Xbox and GameCube were both more powerful than the PS2, but they didn't outlast it.

If Wii ends up being the most successful, it will outlast PS3 by years. It's software development that keeps a console alive, not hardware capabilities.

I dont know man , ps2 outlasted the cube and the box and god of war 2 was like testament to why people still buying ps2's.The wii may get a large install base but i dont think nintendo will support it for as long as sony will support the ps3. Also I dont see the wii's library being as impressive as the ps3's. Nintendo needs alot more new and mature IP's imo to out last ps3. Right now though according to npd .. nintendo has 53% of the market , making it #1 in terms of sales thus far largely due to portable sales and the wiis cheapness. I dont see the wii lasting as long as ps3 or 360 though due to lack of new IP's. Its all speculation I got nothing...



That's not how it works. If the Wii gets a much larger install base than the PS3, it will be in the financial best interests of Nintendo and third party publishers to continue to publish Wii software for as long as possible. The platform that achieves the greatest install base has the greatest longevity.

Most interesting thing though is how well sonys last gen ps2 is still doing compared to xbox and gamecube. Also note that the ps3 will have a 10 year lifecycle .....Its all about longevity. Oh hell no.  I never cared for Xbox in the slightest.  I liked GameCube much better than Xbox.  But it's damn obvious that GameCube didn't have any compelling advantages over Xbox.

I don't know about "failing miserably", but right now, as in right this moment, PS3 is in third place.

Maybe it will eventually catch up.  But right now, it's actually losing ground to its competitors.

To put it another way:  The current status of PS3 is 3rd place and falling behind.

Before the PS3 can outsell its competitors, it's got to catch up to them.  And before it can catch up to its competitors, it's got to stop losing ground.

You forgot Yellow Earthquake Yoshi.

And any color Yoshi could use any power-up by holding the right color shell in his mouth.

And if you let a turtle crawl into a yellow shell, it will turn into a flashing, spinning shell.  If you swallow that, you get all three powers simultaneously.

But the thumb on the scales has got to be the fact that if you go through the special zone all of the turtle shells become creepy Mario masks.  SMW > SMB3, if only barely.

Super Mario World used savegames to provide an integrated overworld with free travel between zones.

Super Mario World has more total level area than SMB3

Cape Mario can fly farther and faster than Raccoon Mario, with greater maneuverability.  And you don't have to hit the button again and again.

SMB3 has Airships and Fortresses.  SMW has Castles, Fortresses, and Boo Houses.

SMW even has a sunken ghost ship!

Ask yourself:  Does SMB3 have a sunken ghost ship?  Or Torpedo Ted?
