[QUOTE="Magical_Guy"]I odn't make threads with my name in the title.Spartan070
People do that all the time. Besides, literally everyone in SW already knows me, I don't need attention.

If you're going to use the word "literally", learn what it means.

[QUOTE="Hir0_N"]Meh doesnt change the fact that PS3 is $600 and in last position with the least compeling games. Trading_Zoner

it's in last. for now.

But as my proof has shown you, that can change dramatically at the drop of a hat.

In the case of the PS3, we are talking about a very large hat.

[QUOTE="Blue-Berry"]The great flaw of this thread is that those charts are launch aligned, and not date aligned. The PS1 came a whole year before N64 and PS2 came again a year before the competition. So they had a succesful launch and spiked up by the time the competition launched their own stuff. The greatly utilized year headstart gave both PS the victory IMO.The rest of the gen falled swiftly. This time around the 360 tried to establish itself before the competition and did great and could have this generation in the back if it didn't flop so badly in Japan. It could be at 15-16 million! The PS3 failed to get any headstart as its previous iterations did before and had an acceptable launch. The Wii on the other hand had an extremely succesful launch and even now outsells all its competitors weekly in every area of the world. To me at least is pretty obvious Wii has the highest chances of winning right now while the PS3 and the 360 compete fiercely for second place. P.S. On the DC VS PS2 the dreamcast was doomed from the start from Sega's financial mess. Makes me wish Sega was more of a biz wiz as nintendo is.Blue-Berry

I posted a graph above N64 vs PS1 sales dates aligned.

I see. That's kind of surprising. Too see how the PS rocketed up in its second year is kind of interesting. Price-drop induced? If it is it could mean great things for microsoft if they drop their own price. Still you shouldn't dismiss launch numbers, if the 64 hadn't sold as well as it did its first year it would probably had been one of the worst consoles around.

If you look at the Japanese charts for N64 vs. PS1 it becomes much clearer.  N64 had good initial momentum in NA but eventually lost steam because it failed badly in Japan.  If you lose Japan, you lose a bunch of software support.  The same thing happened to GameCube, but much faster.

Wii, on the other hand, has very good momentum in all three regions.  It's not going to suffer from losing software support because it's quickly establishing a viable userbase in all regions.

Aligned-launch graphs are pretty useless.  Align dates and you'll see a clearer picture.

Hmmm, I wonder why more people aren't responding to my post?

If you agree, with it tell me. If you disagree, post your opinion please, I think this thread is very informative and can enlighten alot of people who think PS3 is going to fail, and Wii is automatically going to outsell it becuase of launch numbers.

System Wars is a bad place to try to have a rational discussion on this topic.  I suggest you visit NeoGAF and hang out in the NPD and Media Create threads.

Comparing Wii to GameCube is silly.  By December, Wii will have sold more units in Japan than GameCube did in five years.  The Japanese software support that bolstered the PlayStation brand so effectively over the last two generations will belong to the Wii.

[QUOTE="salvod123"]

Face it, Wii WAS awesome. The Wii was so innovative with its controller and even its price, but the gimmick is over. The games they have are complete crap with no replay value. YES Zelda is awesome, but other than that they have no major titles coming in the near future that the general public knows about.

And for some facts, Returns on Wii are becoming uncharacteristically high for a piece of hardware, and ebay/craigslist numbers are higher than any other system.

Goodbye Wii, you were fun, but the big N needs a real HD next gen system for all of their A-list franchises

Timstuff

Hmm... I wonder if the NPD numbers even bother to account for returned systems, if what you say is true...

NPD is all new sales, but what's your point?  It's not like it's easy to find used Wii systems at EB.  Any that have been returned to retailers as trade-ins have been turned around and sold to another customer before they hit the shelf.

Sales are the prime determinant of future product superiority in the console market.

[QUOTE="Tylendal"][QUOTE="ps3-nikita"][QUOTE="SecretPolice"]

I am soooo tired of people falling for the " N " hype machine ( not just Wii, all of Nintendo ) they continue as is their strength to manufacture a false phenom so well that even some of the best consumers fall for their game.

If you think for one minute that " N " can not supply to retailers as many Wii's as they want than you are badly fooled ! This is classic Nintendo and they count on " phenom " to sell their products ! Just make supply short, people constantly see they can not get thier product hence raising demand above supply - Phenom made !! Once a person see's one on the shelf - It's the " oh my, I must buy it now " b/c who knows when I may find another dilema. This is old tactics and those who fall for this stuff should take account of their selves.

The truth is, Nintendo could flood the market right now and still have Wii's sitting in the warehouse !! Wake up gamers b/c you are getting owned by the oldest tricks in maketing 101 !! ;)

ps3-nikita

How can they they fell for teh Wii. That alone is one of the biggest cons in gaming history.

What makes you so sure that it can be manufactured so quickly. In my opinion, 6mil in 4 months is beyond impressive.

The fact that you believe it without question and that other sheep compare those numbers to 360 and PS3, speaks volumes. This goes to the industry people as well.

Well, I guess if Nintendo is smart enough to fool everybody, then there's just no fighting it.  Xbox and Playstation am doomed because Nintendo pulled a fast one. :roll:
