I am looking at the EVGA Nforce 680i for $160 but when I think about it, I am never going to use SLI. I feel that if you spend a lot of money on one video card, then it should run good enough. I am going to be getting an 8800gts btw.Ā Basicly my question is.... since I don't need SLI and am using one PCI-E card, what is a good motherboard for a Core 2 duo 6600 or a AMD high end 64 X2 for games that don't have SLI? I want a good motherboard for games but don't want to pay extra for SLI since I will never use it. Any suggestions?

Thanks

Don't think I hate Vista. I am getting it. Only costs me $10 from my college bookstore. Ā

When the XP and Vista Only discussion pops up people come in defending Vista by saying that they could only use Vista because XP isn't compatible and couldn't run it. That is true but only to a stupid fine point. YOu know why XP isn't compatible and Vista is? Microsoft wants you to buy Vista so they will do anything in their power to entise people to buyt it. You honestly can't think thatĀ a programing company such as Microsoft couldn't figure out a way to get their network and everything to work on XP.

Very simple. They want you to buy Vista. They are dumping all over current XP users. XP Could run it, they are just being very jerkish about these Vista only games expecially since they don't even use DX10.

Another thing. Window Live is a bad idea. It's cool at first but when you think about how they nickle and dime the 360 with stupid little download and such, think of when they start doing that with all your PC games. Everything will cost. They will probably put more restrictions on mods so they can keep track of charging people for new content and maps.

Think of if games like Unreal and Half Life 2 and if they were under windows live only. all those fun and free mods would decrease and be charged.

I loved Windows Live at first but now I just realise that it will eventually be a bad idea where I get nickled and dimed.

It's stupid, if you pay $50 a year then, all content should be free (atleast dirt cheap).

but I'm not buying a new computer! This always happens!! I ask a question.... instead people just tell me to do something else. I'm not spending a bunch of money on a stupid computer! I just want to know if it would be a big plus.

I am dealing with a HP computer that currently has a P4 3ghz processor. I was reading my manuels and found out it said that itĀ is aĀ Socket: 775, Supports Pentium D (Smithfield) up to 3.2 GHz and Pentium4 (Prescott) up to 580 and 670. I was looking at this:

http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/searchtools/item-Details.asp?EdpNo=1424117&sku=CP2-P4-840%20C

What I am wondering is.... would it be worth it for me to upgrade to the PentiumD 840 3.2ghz processor or just keep my P4 3.0ghz? I am planning on playing Crysis and know that it requires a P4 2.8 ghz and am thinking that this could def help my performance. I can't go out and buy a whole brand new comp (getting married and buying a home in just over a year from now) so I am doing what I can to runa pretty good rig with using what I have.

I was also considering getting a 7950gt for $150 but decided to await until Crysis and HL 2 Episode 2 comes out to see which cards run them the best. By that time, I'm hoping that the 8800gts are much cheaper. Thanks for the help.

Also, does theĀ Pent. DĀ 8400 have 64bit capability?

Thanks!!

I don't think so. Should build your own. Will spend less and get more power.

What makes the 7950GT so much better than the 8600GT? It seems that the clock speeds are much better onĀ  the 8600. Plus it has DX10. The only thing the 7950 has over the 8600 is the memory interface. Are there some who think the 8600 is better? Or is it pretty unanimous that the 7950 is the better card? Sorry, I just like the DX10 feature but I guess DX10 isn't worth much if the games run too slow.

It's soo hard to make the choice. I can get either of these cards for $150.

I know I have posted a few times. Thanks Hiryuu for helping me narrow down. I looked at the X1950 and saw it was too expensive. I can get an EVGA 7950GT for $150 or an 8600GT (not GTS) for $185. Which is the better card? what would you say would be the best choice for Crysis?

Thanks
