I have no problem with female protaganists, but developers should not be forced to add that option if that's not the direction they wanted to go. Having said that, though, Ubi Softs excuse as to why they didn't have a female protaganist in Assasins Creed Unity was simply disingenuous. Don't make stupid excuses Ubi, just own it and I highly doubt you'll get this type of reaction in the future.
I find it odd that Depression Quest would get rejected on the basis that it's not a game because it's text based. Many early games were completely text based, especially RPG's on computers in the early 80's. It really makes one realize that so many gamers today know nothing about the roots of gaming.
This idea that third-party games wouldn't sell on a Nintendo console are pretty shortsighted and based on Nintendo's missteps the last several generations, rather than a matter fact look at reality. If Nintendo came out with a console that catered to third-party developers combined with their innovative ideas, I have no doubt it would sell on par with the competition. Hell, maybe even more than the competition.
The problem is analogous with the Playstation 3 in the way in which Sony was unwilling to accept outside input, which lead to hardware setbacks partly costing them the console race. Nintendo needs take a page out of Sony's book and realize they can't go it alone. They need to offer a console with hardware on par with the competition, but combine it with that innovative Nintendo hook. Perhaps new management would do the trick.
Wow, a true roll reversal this coming generation. After being humbled this gen, Sony seems to have sobered up where as Microsoft let the success of the 360 go to their heads.
