the PS3 + vita will be a downgraded experience when compared to wii u's, simply because you can not output PS3-level graphics to your vita simultaneously with your TV display.

one example of how this is useful is using your wii u controller as a sniper scope. on the controller screen, you can see the exact same graphics quality as shown on your tv, except with a private sniper scope. makes the scope seemless when shown over your tv screen. this can't be done on vita, because the graphics quality will be downgraded significantly on vita when compared to your tv screen.

[QUOTE="Timstuff"]Do you know for a fact that the Wii U can display Wii U-quality graphics on the TV and screen simultaneously? If not, than this point is moot.Kashiwaba

its been showed in demos many times already.

and the wii U HD GPU has multi-display functionality. this technically allows the the console's GPU to stream HD graphics display to the controller simultaneously with the TV display.

you even mentioned this functionality (streaming console graphics to the controller) in your very first post.

try knowing what you are talking about before posting. it helps.

Does this answer your question?

You need 3 PS3s for this but I assume since PSV got its own CPU and GPU it can replace one PS3 So I dont think that PS3 needs a GPU with multi display functionality.

so the comment was displaying PS3-level graphics on both displays. sure, you can have downgraded graphics on your vita simultaneously with your PS3.

just answer the question. explain how the PS3 + vita can display PS3-level graphics simultaneously without multi-display functionality.

oh so the PS3 GPU has multi-display capabilities now?

if not, then NO, this setup can NOT replicate what the wii U can do.

I guess that's the Radeon HD 5450 (80 SPs)? does that even stack up to the 360?

JB730

You would need Radeon HD with 240 SPs (240 32bit data processing per cycle) with atleast 128bit external bus and GDDR3 memory type.

ah i see. i think its safe to conclude nintendo can absolutely not be going with an 80 - 160 SPs AMD GPU then, they can't make it that much inferior to the 360/PS3.

if the wii u is at LEAST on par with the 360/ps3 (as many reports confirm), then they have to be going with a custom version of Radeon HD 5550+ or Radeon HD 6570+ at the very minimum - all which smoke the 360.

this is all very speculative of me, but seems to be make sense with the info we got. thanks for the info!

after some consideration, i take this back.

based on the release date of wii u, and the fact that its gotta be custom made (ie. developed by AMD, who is working to release AMD Radeon HD 7000 series products), it has to be part of AMD Radeon HD 7000 family of GPUs.

there is a chance that the lowest end part of this GPU family has similar capabilities to the 360, so it might just be a custom version of that.

[QUOTE="JB730"]

so turns out that AMD is making a custom version of its Radeon HD GPU for the wii U, with multiple display support (almost confirms that the controllers will use the console hardware remotely, and hence shouldn't be too expensive).

Dibdibdobdobo

So in dumb terms that i can understand. How competant is Radeon HD GPU in this day and age?!

so with the information we have right now (AMD Radeon HD GPU with multi-display technology, at least on par/similar capabilites of 360/PS3), i believe it is safe to conclude that the GPU will at the very minimum be based on a custom version of the AMD Radeon HD 5550 GPU, which smokes the 360.

however, that's based on what AMD currently has out right now.

based on the release date + requirement to lead nintendo into the next generation for years, my guess would be that its going to be a custom version of a Radeon HD 7000 series GPU, probably on the lower end (if not lowest end) of that family. if it is at the lowest end of this family, it should still surpass the capabilities of the 360.

AMD Radeon HD 5550 (320 SPs) smacks AMD Xenos.

AMD Radeon HD 6570M (400 SPs) ~= Radeon HD 5730M (400 SPs) ~= Radeon HD 5570 (400 SPs) Desktop. These GPU models are part of AMD's "TeraScale 2" design.

ronvalencia

great, thanks for the input.

the wii u's GPU should smoke xenos.
