A couple of things here. It's 2007, so I'm not sure how they know they'll meet 2008 projections. Also, NOT all 360 HAVE to be defective for there to be a recall or a problem.

Obviuosly there are major problems with hardware ( 3 year warranty) but I just posted this to stop all the OMG MS pulling xbox plug and the false belief that 100% 360s are defective thats all

So peter Moore left, big deal he wanted to be with his family. Also the 1 billion was calculated into last quater so this quater remains untouched. After investors see the profits MS will make this holiday season they wont close the division. The gaming industry is bigger than the movie and music industry, controlling it means alot of money. Besides it is estimated that computer sales will start to slow in the coming years meaning less profit from the OS division so MS is trying to expand while they are still making tons of profit from windows and poors it into expanding the company (xbox, zune). MS has also stated repeatedly that MS is in it for multiple generations. Unlike most companies in the world MS doesnt care about profits as mnuch as you think. They care about stock value and market share in their markets. Right now the 360 is set to sell millions of units this holiday far surpassing what the PS3 will sell. The wii is the only competition this holiday and they are aiming at completely different demographics. MS will take teh holiday season and turn a huge profit for the quater. MS will become profitable in 2007, starting to make back money. Investors realize it take stime for market dominance and it speeds the process by using MS vast financial empire. The xbox will one day pay off its debt there are no doubt about that it will take time thats all. In the mean time MS is focusing on stealing the PS monopoly, something it is well on the way to tackle as the PS empire is crumling at an astonishing rate with its division taking losses that are bigger than that of MS and sales much lower than MS (July doesnt count till NDP out)
My local walmart now have a constant of atleast 5-6 wiis in the front case 1 or two xbox 360s and 1 PS3. I asked and the guy said that they have piles of PS3 in the back but they chose to display more wiis than 360 and PS3. So yes the PS3 sells but ask the guy working there they probably have like 20 in the back most likely.
Because the PS2 has sold more than 120 milion so developers are olding off (if the title come sout in 2008 atleast) to formally announce if iut were to become multiplat. I think they are waiting to see how the 360 sales are gonna do before jumping, if the gap say widens then I think games might start going multiplat. THey wont abbandon SOny anytime soon as just incase the PS3 suddenyl gains momentum that they have games to capitalize on the 120 million people buying their determined console. Porting to the wii although succesful will result in terrible quality titles since the lack of graphics and next gen physics can put games like The Force Unleashed to shame.
