Fantasy Football - Week 6

What an exciting week six here at the LSU CS league of fantasy football as the Invaders won their second straight game, demolishing the Irrelevents by 25 points in a 147-122 win to improve to a 2-4 record this season.

Head coach of the Invaders, Dale Kulas has used all the moves allowed already into week six. When questioned about this Dale had to say this, "I'm all about big risks, I suffered a lot of injuries early in the season and that has a lot to do with it, but I have a good lineup and am looking forward to a lot more wins into the season."

The main stars for the Invaders were their QB's (Favre & Brooks) combining for 42 points, and the Viking's 4th String wonder, Mewelde Moore tallying up 22 points.

The Irrelevents main star was Donald Driver getting a whopping 28 points, and Clayton getting 17 points on Monday Night, but it wasn't enough to overcome the near 40 point deficit they were down by the end of Sunday. Here's a complete stat breakdown:

5 day wrap-up!

Yes, I had an extra long weekend, that was forced by my employers saying I still had 14 personal hours I had to use before November 1 that don't carry over until next year like my vacation hours do. The weekend flew by a bit faster than I expected, but I guess I accomplished a lot. I watched about six flicks or so. I got three of them reviewed in my previous entry. I also typed up a new review, I'm slowly starting to knock out reviews from my own personal collection I bought over the past couple months. First one up, Test Drive: Eve of Destruction . Oddly enough, it got rejected when I tried to get it up on GameFAQs. I believe that's the first review I ever got rejected on there, reason: content. If it had to be anything, it had to be probably one of the sentences I use to describe the announcer in the game, it made it into my final draft on VGpub, so why don't you check out there. I even toned it down and resubmitted it, but it still shows it waiting in the que. Thing that is also puzzling me is that questionable comment I made was about 2/3's into a nearly 1800 word review. How did the mod's catch it when they let a lot of the other 372 word wonders filled with countless spelling and grammatical errors get posted almost daily.

Anywho, on my first day off it was my sister, Ann's 20th B-day. She was still living in Arkansas last year for her last b-day, so I got her a lil more expensive gift in the form of Simpsons 4th DVD set. We all went out to eat at Paradiso, blew another $10 there cuz everyone love's getting their free crappy b-day meal there. After the meal, we saw Cellular at the theater. That was a lot better than I thought, pretty suspensful stuff with lots of action to keep your blood pumping. I think I might get the DVD depending on the amount of extra content they add to it. On Thursday I attended this wine tasting event at a liquor shop with my dad. I tried about 30 different types of wines, wine's not really my thing as I only really liked one, something with the word 'moscotto' in it. My dad loves it as he stocked up for the year, according to him anyways, and got literally two dozen bottles. I also caught the new Dream Job that day, that one dude is nearly a freaking midget. Almost looks like Mr. Coleman himself.

On Friday, Joe and Chris came over and we played that new X-Men Legends game. It's actually pretty addicting, we played it for about 3 hours straight. Game is like a hybrid of Dark Alliance in the X-Men universe, and leveling up your X-Men is a fun process as you learn new powers and whatnot. My only qualm with it is the camera can get a bit faulty at times. After some gaming we watched the Day after Tomorrow. Not too shabby for a Natural Disaster movie. It's right up there with Deep Impact and Twister. On Saturday I went to the UND football game with Jane, Shawn, and Adrian, second one this season so far. They demolished Duluth in a 26-0 shutout. Afterwards Chris and Steve came over and we played a bit more of X-Men Legends for a few more hours. Chris bought the game, but I guess the game isn't memory unit compatible so he can't transfer the save from my Xbox to his memory card so we had no choice but to continue the game at my place. Kind of weird to see a lot of these newer Xbox games skimp out on memory unit support when they dont take up too many blocks as it is on the hard drive.

Sunday was NFL fun...........in mourning another loss for the 49ers. They faced the undefeated Jets so I didn't get my hopes up for them, I started to as they started off with a 14-0 lead. However that lead was quickly demolished after halftime as they were shutout for the rest of the game and lost 22-14. Barlow had a decent day, defenses finally caught onto Eric Johnson being Rattay's main target and double teamed him a lot and limited to only 4 catches for about 25 yards. Went over to Corey's later that night and watched the Vikes beat his Saints in a shootout with the Vikes coming out on top 38-31. I just wonder how the hell do the Vikes continue to stomp when they lose main guys like Bennett, and now Moss. Moss will prolly only be out for 2 weeks, maybe one if that with his pulled hamstring I believe.

Phew, what another long entry.......until next time.

Sports Movie Reviews!!

Mr 3000
This movie suffers from mainstream sponsor overload-syndrome where almost every couple of minutes there was either a logo advertising for Reebok, Mastercard, etc. Bernie Mac did a lot better than I expected in playing the role of the retired ball veteran coming back to earn his place in the hall of fame, but as Mr. Mac says it himself in the movie, a lot of things are quite 'corny' and the movie gets too predictable.

There are a few bright spots, the minority member of the strike team from The Shield is in here, and he does a tremendous job playing the star slugger who is jealous of all the attention the over-the-hill veteran is getting. And the whole last play of the ball game in the movie hits a nerve actually, and serves as a great moment in sports film history.......it actually saves the movie, but once the horrendous aftermath kicks in immediately thereafter you'll forget all about it. Probably worth a rental at most once it hits DVD's. <b>5.5/10</b>

Friday Night Lights

From the hype this movie is getting, it is starting to sound like the Hoosiers of football movies. So I'll treat this just like that. This movie is certainly close as it spends a lot of time focusing on the characters and some of their problems with their fathers, specifically the drunken dad. Unlike Hoosiers, however, this one focuses a lot more on the sport than the outside storylines. The actual football highlights of the show are well done, and right on par with Any Given Sunday. The last game is laid out nicely and provides for some good moments for sport movies, but didn't really captivate me like Hoosiers did. Still though, its a damn good sports film and I'll probably end up buying it on DVD anyways. You should too. 8/10

Wimbledon

First off I'm a big tennis fan, so this little review here will obviously seem a bit biased, so kill me. This movie flys by, before you know it, the over-the-hill tennis player hooks up with the fabulous Kristen Dunst, who plays the hot newcomer particiapting in her first ever Wimbledon tournament. Anywho as luck would have it the two hook up and instantly form a loving relationship, with Dunst helping the fellow (I forget his name) get back in his winning ways and help him proceed up the brackets through the tournament. Now how a hot 20 year old the movie portrays her as falls for a 40 year old veteran is beyond me, but I guess she must dig the older type. If you can get past that, this is still a very enjoyable romance comedy. With great tennis action! The tennis is done well! Never seeing the tennis ball got back and fourth has been so exhilerating. 8.5/10

Fantasy Football - Week 5

Do you believe in miracles? The Invaders win!!!!

After a close contest that whined down into the final seconds of the football weekend, the mighty Dakota Invaders edged out thanks to Brett Favre giving it his all as he got annihilated to lead his team to a victory by just four points over the Baton Rouge Bolts.

The Invaders had a couple faults that could have costed them their fifth straight loss where the team mistakenly started Stephon Davis when he wasn't cleared to start and got no points for the team whatsoever. Also, franchise player Julian Peterson tore his Archillion Tendon in the 1st quarter after only tallying up a meager 3 points. He will lose his spot on the roster as he will be out for the rest of the season.

But for both tough breaks, the Invaders had a couple of lucky ones too. Pro-Bowl calibur tight end, Eric Johnson played through a BROKEN RIB and still managed achieve a career high 13 receptions for over 160 yards and a TD reception to combine for a total of an astounding 29 points. He leads all the tight ends in the NFL in number of receptions with 41.

The Invaders were up by almost 30 points before going into Monday's game with just Bret Favre left to be played and the Titan's Mason & Brown. The Titanic Duo both had all-star days and combined for 38 points, but even though Favre struggled through the loss he still managed to rack up 19 points and give the Invaders a 4 point margin of victory.

Head coach, Dale Kulas was ecstatic celebrating the Invaders first win of the year as he kept assuring the press of the great future he has in mind for the team this season. "We're the most underrated team in the league right now, our victory gave my players the boost in morale they needed. We were always in the top half of the league in scoring each week, it just happened our opponents were also. I still believe we're playoff bound, our guys can do it."

Keep the champagne flowing coach, you deserve it!

Do you believe in miracles!?!? Niners win, Niners win! By-Gawd!

Howdy all. Just wrapping up another weekend. On Friday I went with Corey and Carlos to eat at this new fast food Mexican place called Qdoba, kind of an odd combination of Taco Bell and Subway, but they specialize in huuuge burritos, pretty damn good too. Afterwards did a lil shoppin on Target to blow away a new paycheck....got a couple b-day gifts, and the new Korn greatest hits album for myself. All met up at Carlos's and watched the Twins lose their second game in the best of 5 series against the Yanks. On Saturday helped my dad paint his garage for a few hours as we listened to the Twins blow a 5-1 lead and lost game 5 to knock them out of the playoffs the third year in a row.

Oh yeah, I saw Smackdown, and was surprised as hell to see the new Carlito Cool guy win the US belt from John Cena in his debut match. But I guess it kinda makes sense since he's a heel. I just don't get it that Cena spends damn near 2 months in a best of 5 series with Booker T to win his title back, and when he finally wins it back he only holds it for 2 days before dropping it to Razor Ramon-lite. Maybe the thing will work, only thing that appeals to me about Carlito is his uber-awesome fro that should make Ben Wallace jealous.

After that I met up with Chris and we checked out to see if there was anything else worth buying at Best Buy.....saw Rocky Legends which was tempting, but the developers decided to take out online play at the last minute so now I have no reason to purchase it for $40. Maybe I'll wait for it to drop to $20. Afterwards dropped Chris off and picked up Jarod & Dawn and got another round of Cosmic Bowling going on. We got 4 games in but I didn't do too well with scored of 77, 85, 93, and 98. Dropped them off and headed home and tried to play as many of my new games as possible. Got about a good half hour to an hour each of the following games: NASCAR 2005, TD: Eve of Destruction, NBA 2K5, and Fable. 24/7 is starting to get addicting, and I only got past the part where your town gets burned down in Fable, but it looks like I'm gonna be in for quite an adventure. Browsed online for a while and picked up a couple of things off half.com....the Eddie Guerrero DVD set for only $15 brand new, and ....Boys and Girls...the only teeny bop movie I actually liked until the recent Mean Girls. Its bare bones lack of extras DVD release was going for $7-9 used, but the used VHS was only 75 cents so I got that instead.

Sunday was all about football......after 8 straight losses including the preseason this year, the 49ers finally win one in overtime against the Cards 31-28 in overtime. They came back from 28-12 with only about 5 mins left in the 4th quarter. Wadda comeback, Big Play Rattay threw for over 400 yards, and broke a team record with 38 complete passes, one more than the legendary Joe Montana. Eric Johnson got me a lot of fantasy points as he got 12 catches for over 120 yards and a TD. Unfortunately, Julian Peterson tore his Archilles Tendon and will be out for the rest of the season. About damn time they won! I didn't think they'd make that dramatic of a comeback, but damn what a way to win. The Vikes almost blew a big lead over the Texans, they were ahead 21-0, but the Texans came back and made made the game go into OT at 28 all, but the Vikes held on and Culpepper had one helluva game too....well their offense anyways.

After football, celebrated my father's 64th B-Day with Joe, Ann, Jane, and Shawn. Went to Wild Wings to grab some dinner, and bowled a couple games where I got scores of a weak 77 and an ok 109. Chipped in on a DVD player for my dad, and got him Leathal Weapon 4 on DVD too. That wraps it up for me this weekend, only work 2 days this week before I start a 5 day break? Why 5 days? Because I had 14 Personal Hours I had to use before the beginning of the X-Mas shopping season that starts up in beginning of November. Hopefully I'll be able to catch the T-Wolves preseason game.

hmmm

Heyyyy. Just finished up the work week, another hellacious week that ended up getting the best of me towards the end. I don't know sometimes my mind thinks I have so much to do than I really have to and I just get lost. That's how work was today it seemed like. Done a lot of errands this week, got my topper back on my truck to prepare for winter again, actually got around to cooking again, this time some good 'ol spaghetti.

RAW was a pretty decent this week. As Mr. Keith has mentioned, the new huge-mega Luger/Austin-esque push he is getting is ridiculous and it just doesn't seem right for him at this time. They could have slowly transcended into making him a big player like they did with Bret Hart in his first WWF title run, but oh well....hopefully he'll fade within the coming years, but then again the bookers go nuts for these 3rd generation superstars.

I've been playing a bit of NASCAR 2005 and ESPN NBA 2K5 lately. Mostly the 24/7 mode in NBA as it is much improved over last year, I still prefer the gameplay in 2K3 more over 2K5, but there are still a couple things I like better in it control-wise like the free throw system, IsoMotion, and being able to curve your shots in mid-air at the last moment. They toned down the insane amount of blocks from last years game, but my main gripe is you still can't manually control defensive strafing like you could in 2K3 or last year's Sega College Hoops. The CPU seems to do it at most of the right moments automatically, but there are times when I get fricking pissed when it doesn't happen when I want to and vice versa. NASCAR 2005 I'm finally starting to adapt to after being use to Dirt to Daytona for so long. Cornering requires a lot more precision on your timing for the turns than in DtD, and that Fight to the Top mode kicks all types of butt! I got Fable in the mail on Tuesday, have yet to try it out yet tho, but I think I'll be able to squeeze in a day sometime this weekend.

That's all for now....latez!

Fantasy Football - Week 4

I lose again. This is getting frustrating......this is the fourth straight week where I was in the top 4 (of the 8) teams in our league in scoring, but I still ended up losing and am now 0-4. So yeah, this week I blame my QB's as neither produced really solid performances and only combined for 13 points. Favre prolly could have done better if he wouldn't have got that concussion and taken out of the game. Eric Johnson had a great day for me as I expected and had a career game high 10 catches for 113 yards in one game. Eric Moulds also had a big day for me with 100+ yards receiving and a TD, and Buchanon and Vrabel both chipped in over 10 points each for me on defense, so yay for me. But all that was not enough to beat Corey...he was just too good for me this week. I already set Warner to start for me in place of Brooks, so I have a good feeling for him and Brooks is really starting to disappoint me lately. Here's the stats from the game:

Niners lost again, what else is new?

Another weekend is in the books for me, did a hair more than the usual. On Friday Joey and Steve came over and we hung out for awhile. We went over to Gamestop and I exchanged Star Wars Battlefront (<a href="http://www.vgpub.com/?view=article&article=340"> click here for my review </a>) for $28 store credit....clerk kinda gave me a puzzled look since the game was only 9 days old at the time and I simply told him I made a $50 mistake. I used that with the other store credit I got earlier this week and got NASCAR 2005. Now hopefully that'll qualify me to get the buy 2 easports titles and get one free offer they have going on right now.

Anywho, got back to my place and Steve brought over the new DefJam: Fight for New York game, and we played it for a bit. He showed me how the story mode started and even tho I only got to play 2 matches into it, it looked to be the standout part of the game. The controls felt a bit changed tho from Vendetta, and I can understand that since EA wants to focus this on being a fighting game now instead of a straight up wrestling game. But personally I do not like this change that AKI is being forced into, and I'll prefer Vendetta and No Mercy over it anyday. So I think I'll just pass on purchasing it for the time being, but as a fighting game it is not too shabby. I'm just hoping EA picks up a license to make a TNA wrestling game so we can go back to playing some tried and true AKI wrestling titles. After some DefJam, we played a couple rounds of ESPN NBA 2K5, and by that point I was ready to pass out as I was up for 30 hours straight altering my sleep pattern, yet I still managed to play some more Day of Reckoning and finally complete my Season in it before passing out for good around midnight.

On Saturday I gave my dad a ring to see if he wanted to grab a bite to eat, and after that we checked out a few stores for some gifts he wanted for his upcoming b-day, and just to do some general shopping. I haven't actually done a full blown day of shopping like this since the day I moved into my apartment, and surprisingly it was a bit fun too. First we checked out Target and Dad decided to get a DVD player since he happened to have a $45 gift certificate on him, and yes DVD players are really freaking cheap now, as Target had ones by a generic brand named CyberHome going for $37 regular price. Dad gave me a few good ideas on some new DVD's he can use to watch on it, and I myself got a couple things there like a pair of cargo shorts I wanted that were only $7 on clearence, and a little 100 bulb set of Christmas lights that went for $2. I hung 'em up at my place the other day around my windows so now I can actually say I decoratated my apartment. Huzzah.

We checked out the hardware store next, where I finally got me a new Ice Scraper for my vehicle I was in dire need of. After the hardware store trip, we went back to my place and watched the DVD of Walking Tall I recently picked up. My dad loved the origninal and wanted to see this one, said this one was good, but not as good as the first one. I still think Walking Tall is The Rock's best movie so far. After that visited with my dad for a little while and shot the bull with him for the first time in ages, and then he took off. Spent the rest of the night catching up on some of my many newer titles like the new NASCAR and Burnout 3. Man 'o man have I bought way too many games lately, and I have nowhere near enough time to dedicate to 'em all, and more likely than not I'm going to ignore all of them once Halo 2 arrives in a little over a month.

On Sunday watched football all day. Good to see Warner leading the way for the Giants and getting them off to a solid 3-0 start. Too bad for Favre tho as he suffered a concussion it sounds like. Eagles continue to dominate and blow away all contenders, by this point they look to be unstoppable and an undefeated season actually sounds very probable. TO is leading the NFL with 6 TD receptions, whoo! Before the Saints/Cards game started Corey gave me a call talking about how we were gonna meet up later at Carlos's to watch the 49ers/Rams game on ESPN, but he told me he thought the Saints underestimated the Cards and think they Cards actually have a chance at winning. And boy did he thought right, as the Cardinals whooped the Saints 34-10. Emmit actually ran for over 100 yards for the first time in almost 2 years. Corey must have taken the loss a bit too seriously as he called me in the game's 4th quarter and said he had a big headache, actually due in part cuz of that very game, and said he most likely wont make it over to Carlos's.

Sure enough, Corey didn't make it so I'm gonna give him crap about that, and the fact that it looks like I'm gonna edge him out and get my first win over his team in our fantasy football league. The 49ers/Rams game I was actually anticipating the 49ers to upset the Rams, but the Rams just dominated the 49ers all together in the first half. Marshall Faulk ran all over them and Isaac Bruce had his 4th straight 100 yard game. The Rams were ahead 24-0 at halftime and looked unstoppable. Thankly it didn't remain that way. Midway thru the 3rd quarter was when the 49ers got back into rythm. Turnover problems faulted Rattay's first game back in 3 weeks in the first half, but he did go onto score 2 passing TD's in the second half and had several impressive drives. I wasn't really pissed at the niners today, only when Rattay fumbled early on and on a couple of occasions when Erickson opted not to go for a reachable field goal. They redeemed themselves in the second half, and shut out the Rams to no scoring at all in the second half, but it wasn't enough as they ended up losing by a score of 24-14. Eric Johnson had a great day too, he's my TE in my fantasy team and he had over 100 yards receiving today so yay me! Expect my regular fantasy football update come Tuesday.

Played a couple more rounds of Tiger Woods 2005 against Carlos after the game before heading home. Starting to actually enjoy it now, the rounds progress a little faster than the 2003 version which make it much less boring to play than before. That, and the create-a-golfer kicks serious butt!

Whew.....if you managed to read all that then I salute you....sorry to bore all of you to death, but it's what I do best. Bye for now!

Four Bucks, huzzah!

Hey yo! This looooong work week has finally finished thank God. For about the next month we have gigantic workloads each week, and its more than likely going to get the best of me. Though I felt I did a pretty good job, my boss said he was praising me because I listened to the advice he gave me a couple weeks back. At Target they got things called "Great Team" cards where you write down comments about other team members for going out of their way and doing a good deed for someone else. At work, they post all these on a bulletin board. Most of them are by the dayside team. Some of the ones they got up there are really stretching it for the criteria needed to get up there. Some of them simply say silly things like 'thanks for letting me take my break today' ...uh breaks are mandatory, you are suppose to get them, it gets even better....'thanks for coming into work today' not on thanks for coming into work on your day off, but just for coming in on the day you're scheduled. I swear a lot of people at work are on crack. So what my boss did was he gave us all blank team cards and told us to make up one for ourselves and try to outdo the crap they write on dayside. I wrote, "Thanks for properly stacking your pulls now, we haven't had a pallet of yours collapse in over 30 days now, let's make it 60!" I guess that got a good kick out of everyone at work.

I watched that JBL/Mick Foley debate off WWE.com the other day and was surprisingly impressed with the superstar's knowledge of politics. I know JBL had some background in it and all since he was on CNBC for awhile and wrote his own book too about accounting, but I thought both guys did a tremendous job at debating the issues for the presidential candidates.

I won $4 off the Powerball drawing on Wendesday, I had the powerball and another number, if I did powerplay I could have had $12. I used my $4 on two more powerplay tickets.....here's hoping for $10 :)

I got ESPN NBA 2K5 a couple days ago. There's still two other titles I wanna get but I'm kinda short on funds so I think I'm going to have to resort to charging them. The titles I'm anticipating are NASCAR Chase for the Cup 2005 and Rocky Legends. Sad thing is I prolly won't be getting around to playing them anytime soon as I got billion other games I'm trying to complete simultaneously. Goddam games. I do have a 5 day weekend coming up in a couple weeks, but my coworkers are really trying to persuade me to go out of town on a vacation. They say I need to get away from things, and they're probably right but I have barely any funds to finance one. I can charge it and be forever in debt, but I don't like the sounds of that.

I'm gonna run, time to enjoy another weekend of the Niners blowing yet another game...well they're playing a team with the second to last worst defense in the NFL, so who knows, maybe we'll get lucky.

Fantasy Football - Week 3

Well I got my butt spanked again, can't help it tho when I'm up against Terell Owens and Peyton Manning tho. My main 2 running backs didn't do as well as I expected either, and my last second pickup Aaron Stecker did a great job filling in for Deuce McCallister on the Saints to my surprise. Brandon Lloyd did jack squat for me and I already replaced him with Cedrick WIlson for next week's game. My Invaders are now off to a terrible 0-3 start just like my 49ers. If someone can clue me in on what the asterix means that would be much appreciated....here's the breakdown
