@gotrekfabian: Final Fantasy 10-2 is underrated because the story doesn't measure up to the greatness of its predecessor, but the game itself held up pretty well. The combat was more fast-paced from X, and the lighter tone of the narrative wasn't entirely unwelcome in a Final Fantasy game. Best of all, you had a chance to get a happy ending to the story. (The ending of FF-X was bittersweet.)

This news does not fill me with confidence about the future of Star Wars. They're basically all but admitting that they didn't have a solid idea where to take the story or characters before they started filming. Granted, that's hardly anything new in the history of Star Wars, but not having a plan going forward leads to disaster more often than it does success. Does anyone really think The Empire Strikes Back could happen twice?

Maybe with a new director things will look up. I don't know.

@Tangsta03: News flash, but someone "taking over a role" is exactly the sort of thing people like to see. For someone to care about the role enough and perform it in such a way that people have difficulty picturing anyone else doing it. Harrison Ford as Indiana Jones. Robert Downey Jr. as Iron Man. Johnny Depp as Capn' Jack Sparrow. If any one of these men were unceremoniously replaced in these most iconic of roles after all the work they put into them, they would be understandably upset. Dismissing this behavior as an ego trip on the part of the actor suggests you have much to learn about the acting profession. Not all people are disposable assets.

@lostn: There's no question that alpha FF XIV was terrible, but in retrospect that was probably a good thing. That game represented Square-Enix under Wada's leadership at rock bottom. That was when things started turning around. Lightning Returns I think was already committed to when the company changed course, so that game isn't a reliable predictor of the quality of Square-Enix's future titles.

@lostn: You make a good point. For the expanded game to be compelling, there needs to be character development throughout. From what I have seen of Final Fantasy XV earlier this week, it seems like Square-Enix is taking character development more seriously. We shall see.

@marquestcoleman: I think what they mean is to change perspectives among the main members of the cast, rather than secondary characters like the Turks. The story isn't solely about Cloud. Tifa will play a significant role for sure, and will probably be the central character in the events following Cloud losing his mind. I'd imagine Aerith/Aeris will have her own chapter as well. There's a lot of storytelling opportunities here.

@chipmunkkungfu: Comparing the new game to XIII isn't the wisest marketing move by Square-Enix, but I understand what they're really trying to say. It will be similar to XIII only in the way the story is structured - meaning three complete games instead of one game with a bunch of DLC expansions. Truthfully, FF VII Remake will have NOTHING to do with FF XIII. Let's not let ourselves get distracted.

@ladymulti: I also suspect that part one will take place entirely in Midgar, but that the city and the events therein will be much larger in scope compared to the original game.

@sepsis216: In this case I don't think it can be dismissed to greed. When I think of how they could release a complete remake of Final Fantasy VII in its entirety for the price of a single AAA title, I come up zeroes. In other words, it's not economically feasible. I'm fine with an episodic format if each game comes with a healthy amount of content and we aren't fleeced with DLC.

I think The Last of Us movie is pretty much dead at this point. Maisie Williams might have made a good Ellie two or three years ago, but now I think she has outgrown the part. And from the beginning I was skeptical that anyone but the original cast could have done justice to the characters. Ashley Johnson and Troy Baker gave truly memorable performances that would be hard to duplicate.
