@Rufus_the_rat: Before you compare Peter Jackson to Lucas, perhaps you should read yesterday's article explaining that Jackson had basically no time to storyboard the Hobbit films because he took over as director at the last minute. For Lord of the Rings, Peter Jackson had almost three years for pre-production. What happened with the Hobbit trilogy wasn't his fault, and that the movies turned out as well as they did demonstrates just how good a director he is. If the commentary is to be believed, Peter Jackson was practically "winging it" on the first two films.
George Lucas was excellent at art design, and it showed in all of the Star Wars films to date. Where things went off the rails was when Lucas decided he could be a great storyteller on his own, and that clearly was not his strength.
@mikemurphy80: I very much doubt this will take place in the same universe as JJ Trek. CBS and Paramount have very different ideas of what Star Trek should be. In fact, the endless tug of war between those two entities was one of the main reasons JJ Abrams left the franchise and hopped aboard the Millennium Falcon instead.
@Smosh150: The second season of Universe was actually quite good, and I was very sorry to see the series go just when it was becoming the kind of show it should have been in season 1.
Making this show subscription-only pretty much guarantees it will fail. I am a huge Star Trek fan, but I cannot justify paying a subscription for just one show. I would be better off just waiting for the Blu-ray.
Seriously, this is terrible news for Star Trek fans right out of the gate, and we don't even know if the show itself will be any good. This is just a desperate attempt by CBS to force people to join their subscription service. If CBS thinks they're going to make bank using this kind of business model to revive a beloved franchise, they are dead wrong.
For an amateur short film, this is pretty darn good. It nails the Metroid look and feel.
Personally, I thought the film grain was a nice artistic touch, and some of the special effects are reminiscent of 2001: A Space Odyssey. Dated, but in a good way.
I'm worried that this game will set a precedent in Halo titles that the story doesn't have to be great for a game to sell. One of the things that traditionally separates Halo from Call of Duty is the strength of the main campaign.
This kind of brings back memories of the 32-X add-on for the Sega Genesis. It gave the Genesis more power, but the add-on wasn't well supported, and the games just weren't there. Most people remember it as a placeholder until the Sega Saturn came along.
The only way a "power" PS4 would be viable is if there were new exclusive must-have games that couldn't be played on the standard model - sort of a PS4.5.
