[QUOTE="-RPGamer-"]I find it rather amusing Gonzo blows 1mill an episode for this series. Nothing I've seen makes me think it's work it in all honesty. Avenge father get headband... stop the presses let's blow a mill per episode on this ground breaking direction.

The problem I have with it is that it's just far too unimaginative. I mean yes I know someone is going to quote this and say "Are you kidding they mix future and modern tech. in a Samurai setting. But when I say this I'm referring more so to the stylle and structure. There is a reason why the West has such a hard time making appealing action cartoons for teens and adults while Japan does it effortlessly. This is because Japan understands what animation can do better then what live-action can do and mostly focus's on that. This involves art-stylle, plot, emotion, tone, mood, etc. What the West tends to do is just simply think of an idea for a cool action film an make it into a cartoon (and yes before you say I am aware that this show is from Japan). If you don't understand me then think of it this way. Think of The Simpsons or Family Guy, these are very funny shows. Now take all the scenes from those shows and replace it with live-action real life characters yet keep the jokes, puns, mood, and tone the same.......yeah it's stupid and doesn't make sense. This is pretty much my gripe with Afro Samurai it misses the mark of what makes anime....well anime and when it does try it ends up feeling like a Saturday morning cartoon more so then a show for adults.
Thank you for wasting 1 minute of my life because that was one of the dumbest things I've ever read. Every anime, or cartoon basically can be simplified. Naruto is trying to bring back Sasuke. Fullmetal is trying to find the philosophers stone. Deathnote is simply about power corrupting. Avatar (??) is trying to save the world. And lord knows how many animes/cartoons where the protagonist is trying to save the world (ugh).
Its the encounters, the characters, and the reactions in between that, that make a story a good story, NOT per se the main summary. Becuase like I said ANY story can be over simplified. And while Afro Samurai may be simplicity at its best it still has a few branching interesting tales. (his best friend he had to kill...sounds like most animes out there too...)
Also the animation is TOP NOTCH. Better than most out there. Better than Death Note, Naruto, Bleach, Fullmetal....perhaps even champloo.
Its seems most people dont like afro samurai simply because they are not used to a black protagonist, let alone in an anime. I guarantee if this cartoon was exactly the same, sans a black dude... then people would be raving how amazing the fighting, animation and production values the cartoon had.
The only negative that I could see from the cartoon was its shortness and SLJ doing TWO voices.
