A tribute to Ray Traylor

he wont be serving hard time, thats for sure

I also want to do an entry today about the recent passing away of Ray Traylor, who many of us wrestling fans fondly remember of the Big Boss Man. He passed away last Thursday via a heart attack. So here is a little tribute biography to one of the most memorable figures in professional wrestling.

As certain other friends of mine can attest, he was one of my all-time favorite wrestlers. He was fantastic in his early days in the then-WWF when he came in with good 'ol Slick as his manager, then we he made that babyface turn and became a fan favorite was when he really won me over. I'll never forget his Main Event steel cage matches with Hulk Hogan for the WWF Championship, and the sick superplex he took from the top of the cage from Hogan. One of my other favorite angles he was in during his first run in the WWF from 1987-1993 was his feud with Mr. Perfect which culminated in a match at Summerslam where the loser had to spend a day in jail. Another moment was his one-on-one showdown with Ric Flair in the Royal Rumble, where he charged at Ric, determined to knock him over the ropes, but Flair ducked and Boss Man went head first out to the arena floor. Best of all, his theme for that era was one of my faves, and it is also on one of mix cds of themes.

In 1992 and into 1993, his status was declining in the WWF due to him ignoring officials pleas for him to lose weight, and thus when his contract expired in 1993 it wasn't renewed and he headed right on over to WCW later that year being dubbed as "The Boss" almost a carbon-copy of his Big Boss Man gimmick. He had a series of great matches with Vader, which is nearly unheard of when you combine two big-man wrestlers.

Unfortunately, WWF recognized the "gimmick infringement" and threatened a lawsuit to WCW if Traylor wasn't given a makeover and so at the 1994 Spring Stampede after losing to Vader, a WCW Commissioner stripped Traylor of his right to where the police officer uniform and of "The Boss" name. Shortly after that Traylor returned under a new persona as "The Guardian Angel" in what was rather a more forgettable gimmick and was shelved in quick fashion after only being around for under a year. Eventually the gimmick found its way into the archives of Wrestlecrap .

In 1995 Traylor brought back his old "Big Bubba Rogers" gimmick in WCW and was shortly inducted into Kevin Sullivan's "Dungeon of Doom" faction with the likes of more doomed gimmicks such as The Yeti, and The Leprechaun. He remained there well into 1996 doing not much of anything of note other than being a loyal DoD lackey. Towards the end of 1996 he jumped factions from the Dungeon of Doom into the red hot New World Order (nWo). He remained there for a good year, but the nWo became cluttered with dead weight as the years wore on, and one-by-one they eliminated the enhancement talent and Big Bubba was the next to get the boot after a series of losses on a September 1997 edition of Nitro. Right after that, Bubba started wrestling under his real name as Ray Traylor and formed a stable with the Steiners and Ted Dibiase. He teamed with them until early 1998 until Scott Steiner turned, and then Traylor just kinda vanished off the Nitro scene and was only scene on lower-tiered shows like Worldwide and Saturday Night until his contract expired in the summer of 1998.

In October of 1998, Ray Traylor returned to the WWF as the Big Boss Man as Vince McMahon's new bodyguard sporting a new Black Security guard outfit. Soon others joined Vince's new faction like Ken Shamrock, Test, and The Big Show and his new group was dubbed "The Corporation." The Bossman had a good push upon his return and won the Tag Team titles with Ken Shamrock in December 1998 and held the belts for almost two months. While holding the tag team straps he was the second ever Hardcore champion and exhanged the belt back and forth with Al Snow for the better part of 1999. It was also around this time Boss Man got a huge push, as he had a Hell in a Cell match with the Undertaker which was the second main attraction to the disastrous (IMO) Wrestlemania XV. After losing, other members of Undertaker's faction "The Ministry of Darkness" ran in and hung Boss Man from the cage. It was billed as one of the worst matches of 1999, but BossMan had one more ace up his sleeve to top it.

To cap off his long feud with Al Snow which featured such forgettable moments as Boss Man cooking up Al's pet dog "pepper" and making Al Snow actually eat it right in front of him. Their epic, near half year long feud by having the first and only to date "Kennel of Hell" match at the '99 Unforgiven PPV. It was a decent idea on paper where the old school WWF cage was surrounded by the Hell in a Cell cage, the gap inbetween both cages was surrounded by actual bloodhounds that decided to crap on the arena floor during the match. The first wrestler to escape wins. You could tell that both wrestlers were really trying to give it their all to make the match work, but the audience at the arena just weren't into it. After a less-than-memorable 10 minutes of action, Al Snow escaped and won in what was almost unanimously voted as the worst match of 1999.

But Boss Man was rewarded with another big run with the Big Show, no pun intended. Unforunately, there was a lot more forgettable build-up for their big clash. In the storylines Big Show's father died and Boss Man decided to really drive the point home as he interrupted his funeral and hooked up the casket to his vehicle and drove off with it as the Big Show jumped on it as it was getting dragged down the street. This segment alone was also inducted into the aforementioned Wrestlecrap archives. Other unmemorable segments from this feud was the Boss Man destroying Big Show's dad's pocket watch he cherised so much and visiting Big Show's mother's home and where he got her to admit that he was a bastard child. All this horrendous build-up led to the two's anticlimatic encounter where they co-headlined the Armageddon '99 PPV. To add more to the match, the Big Show won the WWE title the month before, and it was on the line. For a match that had months of build up, which led to almost a good hour of segments, interviews, and tag matches for their huge one-on-one encounter for the title, the match lasted not even 5 minutes where Show annihilated the hell out of the Boss Man to retain the title so that the main event of McMahon and Triple H could last 30 straight minutes.

After that big loss, Boss Man started his decline from the upper mid card into the lower tier of WWF talent. He lost the Hardcore title for the last time in early 2000. He had one last segment where he brought in fellow prison guard, Bull Buchanon and the two formed a tag team and won a bout against Al Snow & Steve Blackman at Wrestlemania XVI. The team lasted only several months though as Buchanon and Boss Man parted ways in June 2000. Boss Man didn't last too long on his own in WWF programming as he was fizzled outta the picture by the end of 2000, and he mostly focused on being a WWF road agent and trainer for the better part of the next year.

Boss Man did make a brief return in late 2001 as he helped Booker T jumped Steve Austin on an episode of Smackdown. The two teamed for a couple weeks then Boss Man was on his own again and wasn't really involved in anymore big angles. His last PPV appearence if I recall correctly was in the 2002 Royal Rumble match. I believe he was also part of a 6-man tag on a live Heat prior to Wrestlemania X8, but that doesn't really count as a PPV appearence now does it? Boss Man was part of the lottery draft, and got drafted on the RAW roster. He appeared several times on its programs before taking on an assignment to watch over WWE's developmental program in Ohio. And that was his last WWE assignment to my knowledge.

I'll miss the Boss Man, from his best to his worst moments that I described above, he always did what was asked of him and he gave it his all to make it work. PRetty much the word going around the web right now is that Traylor was a great guy to have in the locker room, never in a bad mood and always walking around with his head up and a big smile on his face. It is a big rarity to have a tremendous co-worker like Ray Traylor. As I mentioned before, as I will again he was one of my favorites. He was also one of my favorite characters to use in the WWF games he appeared in. I almost always picked him in the Arcade classic WWF Wrestlefest, and the N64 legend, No Mercy. Godspeed, Boss Man, we all know you are in a better place.

snore

I'm listening to the 49ers/Seahawks games on the webradio right now, and the Niners are barely doing anything. It's a lil ways into the 3rd quarter and they're already down 32-0. I feel like that coach on Waterboy who's watching film of their past games. They'll get a decent play here and there, and then fumble or throw a pick or something.........blah. At least my fantasy players are doing well. Aaron Brooks threw for over 300 yards. And I picked up Stecker in replacement for the injured Stephon Davis as RB and he ran for over a 100 yards and a TD. Brett Favre already has a 150 yards and 2 passing TDs shortly into the 2nd quarter too, so yahoo for me. I should have my usual fantasy update come Tuesday.

At least the Vikes won a close game against the Bears which was pretty fun to watch. They were self destructing early on in the second half with a plethora of holding calls against them, but they managed to come together and close it out nicely. Ended up getting calls from Corey & Jarod too during the games and ended up doing some running commentary during the games with them, which kinda made it a hair easier watching the 49ers get annihilated.

The rest of the work week went by decent enough, except during one shift Aubree decided to laugh in my face as we were having a conversation where everyone was shocked that I told them I haven't seen any of the first three Star Wars movies to hit theaters back in the 70's and 80's. We start getting in a debate about the 'episode 4' movie was originally called 'A New Hope' or if they added the subtitle in at a later date. This leads to Aubree saying something along the lines of 'Well, this number of book in the Star Wars series was called 'A New Hope.' To which I respond, "The movies were based on the books? Didn't the movies precede the books?" Aubree then proceeded to laugh in my face out loud for almost an entire minute. Now personally, I could give a rat's ass upon what preceded what, but I was simply stating what I knew. But the fact that she laughed directly in my face just a few feet away for me for that period of time increased my anger level to new heights. The thought actually crossed my mind if I should deck her right then and there, before I realized how foolish it would be to do that and get fired.......over freaking Star Wars of all things. Just for that I'm not even gonna buy the goddam trilogy or even see the last movie in the theater.........unless someone pays me to see them....hehehe.

I ended up coming in to work on one of my days off on Friday because we were behind in the work week, due to Aubree missing two days, and Steve working at around 50% or so with a sprained ankle. So I picked up some rarely approved overtime. Ended up getting 7 hours overtime so I should have a pretty good paycheck. After work Corey and I went over to Carlos to try out the new Tiger Woods 2005 game. Feels almost the same as 2003, but there's a new chipping system, a new announcer, some new cut-scenes, and the create-a-player system. The create-a-golfer system in TW2005 is almost on par with the create a wrestlers found in most current WWE titles. I also picked up Burnout 3. It is a helluva lot more fun than the second installment. Wish there was more competitors against you in race mode, playing online against just five other opponents isn't as fun as say the 16-player competetions I enjoyed in the pair of MotoGP titles on Xbox Live. At least the Crash mode is still just as mind-blowing as I remember it, and is even better now that it can be played co-operatively.

On Saturday I went Cosmic Bowling with Jarod, Dawn, Chris, and Kyle. We finished two game in which Kyle won both. I didn't fare too bad. I started off both games kinda weak, but doubled my points in the last half of the frames. I bowled a 107, and a 99, I was winning too at 62 in the 5th frame in my third game too when they shut things down. What luck. I think for me I have best control with a 12 pound ball, but for the most part most 12 pound house balls fave small finger holes, so I end up picking a 16 pound ball that tend to have bigger holes. I dont have too much control over those as much as I do with 12 pounders, so I've actually been considering getting a custom made 12 pound ball, but those things cost damn near a 200-300 dollars so we'll just have to see what happens.

Well, I typed myself out again, I'll be back on Tuesday with my Fantasy Football update.

Trips

My weekend trip to St. Paul and Montevideo went by fairly well, except for the fact I totally screwed up my sleep pattern. After I got off work at 7 in the morning I stayed up for a little while until our family left town around 10am. We got to my sister's in Montevideo about 3pm. At that point I was on the verge of collapsing, yet I still managed to visit with my family until 7pm, where I ended up staying up for 26 hours straight before getting some much needed rest. On Saturday we all went to visit my Uncle Roy down in St. Paul. He was just diagnosed with cancer last month, and is only expected to live another 18-24 months. He looked a little weak, definitely not his former self, but he still was his same old joking self, and our family and I had a great time visiting with him for about the 8 hours we were there. We went out for dinner, and shortly thereafter headed back to Montevideo.

Ann and I drove home early the next day so I could catch the 49ers play the Saints. It was a match-up Corey and I was anticipating for months since those are our favorite teams. Unfortunately we couldn't catch the action until midway thru the second quarter. We went to Buffalo Wild Wings cause they had Direct Ticket and thought they had access to all the games, but they said their televisions were only set for half of the games on that day. We then drove to Joe DiMaggio's and it was the same story there. Finally, the third time was a charm as we were able to see it at Dagwood's. It was actually a damn close game as the 49ers knocked out Deuce McAllister early on with an injury that'll let him be out of action from 3-5 weeks. 49ers got the lead near the end, and were just simply running the ball to kill the clock, but with 3 minutes to go, Jamal Robertson fumbled and lost, and the Saints drove all the downfield to make a game winning TD with a minute left to win a close one, 30-27.

I only had about five hours of sleep that day, so shortly after the game I literally dropped dead on my bed around 7pm thinking to myself, 'just a lil 3-4 nap so I can make it thru the night to keep up my sleep pattern' but no siree, stayed passed out until 3am. I stayed after that watching shows I taped like TNA, Smackdown, and some CSI (I have been really getting into that since they've been airing re-runs on Spike TV last month). TNA was its regular hour of mediocrity. Smackdown surprised me with the return of Big Visc and Gangrel, and how Tazz & Cole left commentary during a nothing match was uniquely memorable was well. But was it me or did it look like Heidenrich was butt-raping Cole? I managed to take another nap later on Monday from 2-6pm, but I still thought I would be screwed going into work tonight, but I managed to stay alert throughout my shift until this very moment. Thank God in lil miracles.

Saw the 'season premeir' of RAW last night, kind of silly to label it that since there never are any re-runs of RAW aired, but there was sure some groundbreaking stuff. The Kane/Lita/Sninski stuff was actually pretty entertaining, and Vince's announcement also has me curious on what the fans will vote to happen at the PPV. The Shawn/Y2J match was gold until the damn run-ins ruined it, but all in all, another good RAW.

That about wraps it up for me today....lates.

huzz

Hey Yo! Just wrapped up the work week a few hours ago. I got another talk from my boss along with Corey and Carlos today, it wasn't really a bad one like the one I had back in March, but it was more or less to concentrate on some bumps in the road so to speak. Made me feel better that my boss said I'm a lot better than I was back in March, but that there's still room for improvement, and they pretty much said I need to streamline my confidence level as I'm either over-confident or not confident enough in my work. I showed them last night at work though as I smoked through a few sets today in no time.

On Wendesday I went to eat at the new Culvers restaurant that opened up in town. I saw 'Pot Roast Beef Sandwich' on the menu and I had to have it. When they brought it out to me, they served it with a fork, and within moments I noticed why as the sandwich crumbled in my hand. Other than that minor setback it was damn good. I wanted to try that frozen custard they had, but I neglected to ask for it when I ordered.

Oh yeah, I got my review of Day of Reckoning up, check it out by

Unforgiven, RAW thoughts

Halfway thru the week, nothing too interesting happening so far. I cooked again. Made a meal for my ma tho other day. Simple spaghetti again,
nothing too special. I find it odd, I'm slowly getting into baseball again. I use to be a huge baseball fan growing up as I had a huge card collection, but lost a majority of my interest after the strike of '94 and almost alltogether when my favorite player, Paul Moliter, retired 1998. But this year Moliter got elected into the Hall of Fame, and now Ichiro (sp?) is approaching the single-season hits record, Bonds breaking Mays homerun stat and approachin homer #700, and now I'm following the Twins and Astros a teeny bit this year too.

Triple H won the World Title back this past Sunday on Unforgiven, I don't mind him anymore as his workrate has finally been where it was around 2000-2001 this whole year. By golly, dare I say it, he actually...deserves the belt. Still would have it on Benoit tho. Good to see Jericho win the IC belt in a tremendous match-up. I don't care what everyone says about Tomko/Richards killing the crowd, Stevie Richards got his first and his PPV match since Survivor Series 2001 so I'm happy with that. Now there's a guy who works his ass off and gets nowhere in the WWE.

I enjoyed RAW this past Monday too. Lot of focus on wrestling, with good lengthy matches between Conway/Benoit, and HBK/Y2J vs Christian/Tomko. Main event was a disappointment of course, but the opening celebration segment was awesome and its great to see Benjamin back. Best of all, Lita's pregnency angle looks to be over, so we won't have to deal with that anymore, all thanks to...a jobber? I think was the longest the WWE ever ran with a pregnecy angle before.

That's all for today, latez!

Fantasy Football - Week 1

I got embarrased in my first week of Fantasy Football, I lost by a score of 214-136. Stephon Davis did nothing for me. Favre & Brooks also did disappointing figuring in on the stats. Hoo-ray for Julian Peterson tho. 2 sacks and 2 forced fumbles racked in mega points for me. On a down note, Jimmy Kleinsausser got hyperextended his knee and should be out for 1-2 weeks, but he's still listed as 'doubtful' as he's known to play thru injuries before. He's a tough lad but I benched him for this week and picked up Eric Johnson as my starting Tight End as he had a great game last Sunday against the Falcons. Here's me, and my opponent stats.

NFL Kickoff whooo, lets go Nine--------damn

Howdy all sorry for the gap in entries. Been busy being lazy ;) weekend went by fine. TNA was its regular hour of mediocrity on Friday, tho I figured out how to get my VCR to program weekly recordings of my shows so now I wont forget to tape them like I did on other weeks before. I've been playing a lot of Day of Reckoning lately, pretty damn fun I might add. My review should be posted any day now so I should have a link up on my next entry.

On Friday I hung out with Steve a bit, shot some hoops and played a few rounds of horse. Went back to my place and pretty much stayed up all night playing Day of Reckoning. I swore I played that game for a good 15 hours in total this weekend. On Saturday I didn't really do anything of note, except grabbed a pizza with Joey and did a little bit of grocery shopping. By groceries, I mean 80% frozen dinner meals :) Banquet $1 meals and 89 cent Totino's Pizzas are great for the price. I did buy some more spaghetti and garlic toast, and I plan on cooking that again.

Sunday was the first NFL Sunday of the regular season. I spent it mostly bouncing back and forth between my PC and the television. My fantasy football team started off with a good 65-50 or so lead after the first set of games, but my opponent had Culpepper and Moss on his team, and well, Culpepper threw 5 TD passes, and by the end of Sunday's games I was down about 170-78 :(

It was nice to see the Vikes win big over the Cowboys. Though Kleinsausser got injured, which sucks, and so did Moe Williams. Now the Vikes are down to one healthy running back, but he might have to face an impending 4 game suspension for drug abuse which he is trying to appeal. You never thought a team could go through 3 great running backs in a season, but the Vikes have shocked us before and they will again.

49ers started off horrible against the Falcons, Rattay got injured in the second quarter after doing nothing, Dorsey took over and actually led them to a good drive but the Niners only got a FG out of it. Early in the second half Dorsey got a mild shoulder sprain and Rattay came back in again, he drove them all the way down but threw a pick in the endzone, which a Falcon player ran back 85 yards to set up another Falcons TD. Thankfully, that was the 49ers only main mistake of second half. Rattay made up for it and got a TD when Eric Johnson made a spectacular catch in the endzone, and could of tied the game with a 2 point conversion, but the play failed and Falcons went on to win 20-18. Still a loss, but not as awful as many were predicting.

Other notes from rest of the games: Wow, Colts/Pats had a great season opening game on Thursday. Good to see the Pats come out on top in that one. Also great to see the Lions end their NFL-record losing streak on the road, too bad it was against the Bears as I'm starting to warm up to Rex Grossman, he gave it his all out there. There were a few BS calls in that game too, whenever Terell made a great play for them, they just kept getting called back. Gannon struggled a bit today against the Steelers, and you had to feel for him in his loss as he kept it competive towards the end despite all the turnovers he commited. Good to see Garcia leading the Browns to a whomp over the Ravens, San Fran shouldn't of let him go IMO. Terell Owens was superb in his debut with the Eagles, 3 TD's in one game is not a bad way to start off with a new team. D-Mac really loves him it looks like.

That about wraps it up for me for now.........lata!

heh

Whooop! Been an uninteresting past couple of days that were saved by the miracle of pointless comedies on the 'net huzzah!

I finally cooked, oh my God! I invited my dad over and I cooked spaghetti and Texas toast. Not the most complex meal, but still a meal nonetheless. Damn good eating, it was so good I made some more the next day. Spaghetti, is good, simple, and quick, go makeyourself some!

The mess all started on my last day of the work week on Thursday night, it started normal, but by the end of it of I was getting really out of it and just acting clumsy. Y'know, Carlos, Corey, and Grear treat me like a dumbass at work so I may as well act the part. Hell, I kinda like it. I like to be a character sometimes, I think I help brighten their uneventful days where they usually whine and moan about everyone else in the store.

On Friday, I didn't do a whole hell of a lot. I pretty much stayed at home on my day off. I played Vice City again for the first time in a while, they should really add a 'restart mission' option to that game so I don't have to backtrail and get my weapons again, it really pisses me off and thats why I can't play that game for more than 30 minute sessions anymore. Watched the 49ers lose another preseason game to the fricking chargers of all teams by a score of something like 31-16. They went 0-4 in the preseason now and I think its a sad hint of what to look forward to during the regular season.

Saturday Jane invited Ann, Mom, and I out for dinner at her place on Base. Good eating indeed, watched Takin Lives afterwards witch was a surprisingly good film. Best Angelina movie to date. I wonder what the reaction would have been like if they took out the last scene. Got home and lost a round of NFL 2K5 online to Mr. Syckx. Been surfin the 'net ever since, and I found a couple of things that have brightened my day.

Another loss

49ers just lost another pre-season game to the chargers by a whopping score of 31-15. They had 3 TD's called back due to stupid penalites and just blew up too many times in the redzone. The niners ended up 0-4 in the preseason, which is probably a sad hint of things to come. I thought things couldn't get any worse after their 1999 season, but it looks like I might be proved wrong.
