I wrote this up on the PS3 forum, and thought it perfectly demonstrated my views on the system. Hate to quote myself, but here goes:
"Look, here's the thing, okay? I'm willing to pay for a $600 system. There are many, many people on this forum who are willing to pay $600. But that's because we're the hardcore group. The majority of consumers don't care enough to come on these forums, and those are the people who will look at it this way: GTA4 on $400 system, GTA4 on $600 system. That's it. They won't care about the Blu-ray player, because they won't know what the hell one is. They won't care about the stupid Cell processor, because that will be way out of their league. The housewives buying a present for their kids will look at the Wii and go, "Hey, that one's a third the price of the bigger one." Most people are barely willing to drop $600 for necessities, much less a freaking video game system. My main point is simply that Sony, by putting in equipment that's not entirely necessary at this stage of the industry, has severely endangered themselves.
Also, this stuff is extremely expensive to make. If Sony is in second place in this generation, they lose. If they're in first, they still take a major hit. Sony has put itself in so much trouble by sticking in this stuff that's not really necessary. And it doesn't help that people are reacting to the price. Now, talking about PlayStation in my high school will result in cries of its price from various people in the room. Sony is in danger, and that is my main issue with the PS3. "
