@June-GS: Sorry for the late reply. The Arpeggio ships were basically neon-colored versions of the ships you normally get in the game. They didn't have super powers, otherwise it would have destroyed the game balance. The ships were captained by the girls from the anime. One notable difference was how fires and torpedo hits were animated, looking like something out of the anime, but it was strictly cosmetic.

@June-GS: Arpeggio ships are already in the game, but no longer available for those who don't already have them. I'm not sure why Wargaming ended their relationship with that series.

@gamerboy100: This was with an X-Box 360. I don't know if any games other than Mass Effect 1 were affected, but I wasn't allowed to load my save game without signing in to X-Box Live. Seems likely that other titles have similar gateways.

X-Box Live is now back up. For me at least.

@adkcrazox: Microsoft said it would probably take between 24 to 48 hours to resolve the issue. That means it's serious. Either someone really goofed or Microsoft got hit with a massive DDoS. Remember they were having problems yesterday too, only now the whole service seems to be down.

@gamerboy100: It's bad enough, because the system has to do a security check on any installed DLC to make sure it isn't pirated. Because of that, I can't play Mass Effect 1 on the 360 without starting a completely new game without the DLC. It sucks.

Yeah, it's down for me too. Can't sign in. I was in the middle of a Mass Effect 1 playthrough on the 360, but now I can't even play the game offline because all of my save files include DLC that cannot be verified without being signed into my account.

This is why centralized control is bad. If the central servers go down, the entire service and product line is crippled. That will do far more damage to Microsoft than piracy will, but the higher ups don't seem to understand this.

@Orontes13: Reboots are not automatically bad. Ocean's 11 (with George Clooney) is an example of a reboot done right. It's a question of choosing movies that can be legitimately made better rather than movies that can't. A remake I would like to see happen is 1979's "The Black Hole". That movie can be improved upon in numerous ways, not least of which being the dialogue, along with greater emotional investment in the characters. A remake I would NOT want to see happen (other than Matrix) is Back to the Future. That movie cannot be made better because you cannot replicate the performances of Micheal J. Fox and Christopher Lloyd.

@DETfaninATL: Certainly it's about the money, but not in the way most people probably think. I think this is more about survival than simple greed. Hollywood has put themselves into a corner making ever greater spectacles, investing hundreds of millions of dollars into new film-making technology, and the studios need a return on that investment in order to keep the lights on. That's why they choose "safe" ideas that have proven profitable in the past, failing to understand that that ship has already sailed. The movie studios are in real trouble, and this latest hackneyed reboot proposal is the proof.

If they want to go back to the world of the Matrix, I'm okay with that. Plenty of storytelling opportunities there. But I am absolutely NOT okay with rebooting the original film. That movie was perfect in almost every conceivable way, and the special effects are more than adequate even by today's standards. Any attempt to reboot this movie, especially if the Wachowskis aren't involved, is doomed to be a critical and commercial flop. (See Ghostbusters) You don't mess with perfection.

Reading about this on another site, it seems the primary motivation for this movie being made is financial. They just want to cash in on an established property because they think fans will eat it up. That is all you need to know to understand how this story will end.
