[QUOTE="1nverted"]A good sniper (In any game) is about protecting his team mates. If protecting ones team mates involves taking out rival snipers, then I don't see what your problem is. Maybe sniping isn't your thing.blues35301

I agree. taking them out is fine, but getting on a server where all that happens is you and other snipers battling is retarded. i know what youre saying but i was referring to the snipers whos kills are like 100% other snipers

I really think that is a problem of the map.. 2fort is a really bad map in my opinion with really only at best 3 areas to snipe.

yeah its my favorite map but not the best to snipe on. sniper is my main class though but i just realized tonight how sick i was of getting on a game where all that happens is snipers killing each other. its like they only peak out to look for other snipers. not once did i see a kill that wasnt me or my 2 fellow sniper teammates.

interesting, because i know in the servers that i play (2fort exclusive), the good snipers tend to move around quite a bit. there's the sewer entrance where they can keep the opposing team at bay for a while. there's the base entrance in which the sniper can come in handy when dealing with camping demos or taking out engineers so they can't sit on their sentries and repair them. and of course, once you deal with an opposing sniper, you can support your team for 20-30 seconds. and there's no one more effective (besides the demo) in playing defense against heavy (or other offensive class)/medic combo or in defending the intelligence at one of the two basement exits. i personally think that 2fort is a great map for good snipers to effectively support the team.

i'm not a good sniper, but when i do play as sniper in tf2, my main goal is to take out the opposing sniper, so that i can have that 20 second window in which to take out other non-snipers. but sometimes, you're dealing with so many snipers that all you can do is neutralize the other snipers; on those days, just neutralizing the opponent is a job well done.

ah, i love jeff green. he was funny as hell, and he really made cgw/gfw worth reading. i wish him nothing but the best.

i just looked up jeff green on wiki, and it looks like he'll be working on the sims at ea. i wonder what he'll be doing, specifically...

OK, so the bottom line is pirating games is never something to be condoned, but with quite a few games never being released in demo form, on what basis do publishers expect people to judge whether a game is worth shelling out no small sum for? Are we to assume all such games are a steming pile of manure? I hate myself for buying Gears of War, for example, and have sworn not to make the same mistake again.jimmyjammer69

that's not something unique to the gaming industry though. you can't try out a 4-star restaurant, for instance. the best you can do is go by reputation or reviews. you can't try out sneakers on a basketball court before buying them. providing a demo is a service (or advertising, depending on how you look at it), not a requirement. if you don't want to make a mistake, the best you can do is not buy games that don't provide demos.

A more accurate comparison would be if a store sold you a bike and it had a lock on it... you decided you wanted a break from the bike and needed more space.. but you could only lock it away with this lock.. unfortunatly this lock only came with 3 keys.. and one broke each time you undid the lock.

Furthermore, every ten days you would have to ride down to the bike store and go "hey guys.. It's me on the bike! don't worry noone else is riding it!"

Meanwhile down the street there is a dude passing out free bikes of the same brand with no lock and no need to ride by for comfirmation.

well, no, because different laws govern different types of property (you don't buy software in the strictest sense; it's not your property in the traditional sense of the legal definition; you can't sell it, for instance, like you could if you buy a tv), so that wouldn't be a more accurate comparison. the bottom line is that piracy = stealing, and ea has the right to protect their property. my analogy wasn't perfect (which is why i deleted it), but it's definitely more applicable than yours in this case.

It used to be if you don't like a product, you just don't buy it. Now the proper response is to steal it? Makes no sense.

mysterylobster

this may be the most intelligent response in this thread.

[QUOTE="smokeydabear076"]I only play games that score 8.5-9.0s on GS. So I'll have to pass on Spore. 8.0 is a horrible score.gahzoo

You are missing out on alot of good games then, the GS score is only 1 person's opinion!

when a guy uses "", i assume he's being sarcastic.

you should too.

thank you... i thought people knew that..

apparently not!

[QUOTE="JnWycliffe"]

so many people here are SOOO independent and don't pay attention to reviews. go rebels~!

i actually do care about reviews, because i like purchasing good games, and i feel that reviews are one of the many things i take into account in making decisions regarding which games to purchase. since stalker: cs is getting only decent reviews, i'm going to wait for what gamers here say about the game before making a decision. if it had gotten great reviews (or even very good reviews), i'd have bought it without hesitation.

GodLovesDead

Reviews are opinionated so their idea of a good game doesn't necessarily mean our idea of a good game. For example, I thought Gears of War was a terrible game. I wouldn't even give it a 5/10. Or Oblivion. Or Bioshock. It has nothing to do with rebellion.

don't take it personally. i'm sure some people are quite genuine in their desire to form their own opinions about games, but i'm equally certain that there are some that simply say this to be kewl.

i for one see nothing wrong with taking reviews into consideration. yes, of course reviews amount to opinions, but some people's opinions can be very informative, and professional reviews tend to be more informative than anything else. the only thing more informative, imo, are demos, but if there aren't any demos around, the next source i'm taking into account are reviews, whether professional or of those by fellow gamers.

i totally agree that gears of war and oblivion suck (though i think bioshock's a good game, all in all), but i'm not taking reviews into consideration to form my opinion; i'm taking reviews into consideration in trying to decide which games to buy, because i'm not going to buy every single game that's released. i have to be selective, since my hard drive can only take so much (and my wallet as well), so i'm going to read reviews and hope that it helps me decide whether or not to purchase a game. sometimes, you find out that games you purchase based on reviews suck, but no system is fool-proof. only way a screening system can be fool-proof is if you happen to only purchase games that are good, and i doubt that there's anyone that hasn't purchased one disappointing dud at least once in their lifetime.
