You think series like Sonic, Street Fighter and Crash Bandicoot are on the same level as newer series that aren't on the list such as Halo? The gamers didn't die but the series did.Maelkav
What you saying is erase history and make room for the future? I'm sorry that doesn't sit well with me. I think these numbers goes to show you that this games deserve some respect. Not just Halo and Gears of War. Also Sonic just is not dead a new game was release a few months back. I know alot of the casuals think Street Fighter is dead. Sad they are ignorant of the truth about SF.
No I'm saying that in the context of this generations system wars many series on that list are of little importance. I wasn't the one that started on the topic on sales but that is what this thread is about. Sales wise the games I mentioned are not as important this generation as past generations.
The huge amount of Tomb Raider, GTA, Sims, Final Fantasy, Mario, Zelda, Tekken, Resident Evil, etc. etc. etc. etc. games that are coming out THIS GEN would disagree with you.
I said many not all but even from the ones you listed many of those series are in decline and only GTA, Mario and Final Fantasy did better than Halo last generation. Please check the figures yourself. http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&console=&publisher=&sort=Total
Your link is for an online site. My figures are from a published multiplatform gaming magazine. I tend to trust the latter, not the former.
Those are the exact numbers Wikipedia has had for a long time. I don't trust anyone that uses wiki numbers and that magazine is no exception.[QUOTE="Idonomeus"][QUOTE="shungokustasu"][QUOTE="Idonomeus"]

Sonic for example. You have to remember that they have only been in the game for a single generation and games such as Gears of War and Halo sold more than many of those top franchises did with their first game. There is also the fact that some developers aren't too keen on franchises and would be in the list if they rehashed series instead of creating new works.shungokustasuWhat is your point? My point is the many of these series on this list were important to the console war 10 years ago. Who had the top selling franchises last generation is much more relevant to this generations console war. No. Doesn't work like that. You think the gamers from 10 years ago all died? You think series like Sonic, Street Fighter and Crash Bandicoot are on the same level as newer series that aren't on the list such as Halo? The gamers didn't die but the series did.
[QUOTE="terdoo"][QUOTE="Maelkav"][QUOTE="Hammerofjustice"]Halo isnt in there, neither is gears of war, this thread fails.Maelkav
These are actual sales figures, idiot!
Halo and GoW aren't in there because they didn't sell enough....
Halo series has sold over 7 million :o alot more over 7 million
Link?
And the lowest on the rung sold 11 Million, if you would have taken the time to look. Halo might have made 12th or 13th (which is still pretty dang sweet!)
Halo sold 6 million and Halo 2 sold about 8 million. In the future it's best not to use wiki for anything. VGcharts is not a perfect source but it's a lot better than wiki. http://vgchartz.com/worldtotals.php?name=&console=XB&publisher=&sort=Total[QUOTE="Idonomeus"]Some of those series while important in the past are not as important today as some of the franchises Microsoft has. [QUOTE="Idonomeus"]The generation is 4-5 years long and the Wii is not in the lead yet and only has a 3 million unit lead over the PS3 at this point in time. Last gen around 150 million consoles were sold, so a 3 million unit lead is nothing in a race that long. When GTA 4 comes out I expect both the PS3 and 360 to start picking up in sales. coltonnaslund
GTA is SOOO overrated........I had more fun playing True Crime to be honest
I disagree but regardless of our personal opinions it was the best selling series last generation by far.
