The article above says it all.
Basically, a hacker got pwned at one of the biggest gaming conventions for -wait for it-...stealing a game there.
This suspect saw a booth for Breach, Atomic Games' new shooter, and thought to himself 'this game looks pretty cool. I'm gonna steal it'. Did he also realize he had no inner monologue (ergo people heard him out loud) and was obsessive-compulsive enough to repeat it multiple times, even in front of the personnel at the booth?
So he looks around and he says, 'Hey there's an ethernet cord here at the Breach booth. Since my wi-fi isn't working, I am sure they won't mind if I do this without permission'. He plugs in with his laptop and supposedly accesses 'Xbox Neighborhood'. By coincidence, he sees that Breach was magically installing itself onto his machine. 14 MBs later, one of the vile Breach attendants points to him and goes 'Not so fast!' The hacker retorts with a cackle and a 'Catch Me If You Can'...!
Taking off into the crowd, he used the little teachings he had earned from Ezio Auditore Di Firenze from Assassin's Creed 2. Alas, even the real life security is intuitive enough to discern him from the crowd. Closing in, he reaches for his hidden blade...only to realize this is real life. And he utters a 'Blast!'
Taken into custody, the man states that 'I didn't steal the code. I was just using the ethernet cable to access XboxNeighborhood because the wi-fi was down'. So, the burly cop points his grease-ridden finger to the hacker's laptop and goes 'then how did this 14 MBs of game code end up on your machine?' 'Um...by magic?'
Stating on Xbox Live communications of his endeavor, he also elaborated on how those evil police had confiscated all of his precious hacked equipment: his modded Xbox 360, which had been locked down from Xbox Live for 'playing a copy of Forza 3 early'...On that note, he asks Stephen Toulouse, the Director of Policy and Enforcement of Xbox Live, at his boothat PAX Eastif he could have his gamertag unbanned for this instance. Toulouse merely replied that no early copies of games on Xbox Live are ban-worthy. Only those with pirated copies on Xbox Live are ban-worthy...he also stated his modded DS, modded PSP, modded XMB3, and both of his laptops were confiscated.
Four hours with the po-po, he bargains his life for many. 'I can get you the names of the inner circle of hackers I am acquainted with,' he states. 'Bigger fish than I am...what do you think?'
Apparently, the fact they ripped him off for every piece of illegally modified gaming equipment he owned was compensation enough for putting PAX East through this escapade.
Anyway, that is my story folks. I also hit Level 21 on GS.
I also bought Resident Evil 5: Gold Edition and both Penny Arcade downloads on the PSN. All of them have been quite enjoyable. :-)
Until next time, lemme know how you enjoyed my little tale.
UPDATE: The suspect was ID'd as James D May, 20 year old hacker...AND HE'S A FREAKING DELAWAREAN LIKE I AM! He got called to appear in Boston Municipal Court this morning. He didn't show up. So now, the guy's been issued an arrest warrant...wow.
UPDATE 2: James D May surrendered today. I guess he got so withdrawn on the run that he couldn't take it anymore. I think when he walked into the police station and asked if he could have his game consoles back, seeing the large police force made himsay 'I surrender...I can't fight you off without a BFG...'
