feel sorry for the people that were about to retire. This mess must have screwed up their plans big time. These people must have been relieved that Social Security wasn't privatized (but that ship is sinking anyways).kruesader
Way to make them feel better and then take it all away at the end. haha.

Indeed. Throwing money at a house on fire, in an attempt to put it out, is not a good or rational idea. Yet it's what so many are proposing. Lockedge
I like the quote and it describes the current situation well. But you do forget that stupidity is rational. It just looks irrational to those that know it's stupid. That's the whole point.

The governement is the worst of all, and honestly people need to stop paying taxes because thats the only way the tyrant will ever learn its lesson.unholy_basic
Good luck with that let me know how it goes.

PS: Btw, do they still have interenet access in jail? Keep those posts coming will ya?

The solution? Let it collapse and rebuild from the ashes. Bailouts and devaluing of currency only delays the inevitable.

Madoff's ponzi scheme didn't help things.

And what type of government do you think will rise from the ashes?

overthink everything.

Gotta be able to turn it on and off. Think about it like the kids having fun on the dance floor vs. the people standing outside analyzing what's going on...never learning the social skills or comfortability necessary to just be loose and have fun.Dreams-Visions

I consider myself an intellectual. I tend to be less happy than others because I dwell a lot on how society is flawed in so many ways, and that it's going to be insanely difficult to fix it up.aliblabla2007
It would be worse if you knew many of these solutions.Listen to DreamVision and just learn to Turn It Off.

this is really more cultural backlash more than anything, in japan the more smarter you are the better you are treated.... they tend to promote education than extracurricular activity after school (sports, etc.)sunnystarz
The smarter you are the better you are treated that sounds like a foreign concept to me. You are right that's not America. It hasn't been for a long time.

ps: *cough cough* Bailout Nation anyone? I knew I should've invested in all the crappy companies supported by people that don't know what they're doing! Now idiots get the girls and the money. haha.

What needs to happen is a switch from fiat money, to a hard asset standard. Anything of value can be represented by paper. But paper its self shouldnt have value that exceeds its self. Thats the essence of our economic woes. Its really terrible, because its not just the United States thats effected by this.UNHOLY_basic
If a vase is cracked you can't just fix it by replacing some of the dirt inside the vase.

Ps: You do seem smarter than most on the subject though, out of curiosity do you study/teach it?

Studies have shown that people with a higher intellect are more likely to be depressed, commit suicide, etc. Why is it like that? whereismycouch

Do you have a source or a linky to these studies?

Most likely because intelligence is often isolating, and humans are social creatures.Big_player

I guess we could get into what it means to be intelligent.Obviously there is social, book, and creative intelligence.I presume you mean exclusive book intelligence over social intelligence.

Ignorance is bliss. pop_tawt_land

It doesn't take much to keep a fool content?SolidSnake35

It is much easier to please a fool because the fool doesn't know what more could be.The smarter individual sees options and possibilities that will never be realized by the fool. This makes the person of dimming intellect much easier to please. If you never knew an iPod existed then I could sell you a cassette tape player for the same price and you would be just as content. The person of advanced knowledge would not be content without the more advanced iPod of which he is aware exists.

Because, if this study really exists, it is because they have to deal with ignorance on a daily basis. vandalvideo
Interesting comment. I'll have to think about that, but it certainly can't help when they discover that their advanced intellect is worth so little. In fact social intelligence is much more important than book or even creative intelligence in a society such as ours. Life isn't fair and maybe many people can't get past that.

Funny, all the studies I'm seeing (Lester, 1993; Lester, 1995; Voracek 2007) show no correlation at all between intelligence and suicide mortality. Voracek (2004) found the best predictors were divorce, age, and unemployed.AirGuitarist87
What age range(s)?

I don't know probably GS, but Gerstmanns site is just starting out give him some time. But keep in mind the sooner he fixes the things you guys complain about the better. Otherwise him and his site might be forgetten with time =(

Btw, I wish Gamespot would tell you why a thread is deleted. I saw a church thread and some other threads which looked like they might be against some polices, but then they delete this hating idiots thread instead. Theres nothing wrong with talking about idiots is there? Anyone know how GS deletes threads or is it just random in practice?

-----------------

btw, I'll just post it here for the hell of it. Feel free to tell me why this thread is any better or worse than the other threads I've seen in this particular forum...

[Thread Starter]

I can't stand people that make stupid mistakes, don't use common sense, cry over spilled milk, etc. "It makes me so mad!" in the words of Goerge Castanza. I literally can't take it. I lose it now when people do stupid things. I'm not talking about not understanding a math problem. If someone genuinly can't solve something it's not their fault. But I can't stand people who just don't use their heads sometimes. Like people who type a paragraph WITH NO ****ING PERIODS. It's just freaking lazy and stupid. And people who ask questions like: "How can I tell if someone is gay by looking at them". That is ****ing borderline mentally-challenged. It makes me so freaking angry. How can people be so dumb. I try to picture them. I can't. I try to rationalize why they're still here and I can't. What happened to good old natural selection. We need it back so badly right now. The number of people who don't use common sense or basic intuition is astounding. I'm done with it now.

Question: Topic title.

zombiefruit

Do I "dislike" idiots? I'd have to say no. First, I would never dislike someone because of their intellect. Second, those that are just "arrogant" idiots, well I guess I've gotten used to those people. They are what they are and sometimes there's little you or I can do.

How can people be so dumb. I try to picture them. I can't. I try to rationalize why they're still here and I can't. What happened to good old natural selection.zombiefruit
There would be three reasons for why natural selection would not weed these people out. First, people that care for others will support these individuals. Usually family members, but also kindly strangers. This is a "positive" reinforcement in society for those whom lack common sense and in some cases mental retardation. Second, would be forced socialism and theft. This is the means by which the "brainless ones" are given forced support. In this case the money is forcefully taken from others to support the brainless or retarded individuals. This can take many forms and is what supports the vast majority of imbeciles and retarded people. Of course the latter explanation works at the expense of the former and further compounds the problem onto itself.

Stocks, over various times. Worst I ever "lost" was begging my broker to put all my money, about $25,000 into Google when you could buy the IPO around $80.00. He wouldn't do it. It's been above $450.00, so you can do the math. Needless to say he's no longer my broker.btaylor2404
Many brokers aren't the brightest, but what compounds the issue is that the great majority of them could care less about your money. Might I suggest you yourself invest rather than using a broker. And if, for example, you have no clue what you're doing then just stay out of the market. Theres no harm in that.
