[QUOTE="burpysmurph"]That is pathetic. This is why I hate modern pop/rock music. It's not about the music, it's about the money and the ego.superheromonkey
It is about artistic integrity. When the melody and rhythm sections are near identical to someone elses before you, give them credit. If someone painted something identical to the mona lisa in a different color it would not make it theirs. Satch probably does not care about the money as much as that.

eh, that depends.

This piece of art was created by Marcel Duchamp. It is his. Not Leonardo Da Vinci's.

anyway... the songs don't sound that similar. It's just a similar chord progression and about 7 similar notes. It's really not that ridiculous to think it was a coincidence.

[QUOTE="gobo212"]I don't think I have listened to a single album that has come out this year.DigitalExile

In all honesty, you´re probably not really missing out on much anyways :P

I know I'm not. Mainstream music rarely plays anything I like, so I sure as hell wouldn't pay for it. Then the stuff I do like is just repeats of old songs, or remixes or something of that sort (plus it all "sounds the same anyway").

huh? you know... there are alternatives to mainstream music.

I think this has been a great year for music.

As the year is coming to a close, i thought I'd create this thread. If it has already been done, then maybe a mod could close it.

I think it's been a pretty good year for music, personally. Standouts for me were...

A Silver Mt. Zion - 13 Blues for Thirteen Moons

The New Year - The New Year

Fleet Foxes - Fleet Foxes

Why? - Alopecia

Deerhunter - Microcastle

Sun Kil Moon- April

She & Him - Volume One

Calexico - Carried to Dust

Bonnie "Prince" Billy - Lie Down in the Light

...my favourite album of 08 is definitely the Fleet Foxes debut though. Post away!

Uhmmm, not really, I'm not a huge fan of the Postal Service (or Death Cab for that matter). Dntel, on the other hand, is awesome.

The Beatles weren't the first narcissistic musicians.burpysmurph

This is true. Go back to the 40's or 50's. When exactly did musical acts start adopting megalomaniacal abstract names to collectively call/refer to themselves?

Are you being serious? You don't think there were narcissistic musicians in the Classical or Romantic periods? If true, then you simply don't know enough about music history.

I'm also wondering what Beatles songs you've actually listened... "a self-proclaimed therapy session". I found it hilarious that you criticised other people's words for being "hollow".

Has anyone seen Scum?

I saw it when I was about 14 and no film has shocked me as much as it did. I haven't seen it since, so perhaps it's not as bad as I remember.

Old Music

New Music

works both ways, see?

People only remember the good music and forget the crap. The majority of mainstream music sucks today, but if you dig a little deeper you're bound to find something you like.

joshrocks2245

Well i think both of those songs are terrible.
I seriously dislike most new music, it's just not good.
Even if i like some new music a little bit, i still think it's not that great at all.

Seriously? You don't like the Fleet Foxes song?! Since you seem to think that most new music is "just not good", perhaps you could pin down what's wrong with it.

I love lots of old music, I just happen to think that there is as much good music now as there was decades ago.

Out of curiosity, what bands do you listen to?

Well i like Metallica, Black Sabbath, Motorhead, AC/DC, Pink Floyd, Motley Crue, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Blue Oyster Cult, The Doors, Billy Idol, Rush..
I won't list all the bands though, but those are the old ones i listen to.
I do listen to some new music too, even if i like the old music better..
Cradle of filth, Lamb of god, Ra, Turbonegro, Cky.

Apart from Black Sabbath, Pink Floyd and the Doors all the bands you listed are terrible. In my opinion. That's all it is. An opinion. In your previous posts, it actually seemed like you were stating your opinion as fact.

Like I say, dig a little deeper and you'll find something you like. Although I dislike Metal, I'm sure there are plenty of less-well-known Metal bands around today that you'd like if you actually looked for them.
