Angry blog

This is my form of anger management.

I'm having problems with my laptop, this time firefox isn't running properly and it's now running slow. Useless piece of f@#£ing, s@#t! I just slammed my hand on it because it was trying what little patience I had left.

They don't make laptops like they used to.

At least I'll be looking forward to driving to Aber tomorrow, for a lecture and then meeting some frieds to catch up on gossips. I can test out those copied audio CDs in the car along the way.

Quite a difference.

I bought Tomb Raider: The Greatest Raids the other day. It's basically a DVD of nearly all the old Tomb Raider games, from one to Last Revelations. It installs well at least but I have to say that the moment I decided to play TR1 was a surprise. The screen suddenly showed that old DOS feature before going straight to the movie bit.

Considering that the first TR game that I actually played was TR: Underworld, I have to say that the old ones really looked like c@#p. Unsurprisingly, the graphics were terrible; but you have to put yourslef in my shoes. I never did own a PS1 back then and I never played any of the Core Design games, and so the only TR games that I actually did play was those by Crystal Dynamics. I think I did see my god-brother play TR2 on his PS1 but since I only watched him play (and quite a spectacular Lara-cide) it still counts as never played.

Nowadays games have the most advanced graphics and the most advanced programs to create such quality. It wasn't much for me to say I prefer the newer graphics than the older ones. It's like playing Wind Waker first before Ocarina of Time, of course I'd find the WW better than OoT, because I saw quality graphics first.

To the original fans of the old TR games, sorry, it now looks c@#p.

That's a bit of a fright.

I was innocently going about my usual "studying" on my PC. I was about to put my Leaves' Eyes CD into the disc drive, when all of a sudden, the drive pulled a mischief. Probably didn't help by the fact that it's 6 years old. The thing wouldn't eject properly, then it still runs my Beyond Divinity disc. It then pops out with the disc spinning furiously.

Call me paranoid, but I just placed an order for a new DVDRW drive. Not that I care about that particular PC game, but I care immensely for my music CDs. I fear it would destroy the quality.

And just when I was starting to get fired up...

After waking up very early in the morning just to go to one lecture, I have to say that the journey was rather tiresome. Considering that I'm resitting final year and so 1st semester was just resitting one module, consisting of just one lecture a week. Why a tiresome journey? It's not that I'm lazy for saying it, I do have to drive up to the Uni which happens to be almost two hours drive from home.

Anyway, it was supposed to be an angry blog, there were some old fogeys driving ridiculously slow on national speed roads. I happened to notice a sign stating there were a total of 92 (or was it 94?) casualties in the collective years (I forgot when) on that particular B-road. I thought: "your the reason why there were casualties in the first place! Rrraaarrr!!!! Do your driving test again!"

Surprisingly, today's lecture was short, only half an hour. I guess it wasn't a wasted trip in the end. I managed to find a free parking spot, though I had to walk up the hill to get to uni. As I walked back down to my car, along the way I happened to stop by Andy's Records. There was a particular album box set that had caught my attention back in June, before the end of uni term.

Leaves' Eyes. At that time I never heard of them, but ever since Download 2009, my need for Metal has grown to the extent that I wanted to know more of the symphonic power metal genre. That was when I saw Leaves' Eyes on a torrent. Yeah I know I admit I did something wrong... If it wasn't for that I wouldn't have taken an interest in buying CDs in the first place. I did download their single called My Destiny and I loved it, so I preordered their latest album: NJORD. Absolutely brilliant, loved every single songs on it, and made it worth forking my hard earned cash for it too. So anyway...

I had a browse around, I saw Tiamat's Ltd album but thought tempting. I thought that there was no chance of that particular album would still be there after so many months has passed. Asked the bloke if he had it on store, at first he said no, but suddenly remembered there was one. He had a look at the display area. To my surprise and great delight, it was still there! Leaves' Eyes: We Came With The Northern Winds - En Saga I Belgia. I love that guy, he has made my day! Although in my mind I could have just kissed him, but in reality I thought, NO.

And so my journey back home was a lovely trip, guess who I was listening to on my way back. If anyone is reading this, I'd check out the band.

Bye, bye 360!

This morning, UPS has picked up my 360. It is now on its way to Silicon Heaven. Sorry I mean to the Microsoft Repair Centre somewhere in Germany. I should be grateful that it's on its way there, considering Germany is home to the best beers in the world and the most reliable cars too. I mean, what could go... no I won't jinx it.

Pixar's UP!

I've just seen Up in Vue cinema down in Swansea with my friend Jon. It was fantastic! One of the best movies I have seen from Pixar. It was fun to watch in 3D too. It also made me cry in some scenes. Overall, two thumbs up! Five out of Five!

V is for Victory!

I have just completed Super Robot Taisen J on GBA. Well actually again. That was my second playthrough with another robot. Now I', playing it again only with a third robot in the original character choices. Since the first two were what's called "Real Robots" think of Gundam series; the final one is the "Super Robot" think Mazinger.

So far, damn I missed the first robot I chose. That was a bomb! Long-range sniper, that's my preferable mode of play in whatever video games, be it Halo or Saints Row 2. Now the super robot is, well... a lump of metal that can move. The only problem is that it's such a huge lump of metal that I'm targetted everytime. Yeah, big moving target.I have allies and they're in worse shape, but why me?

Pfff... fanboys.

Why is it that in every thread, forums, news by editors, that there's always those fanboys?

It's hilarious!

The Contraversial Jack the Ripper Game rumour.

I know it's so far a rumour, but to make a game of Jack the Ripper being an undead hero? That is going to bring controversy.

I mean fair enough, EA make a game set in Victorian London. Fair enough make a story of supernaturals such as demons etc. But to make Jack the Ripper as some sort of hero? No. That's where I draw the line. It's not just some gamers that will find it sick, think about Britain. EA may bring controversy not just among parents, but also politicians, possilby historians and most likely "Ripperologists" those who study "Jack the Ripper". It's not a joke, but I am only pointing out the possibility. I for one do not condone the idea. If it was a fictional character, it would not draw too much unwanted attention.

Yes as far as rumours go, Jack the Ripper was coined when the Scotland Yard had very little clues as to who killed these prostitutes. The name was there, possibly as a red herring to throw police off the scent, there could have been more than one serial killer. It still is a historical legend, a legend where the prostitutes actually were killed inhumanely and had organs removed. In the end the killer or killers were never caught, they got away with their atrocious crime.

Although I have a very dim view of prostitution, but these were helpless and vulnerable women. I don't think that many really do understand that these women hadn't the choice but to do it. They also put themselves in a vulnerable position and for what? Earning a living. Prostitution is the oldest industry since the Roman Era where it is the first ever jobs women were allowed to in a male driven period.

Now, there are still countries in this century where women were still treated far worse than dogs. Here in parts of Britain, some women are treated like slaves. How so? The illegal immigrant women smuggled into Britain under the false hope of having a better life, only to find that they were lied to, by the very people they were promised.

I've gone a little too far off the track, they main point is that serial killers should not be glorified and made heroes. It's fine if video game companies made a fictional character named "Jack the Ripper" with nothing based on the historical legend, other than name. Just tread carefully. Society's duty should give an unwelcoming view of making heroes out of society's monsters. That is solely my opinion even if I am not as open minded as some.

Again I am going off-track but, may I point out that there were other notorious serial killers in Britain too. Some currently imprisoned, serving life. Peter Sutcliffe a.k.a the Yorkshire Ripper killed not only prostitutes but other women of different profession. Myra Hindley and Ian Brady: Moors Murders. Fred and Rosemary West: 25 Cromwell Street or House of Horrors by the media. Harold Shipman. Should game companies make them like heroes too? No, it wouldn't work because all of the were caught and all of them were real, modern events. Even if EA did try, it would only insult victims.

It's alright to make a game based on historical events, but at the end of the day, it should be exercised with common sense.

The shortest game played in my personal history.

I have to say that in the whole 24 years of my miserable existance, I have never thought I would come across one of the worst video game that I have ever played. And the shortest.

I've played quite a few games, when I do have the time and the longest I have taken to finish was Final Fantasy X, at 127 hours total. I thought that Dragon Quest IV had been the shortest at 50 hours. But now I have a new record! At 2 minutes! Hooray!

Guess what? Mercenaries 2: World In Flames.

God I have never played such God-forsaken, awful pile of s@#t that has tested my very patience. The graphics were %@$#!£#. The frame rate was worse no matter how much I tried to change the video options, the gameplay was worse. How the hell could a game like that ran so terribly!? I mean I have an AMD Athlon Phenom X4 Quad-Core processor at 2.2gHz, 2Gb RAM and a Gig graphics card. How is this even remotely possible?

I'm so going to give the instruction manual to my friend. Why? Well it's a long story really, involving a Download Festival, Slipknot coming up in half an hour, a rather large queue on the portaloo, no toilet rolls and a slighly damp newspaper on the ground.
