A 10 never meant that it was a perfect game. If you took San Andreas (which got a 10 in Gameplay, Value and Tilt) and added the graphics and sound of Resident Evil 4 (both 10s) you would have a game that would have gotten a 10.

Now, it's not even that, as you would imagine a couple games would've been rounded up under the new system.

Nonethless, it's completely unlikely that any one game would get a 10. People say LBP but really, there was no way in hell that GameSpot would've given it a 10 in Gameplay given how they marked Gameplay in the past; a game like LBP would just never be refined enough out of the box to be a 10 in Gameplay (which is basically reserved for a very small amount of games). There are always a bunch of games that could get to that super elite level but it would pretty much just be the huge outlier in the system.

Not to sound like a dick but why would something Silicon Knights say be relevant? Eternal Darkness was 6 years ago for God's sake.

Final Fantasy XI is on the 360.

And to answer the topic, I think Ratchet needs something of a prolonged hiatus.

$299 with maybe 5 of MGS4, FFXIII, GTAIV, LBP, WKS, GT5, KZ2, R:FOM2, GOW3 becoming AAA games and one of those becoming an all-time classic.

50 years from now, gaming will be much like it is now. Better graphics, more use of motion sensing, more risqué storylines, but ultimately no huge departures from what we know.

And then Duke Nukem Forever will re-invent gaming... Forever!

Can we wait until these games come out? I think we all appreciate the ideas that Spore/LBP bring to the table but they're also relatively unknown quantities. We haven't even seen enemies in LBP yet. Spore, despite it's scope, is basically a collection of indivualised games and so we have to rely on those games being good themselves. While either or both could get into that level of re-inventing gaming, the likes of MGS4/GTAIV/SSBB/etc. are much safer choices to win Game of the Year.

Good games still sell a hell of a lot better than bad games. You're not likely to have a huge runaway success making anything but a AAA game and there is quite a bit of correlation between review scores and sales.

GTA III was the defining game of the generation. Absolutely no game could be expected to be that, especially GTA IV which, despite it's imminent AAA-ness, doesn't appear to be a far departure from the recent GTAs.

The Burnout series and NHL series all have continually horrifying soundtracks. Many other big EA titles are along the same path but those are the main offenders.

As for original soundtracks, the Virtua Fighter 4: Evolution soundtrack was just boring and Castlevania: Harmony of Dissonance sounded like an NES game.
