The Wii's potential is nigh unmatched with its control possibilities...
Let's just hope developers can realize that potential.
Good ideas though - Megaman/Castlevania could both work well. rexCo

I don't think most game developers/publishers match up well with the wii. This is because most don't match up to this "mass" or casual market that the wii is geared at. And if they are unable to grasp the reasons why Nintendo is doing well on the wii then they themselves will be unable to replicate Nintendo's success.

I've just started reading it, but what I find interesting is the definition of the word "casual gamer". I have always used this synonymously with a person that doesn't game much, if at all. Therefore I refer to the masses as casual and/or potential casual gamers.

Wikopedia: "Casual gamer is an undefined term used to describe a type of video game player whose time or interest in playing games is limited compared with a hardcore gamer." The definition goes on to say that there are those whom define "casual gamers" as gamers interested in only a certain type of game and that time isn't even a factor. Why people in the industry use that definition I don't know. But I do have to agree that that definition is worthless.

The point of making games is to reach the masses and to say that you're making games not geared towards that market, what I call the casual market, is just dumb. And to say the opposite, that your games are not geared toward the hardcore market is also dumb. Every game has the potential to be a blockbuster if it's made right (ie: wow).

It looks like a good read, which I hope to finish later.

Can't we just all agree that all the Final Fantasy games rule??

But if you were to force me to pick a game it would have to be Final Fantasy II (USA numeration). I can't believe when I found out that Golbez was actually my brother! OMFG!! Can you believe it?? I was in shock and awe for days.

Ragnarok1051

That would be Final Fantasy 4 in the U.S as well now.

Thanks, though I'm always going to think of them as FF2 & FF3 .

6. True gaming only exists in the minds of elitists.

Sorry bro.

Buffalo_Soulja

At least I found the correct answer on page 1. That saves me 7+ pages of pointless reading.

I've been playing games since as far back as I can remember, at least going back to the Atari system. I also am considered to be an expert at the games that I play. I have helped change the way some of those games are played, like many other experts before me have. BUT WHO CARES?

I know I don't and I know you shouldn't! None of that matters. I don't care if you're good. I don't care if you've been playing since the first gaming system. I don't care if you buy 200+ games every generation. And I dont care if you work at a game company that makes these games. None of that makes you any better or any more of a gamer than anyone else.

A "true" gamer is a joke. It's elitist. Having some guidelines or rules that someone must follow to be a true gamer is a sad attempt to further distinguish yourselves. Everyone likes to feel special but to say you meet some sorry set of guidelines that makes you a true gamer or a 1337 is garbage. And we all know people will make and change those guidelines to make sure they themselves are included. Whether you are a "noob" (classical definition: new player) or a decent player that hacks (a person disguised as an expert) or any number of situations -- you will always consider yourself to be this made up image of a "true" gamer.

A "gamer" is someone that loves to play games. It's that simple. And in that respect we are all equal.

most of the games on the VC are crap... but they do have some good ones (the donkey kong countrys, super mario world, super mario bros 3)... but i'm still waiting for DK64 and SNES mario kart... 2 great games that you would have thought would be out already. i'm not going to 'strike'... but those are the only 2 games i really want that i don't have, so i won't download anything until they are out.

also, has anyone heard what games are out tomorrow?

bceagles358

I know Nintendo isn't big on online like MS is, but I have to ask if Nintendo is adding any functions like online to games like SNES mario kart. That would be off the hook!

Otherwise I still have my trusty snes and the damn thing still works too! : )

Thanks for the good read Harlock. Nintendo really knows what they are doing when it comes to capturing the casual market. I like many of their business models.

ps: I'd be curious to know their business model for DLC if anyone knows or has a linky.
