I like the game play in the original nes better then the two remakes but I do enjoy the save feature that was added to the later editions. For convence I tend to play the snes version more frequently as I do not have the time to sit through and complete all 8 worlds in one sitting. Through in save states however (like on my DS or PSP) then its the nes version all the way.
Its a combination of factors nostalgia is one but game play is another significant factor. These classic games are striped down and fun at a very fundamental pick up and play level. So with out cluttering up my entertainment center I try to get retro games playing on as few boxes as possible. Right now I am using my ps3 w the zerogame project to get that fix.
negating aesthetics and considering just functionality; do you have an interest in ps2 back catalog and lack a ps2, do you have a interest in playing legacy consoles e.g snes, genesis, nes, etc on your ps3 (as seen here), do you for-see using of the 60GB's memory card readers and extra 2 usb ports? If the answer is yes to just the first question then you might just be better off with a slim and a used ps2. If your answer is yes just for the second then you can save money buy purchasing a 40GB refurb for about $200. If your answer is yes to all three then a 60GB might be worth the extra cash that they currently sell for.
The only real feature advantage the later generation phats have over the slim is other os support. I for one love the feature as it expands your gaming options in the living room immensely. For instance install Yellow Dog Linux with the Zerogame project you can play numerous game consoles and arcade machines with ease as demoed in this video. The slim conversly runs cooler and has an internal HD audio decoder.
I will wait for the disk version to comedown to around $20 then I'll purchase it. I'll add it to my half.com wish list.
Why exclude half the series. I vote Shadow from Final Fantasy VI
This one
Mirrors Edge & Heavenly Sword are both very short games.
