That's true, but there have been calls recently for the change in ratings over mod content

JP_Russell

Psshhh. That'll never fly. Rating a game based on mod content that may or may not be made for it is no different from rating a game based on online interaction that may or may not happen, which the ESRB does not do. Any game can have explicit content modded into it. ANY game.

The ESRB don't do that...but they aren't the only game certifiers in the world now are they...like my very own country's....the BBFC. Nobody says they wont try.

That's true, but there have been calls recently for the change in ratings over mod content - San Andreas was just an example, it might be feasible that crysis is the start of all this if the mod apparently got banned.

[QUOTE="Grantelicious"]Any game with a SDK.

I hate how you can't pickup dead bodies :( Atleast in Garry's mod you'd be able to.JP_Russell

I'm sure someone will make a mod eventually that makes ragdolls able to be interacted with by you. Or has that already been done? Anyone know?

It was done but the mod just vanished

It got banned

pretty dumb if you ask me i mean it's German law so why should it effect me lol.

Wait, wait, wait... Wait... Banned? How does a mod get banned? I thought mods weren't bound by any laws other than stuff like copyright infringement? I don't understand. People put nude mods and gore mods out there all the time for other games and there's nothing anyone is even allowed to do about it, so how has anyone banned a mod that enables human corpse ragdoll interaction with the player character? German laws, shmerman laws, the internet isn't bound by them. Seriously, how did this happen? Anyone know the details?

I predict it actually may have been done to do with ratings. Just like San Andreas got re-rated after the hot coffee and I think another game was re-rated to account for user content recently. The act of interfering with already dead people probably brings in the category of gratification of violence or sadism etc. Which could be enough to take the game up a level.

Failing that, I dont know.

ya, it takes so long through the conventional auto method. I wish they offered a 1.0-to-current-version manual patch, but I thiink they update the game so frequently it just isnt practical.

Fun game, though, I just reinstalled it and Iam having a blast. I dont know why but I didnt enjoy it much the first time. Also, to Jan 31, if you sign up for 3-month subscription, its only 9.99 per month for as long as you keep it active. Not a bad deal in the long run.

You mean £9.99 or $9.99? Cos in the UK its only £8.99 per month anyway

9.99 USD. 9.99 pounds is like 20 USD I dont think I Would ever pay that much lol. Im sure they have a similiar offer for UK citezans, though, as its a "christmas/holiday" special.

yeah the exchange is floating at 1.9 to 2 USD to the pound at the minute, of course, it isnt much to us because...well...we're still only paying £8.99 per month (about 18 USD atm) in our own currency, if it was being converted during payment then it would matter....I think.

I hate to say it but not making a pc version wont put a huge dent on sales. They could easily sell 1.5 million copies on 360. They'd be lucky to get 250k on pc.

I bet Halo 3 outsold all the pc action games of 2007 put together.

gtarmanrob

i have to agree. console games, especially games like this with its advanced technology and features, will nearly always outsell its PC counter-part, especially when its released first. the main reason being, most new PC games are too demanding for the common user. sure the game will sell on for a longer period of time, but even then it wont always add up, since most PC gamers would have moved on from then. it is rare that 12 months after a game is realeased, it will go on to sell a million copies just coz most users have upgraded their PC's.

and besides, as awesome as this game is gonna be, would you, as avid PC gamers, be willing to settle for second best and play a ported copy? you know porting sucks like 90% of the time. im getting this for PS3 for the graphics, and the Nintendo Wii coz its supposed to have lightsaber duels with the Wii-Mote. its all about marketing and money, they dont care about die hard fans.

If this case has holds any ground then its enough evidence to say that, perhaps, for a few years now whilst everyone catches up, our devs should stop making graphics and focus on making games. It is also pretty unlikely (seeing as we've unlocked nowhere near the full potential of the 360 or PS3) that consoles will do any overtaking, so it could be a safe and profitable (lower graphics costs) solution.

Another thing is, that once the main costs of developing the game are done with, it wouldnt cost much for them to convert it to run on PC (they've got to be using some common coding to get it on 5 other consoles at the same time - so why not PC? I mean, its developed on a PC for gods sake) and ship it out on PC. They would still make a large profit, especially as its a SW game. This would end up giving them more leeway for future projects. Even if people arent as into PC gaming as they used to be (I hate it when people say its dying - Its not), people would buy a SW title of this calibre by the shedload - and providing they dont sign up to run with GFWL (I forget if its gonna have MP or not) keeping a free multiplayer server browser - they'll make a killing.

Does anyone else thing LucasArts are shooting themselves not only in the foot, but in the head by not bringing this to PC?

I mean, the Jedi Knight series was a brilliant success on the PC and some of the best multiplayer I personally have ever had, it also had a wonderful mod community. In fact, almost every star wars game to hit the PC has blown the roof off, so why abandon it now?

Ive got no doubt that SWtFU will improve on every aspect of JK 2/3 (I know its not the same game, but the concept is undeniably similar), so why are they not bringing it to the PC where it can flower and flourish in the same way?

Does anyone know?

Ive just reinstalled it from the disc, and Ive tried to use some of the standalone patches (like applying the book 10 patch), but the client still updates the same files just with preloaded data instead.

How does the update system actually work - seeing as it actually has to update/download about three things. And are the patch files all inclusive of the patches before them?

So, whats the most efficient way?
