I've just started reading it, but what I find interesting is the definition of the word "casual gamer". I have always used this synonymously with a person that doesn't game much, if at all. Therefore I refer to the masses as casual and/or potential casual gamers.
Wikopedia: "Casual gamer is an undefined term used to describe a type of video game player whose time or interest in playing games is limited compared with a hardcore gamer." The definition goes on to say that there are those whom define "casual gamers" as gamers interested in only a certain type of game and that time isn't even a factor. Why people in the industry use that definition I don't know. But I do have to agree that that definition is worthless.
The point of making games is to reach the masses and to say that you're making games not geared towards that market, what I call the casual market, is just dumb. And to say the opposite, that your games are not geared toward the hardcore market is also dumb. Every game has the potential to be a blockbuster if it's made right (ie: wow).
It looks like a good read, which I hope to finish later.
