Eh er what?  Did I just cross a dimensional rift and the whole nature of existence turn in on itself?

I can't wait for downloaded content to take over so both die.  I think they should be spanked for not agreeing on a universal format.

You could say the same thing about most fiction of any kind.  Someone somewhere has written something similar to everything else out there.  As long as you stick to the very general as you have done anyway.

Very little beyond your surface comparison is similar though.  So it's not really a rip off.

If you want to you could take every episode of Star Trek and say they ripped off their ideas from the Bible.  If you wanted to, you could... but you'd be an idiot.

I was bitter about rumble leaving when I first heard about it.  It's one of the reasons I'm not eager to run out and get a PS3.  I will probably pick one up eventually, when the content gives me a reason to, but it's always going to leave a sour taste in my mouth that rumble was taken out because Sony couldn't settle a lawsuit.

wrote..some lame drivel about ancient arcade games on XBLAloco145

If those are your first choice of games to buy on XBLA, then there's something wrong with your taste in games and you need an intervention.

XBLA is great and none of us would hype the games you mention as a good example of the experience.

[QUOTE="Tylendal"]People fail to understand that the Wii is a major step forward, and are just focused on the graphics output, which cannot get much better.Jandurin

Your kidding right?  The rate at which graphics improve is increasing, not slowing down.  So "cannot get much better" is a poor observation.  Saying what you've said must mean you are so impressed by what exists now, that you can't imagine it getting better.  But guess what?  It's going to.

Regardless, whether graphics are getting better... They've already gotten good enough. We can see as much facial expression as needed... We can see details in monsters, whatever. What more do we really need? Nose hairs?

Ah see, we could devote hours to this one, but let me be brief.  Entertainment has always been enhanced by spectacle.  Or for a more modern term "wow factor."  From the ancient Greeks getting the best most gory and realistic death sequences possible in their plays by actually killing people (slaves usually), to the massive sets and exotic animals trotted out in the Opera's of the Renaissance we have always craved spectacle.  For a more modern example, who likes crappy or just sufficient special effects in a movie?  I can recall that feeling of just seeing something amazing in a film and walking away with a buzz from the experience.  Graphics matter, and the more impressive the better.  Sure story and character, etc. matter or are more central to the experience (add gameplay, etc. when talking about a game), but wow us with some great graphics and that's all most people can talk about.  Trust me, graphics matter.

You flippantly talk of nose hairs and state facial detail is "good enough" therefore graphics don't need to get better, but you are so short of the mark here.  What about rain falling and pooling realistically and then those pools merging and overflowing drains etc, as we've seen in some DX10 demos.  It doesn't sound impressive, but wait until you SEE it.  What about that dust cloud, or fog you are pushing through billowing around you and reacting to your movement, breath, and gunfire?  Wait until you are looking at a character staring out from the screen and you feel self conscious because it looks so real you wonder if he is really seeing you.  These are just minor examples, but let's just think through the history of video games here.  Who in their right minds would be excited about the graphics in a game that came out 4 years ago?  Now realize that 4 years from now you will be wondering how anyone could have thought the graphics you are so impressed with now would have been good enough forever.

So some people suck at reading.  If you read the article in full, the analyst sounds much less sure than it seems in the first couple of paragraphs.  Declaring victory for the PS3 now based on this analysis would be premature.
