Past month and 1/2........

Wow.......so it's now a month and a 1/2 since my last entry. So I figured it's time to update......for those that do actually following my ever-so-exciting blogs :P. Anyhow I have probably figured out what the "cold boot" memory issues were on my new system and I think it is very likely to be faulty memory. The two OCZ Reaper triple channel kits seem to be the issue as when I swapped them out for a different set of OCZ memory, the cold boot issues all but disappeared. Also when I tested the Reapers on my 790GX AM3 based system (Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition), I've gotten nothing but memory errors when using Memtest86 v4.10.......and ironically this all occurs on the initial "cold boot". After a shutdown and reboot, memory issues just disappear! So I've already filed a RMA with OCZ and am waiting for a reply.

Outside of system troubleshooting. I did recently purchase Dirt 2 for $19.83 from Wal-Mart ($20.17 after employee discount and taxes). As well as the blu-ray steelcase edition Clash Of The Titans from Future Shop for $29.99 ($33.89 after taxes). I also sometime last month purchased Family Guy Something, Something, Something Darkside on blu-ray for only $10 from Wal-Mart ($11.30 after taxes). I also recently got a Core 2 Duo T7600 Merom based mobile processor off of eBay for my laptop as I was planning on upgrading it along with 2x 2GB of DDR2 memory sodimms. Unfortunately to my dismay.......my i945PM chipset based Asus A8Jm laptop may not be able to support as it seems that Asus did not provide a bios update to support the Merom based CPUs :(. My system did not POST when I installed the new processor, so that sucks unfortunately :?. But I will however continue looking into that and seeing what processor I can possibly use. And if I can't use the processor I purchased, then I guess I'll just re-sell it again. Plus I do plan on replacing the 100GB drive in it with a 320GB soon anyways.

New PC build is up and finally running........

Yup you heard that right! I've finally built/assembled my new Intel i7 Core based rig and it is powered up and running. Albeit I actually had it powered up and running for almost a couple of weeks now! I've installed Windows 7 64bit Enterprise Edition on it as I've got 12GB worth of memory on it as well as a triple SLI setup of 3x BFG 8800 GTXs (which I've had for a while now) and that's all being booted off of a Corsair P128 SSD. Although I've had "cold boot" memory issues (system only reads 6 of 12GB of memory on initial booting), hopefully I've resolved that earlier tonight after reseating the CPU and bending back one of the socket contact pins in place. Anyhow I will post pics of my new PC most likely on my next blog entry. Other then that in regards to new things bought, I did get Empire: Total War late last month for $9.83 at Wal-Mart (was $10 exactly after employee discount and taxes), Alice In Wonderland Blu-Ray combo pack (with digital copy and standard edition DVD) for $31.93 also at Wal-Mart ($36.08 after taxes) and Mastercraft Torque Wrench (1/2 drive) for $99.99 ($112.99 after taxes). Recently I also purchased DayBreakers on Blu-Ray off of eBay for $18.50 (including shipping charges) as well as an AMD Phenom II X4 965 Black Edition CPU for a total of $160 Cdn. I also bought an OCZ PC3-12800 Gold 4GB dual channel kit for $114.99 ($129.94 after taxes) from Infonec Computers. Reason for those hardware purchases is because my 939 socket based Athlon X2 mobo went to hell, so I'm going to replace it soon with an AM3 socket mobo, which I intend on purchasing online also off of eBay. Anyways......whoa I didn't realise that that was quite a bit happening in about a months time!

Quick recap of new stuff from the past month........

Well another long time since my last entry, but I doubt many read these blogs of mines much anyways. In the last month, I did pick up Just Cause from Future Shop for $9.95 ($11.25 after taxes) and Space Rangers 2: Reboot expansion pack from Wal-Mart for $4.83 (would have been about $4.92 after employee discount and taxes). I also bought the Epson Workforce 610 earlier last month as the next replacement for my EVER aging and ancient scanner. In fact I also plan on giving my Canon i960 and moving it to my mom's room thanks in part to the Workforce 610's multi-function capabilities. That hardware set me back $175.19 (after taxes and environmental disposal fee). Yesterday I received Where The Wild Things Are Blu-Ray movie in the mail after winning it last week on eBay. This Blu-Ray version like some recently released movies contains both the Blu-Ray, Std DVD and digital version of the movie all in the same package. Hence the reason I choose this over the standalone DVD version. Paid $20.63 for the movie and shipping. And lastly I plan on getting a new set of wheels for my ride by weekend's end. Here is the link to the Enkei T-Fork rims which I will very much most likely will be getting off of eBay soon.

Some new stuff in the past month.......

Whew!! Been a while since my last post on my blog, but this will be brief. As I've mostly been busy the last month between my PT and FT contract job. Anyhow earlier tonight I picked up Red Faction: Guerrilla and the Dragon Age: Origins official game guide for $19.83 each at Wal-Mart. Total for both came to $38.90 Cdn after employee discount and taxes. Also in late January I purchased the DVD 9 for $21.69, although I had a $14.95 Amex rebate which brought the personal cost down to around $9.56 after said taxes. Anyhow that's just about all for now. And for those wondering, yes I do gotta get a move on with getting that new PC of mines assembled!

New software in the last week.......

Last weekend I picked up the Fallout 3 Add-On pack (which includes The Pitt and Operation: Anchorage) at Wal-Mart for $24.96 (was $25.38 after employee discount and taxes). And earlier tonight I got the OEM single-license version of Norton Anti-Virus 2010 from Canada Computers for $19.99 ($22.59 after taxes) and Norton Utilities 14.5 (which is the latest version) from Wal-Mart for $44 ($44.75 after employee discount and taxes). Got them as I will need them after when I install Windows 7 64-bit edition after assembling my new PC, as many anti-virus and utility software from the previous year either don't support Windows 7 or might not be fully compatible.......especially with a 64-bit edition!

Let the assembly begin!!!

First off Happy B-lated New Years all! Just right around New Years Eve I purchased my Blu-Ray burner for $179.99 Cdn ($203.75 after surcharges and taxes). Now that I have all the parts that I need to build my PC, it's pretty much time to start the build. Anyhow here's a pic of all the parts that will pretty much make up my PC.

My PC parts!

X-Mas and Boxing Day aftermath.........

Now that Christmas and Boxing Day have passed, I'll update on new stuff I have picked up and just received. On X-Mas Eve I purchased online from Future Shop as part of their Boxing Day sale thing a 24' HP LCD Monitor (HP L2445m) for my new PC build (came to a total of around $284 and change). I also purchased a MSI laptop for my dad (my dad will pay me back for it once I get the bill) alongside with it. Here are what the specs look like (except that the one I got has a 500GB HD). I have just received the two mentioned items earlier on, as I type this. On the same night I placed that order, I also purchased from TigerDirect an Ultra Chilltec heatsink kit and floppy disk/card reader combo drive for $94.97 and $26.87 respectively. Total was $137.80 Cdn after taxes. Now onto the movie/DVD/Blu-Ray end of things. I purchased Family Guy volume 7, Monsters vs. Aliens and Underworld: Rise Of The Lycans for $14.97 (the first two DVDs) and $12.50. And yes you heard it right, for the first time EVER I have purchased some Blu-Ray movies! For $14.97 each, I purchased Ice Age: Dawn Of The Dinosaurs, Night At The Museum: Battle Of The Smithsonian and X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Although Ice Age: Dotd and Night At the Museum each included the standard DVD versions in the package, which is why I am slowly but surely gonna eventually start collecting Blu-Ray movies. And besides sooner or later........I WILL be including a Blu-Ray burner on my new system. So clearly either way you look at it, the Blu-Rays are becoming the much BETTER deals.

Received my Corsair P128 SSD and more new loot.........

Yesterday late afternoon I received my Corsair P128 SSD via UPS just as I was about to head out to work for the evening. Now that I have received it.....my new PC build can soon begin. Although there are a few more things I wish to get (like a Blu-Ray burner, floppy disk/card reader combo and new LCD monitor), I can now or soon begin to assemble it. Other things which I picked up earlier tonight after work were District 9 2-Disc Edition from Wal-Mart which apparently includes a bonus disc, plus a District 9 Privacy Door Sign. That was $25.83. I also picked up a few PC games. I got Tom Clancy's HAWX for $9.97 and Dawn Of Discovery for $9.83 Cdn. Plus I picked up a DVD shelf (although a smaller one then the last one I got) for $33.98. In total I spent $80.96 after employee discount and taxes.

Most recent developments........

Been a while since I've updated. Anyhow the new DVDs I most recently picked up are Dick Tracy for $5.99 ($6.77 after taxes) from Future Shop and Harry Potter And The Half-Blood Prince 2-disc Special Edition and Land Of The Lost from Wal-Mart for $28.83 and 14.83 respectively (total was $44.39 for employee discount and taxes). I also a couple of weeks or so ago downloaded all of the FIRST 100 copies of Computer Gaming World magazine in PDF format from Computer Gaming World Museum. All I got to say is that it sure is nice to have some nostalgic material/info on OLD PC games! Being a former CGW collector/reader (before it was discontinued with the end of Games For Windows magazine)......it was sure nice to be able to get those 100 first copies. And finally........last night I placed an order online from BestDirect.ca for my first EVER Sold State Drive. I ordered a Corsair P128 and this drive if you haven't guessed it, will be for my soon-to-be new system build (based on an Intel i7 920).
