[QUOTE="MFDOOM1983"]This is by far the weirdest quote derail i've ever seen. Going from the hypocrisy of one fanboy groups views to a corporations pocketbook. This is what happens when those 90+ million users hardly use their product on avg.

MFDOOM1983

there is a difference between fanboys on an internet message board, and real life. the market is a better indication of real life, and the market proved this gen that people are just fine with having outdated graphics on their game console.

at the end of the day, the wii attracted the most users by a long shot even with significantly outdated graphics. that proves the point that graphics did not mean much to a lot of gamers out there.

The market you speak of includes ps3,360, wii and pc correct? I'm pretty sure the number of HD platforms sold dwarfs that of wii's marketshare.

if we're talking about the game console market, then the wii brought in the most profit by a very longshot - even when comared to it's competitors combined.

a game console business strategy revolving around nintendo's oudated graphics solution proved to be the best one this gen.

makes sense to do it again, doesn't it?

[QUOTE="MFDOOM1983"]100+ million sales between the hd consoles and pc market says otherwise.MFDOOM1983

at the end of the day, nintendo wii won this generation with the most marketshare in hardware (by a long shot) using outdated graphics. their business generated the most profit by a long shot with it's model of outdated graphics.

having to add up ALL of nintendo's competitors to even come up with a sales numbers similar to nintendo's hardware sales totals (lets not even talk about profit here, something that matters more in terms of business) further verifies my point. thanks.

I see sheep have changed their position on graphics after 5 years of downplaying their importance. CGI tech demo:lol:

the market doesn't lie - and the market proved that graphics didn't mean much at all this gen!

since the wii U controller is a part of the console, and NOT a standalone handheld devcie - this tells me that nintendo plans to have the controller make use of the console's hardware remotely. that means it will not have a lot of the hardware on the controller itself, and hence the cost will be significantly lower than what many here think. this is very different from PS3/PSP connectivity, where there is a redundancy in hardware between the two devices.

[QUOTE="JB730"]

having wii U's hardware only slightly more powerful than the PS3/360 was actually smart for nintendo to do.

we all were crying for more 3rd party support with the wii, but the developers just couldn't sacrifice the resources to make games exclusively for the wii's hardware. now with the wii U having similar hardware, nintendo won't be missing out on 360/ps3 cross platform games. the 360 and ps3 are expected to last years longer, therefore there will be a lot of those games coming. you can bet all 3rd parties will be making ports to the wii U because a) it won't take much resources to create the ports from 360/ps3 versions, and b) they don't have the risk of being outclassed by wii U exclusive titles (which would have been the case if wii U was a lot more powerful).

now the controller, on the other hand, i don't know about. looks bulky, and expensive too. very much influenced by the success of tablets, but will it work? not convinced yet.

Then it turns into another wii once next gen consoles roll out.

chances are that will not be until several years from now, and by then nintendo will have plenty of momentum in terms of 3rd party support (something the wii was obvisouly missing). if the wii U is successfull, safe bet that this 3rd party support will stay strong even when the new systems are released. nintendo will then have accomplished the feat of getting strong 3rd party support - the very biggest critique of it's previous consoles.

i don't think this could have been accomplished had nintendo released a significantly more powerful system today. 3rd parties would have continued on course with creating ps3/360 cross platform games, and would probably make less ports to the wii in fear of having their games outclassed by wii U exclusives that take advantage of the hardware. with the hardware not being significantly more powerful, their ports can now be competitive with all wii U titles, with little effort.

yeah, leave an industry where they have by far the #1 selling console of this generation. leave the market that they are currently market leaders in. discontinue the wii, and don't bother making another console again for no reason.

brilliant.

let's forward this bright idea to nintendo.

price and battery life - two important advantages that nintendo heralded for generation after generation of handhelds

both now at risk with the 3DS

i'm not sure about this one, nintendo.

I see your point. I do. What gamer doesn't want to see the industry grow?
But at what cost? That's the heart of the matter for myself.

That direction is not at all something to accept and be pround of. It's a disgrace actually. It's the erosion of gaming for long term gamers.
See what I'm saying here?
What if we were all playing Atari's right now with motion controls? Would that be enough to make you a happy gamer because "the market" is buying it up?

Conjuration

i see your point in that you want to see progress from console to console

and i don't think we'll haveto worry much about that next gen

to me, the only way nintendo was able to get away with the wii was because they completely revolutionized their user interface - made it something completely new. thats why people wanted it.

i don't think we'll have to worry about the processing power of the wii 2 because this time, nintendo HAS to come up with something upgraded/new, or else who would want to buy it? consumers wouldn't be able to justify their purchase if its the same as the wii.

and with MS in the mix now, who has got motion control down right now, you can bet nintendo will need to significantly improve their hardware this time around - or else they'll be against a console with the same thing they've got, only with better hardware and 3rd party support - not a good situation to be in.

thats unless nintendo pulls off another miracle - like thought controlled gaming or something (and that tech isn't far off!)
