John1918 Blog

Baseball, Boating, and BooBS. (Thanks to amward2001)

Hello All,

I figured that its time this blog changed...mostly to keep your minds busy on something else other than the last one. A few little things have happened that might be found interesting by some of you out there...poor, poor, people.

Thus far nobody has sent a pm to me about the game I was talking about in the last blog, not even a wild guess. So here is a couple of more clues. "My name is shared by the Grecian word for ruler, and as you battle with the forces of Light and Dark you truly feel as such." And I am feeling generous, so here is part of a screenshot.

Yesterday my little brother had his first t-ball game, and, shockingly, he was one of the few kids who had a clue what was going on. I'm still not sure if I should be proud of him, or just dislike his coach even more...(she didn't even have the kids stretch before the game)...It looks with increasing certainty that next year will see me being a coach, don't congratulate me until after I don't kill any of the kids.

You might have also noticed a distinctive lack of John yesterday, the family is considering buying a pontoon boat, and a dealer had a special event going where they would take you out on the boat and let you test-drive it a bit. So I now sit here with a bit of a sunburn, making it even harder to concentrate.

Weather here has yet again taken itself to another extreme, yesterday it was in the mid eighties, something that really shouldn't happen around now up in the mountains. Then again it still is supposed to rain, something we really need to have happen, within a few days. Mind last week that it snowed...

I'm currently trying to get some of my college work done far ahead of the original schedule because one of my teachers decided to push all the deadlines up a week or two...I happened to not get the email telling me this either, so I got lucky and stumbled across it. I also have an absence of a day during the work week (like the weekend actually stops it  ) that I have to plan ahead for. But its too important of family matter for me to skip over, something to do with a long story about my Grandmother and my extremely manipulative and unloving aunt.

I have also been reminded by the leader of the union that BooBS deserves a place in such a B'ing blog post. It is an off-topic union with a nice community of people who are very friendly, though they may terrify the unitiated...:D But that happens with most unions that have lower numbers of really active posters, and some of my friends have already decided to follow me there...despite my lack of invitations. All interested parties can come here!

Well thats enough rambling for now, after all, I don't want to kill anybody with all the insanity I could post here. :D

-John

T'was the night before the deadline and all through the house...

Hello All,

Yes, I'm doing my newfound "leave it till its due" today. :D Only a couple of algebra problems and a page of notes though so it isn't very bad...not like last time.

So yesterday I went and helped with the little darlings at their baseball practice, and me and my dad were the only reason it really kept going past the first few minutes...the coach was ready to quit by the time they all had hit once. After seeing how "good" she is at coaching I may have to seriously consider becoming a coach myself next year...yes, John the t-ball coach, a thought that is odd on so many levels...my little brother's team also got swapped, he was supposed to be one of the Oakland Athletics, but instead they were stuck as the Florida Marlins...:?

I've also decided that perhaps my hitting of water while thinking of places to go is a sign. After all cruise ships exist for a reason. And Hawaii is a beautiful place. However it still is far off, so anything I think of now is more just possibilities than what I will do. I also don't plan on putting too many details on here, after all, do I really want some wacko from here to stalk me? I'd say no if you were wondering...

Now for a few questions, and a contest thingy.

First of all, have any of you been having problems with the PM system? I've been experiencing quite a few lately...

Secondly, what is a good way to focus your mind, when it keeps slipping off to a certain thing?

And Third, how did you stumble onto my blog?

Now for the contest thingy!  For this one you will pm me your answer, and I will select a person, at random, to look at the answer of. Should you get it wrong I'll do it again and pick another.  Mind that I felt the other question was far too easy, this one should be harder.

"I was created in 1983, in splendorous 8-bit graphics. My unique take on chess prompted many children, but none ever met my success. After my Free Fall from grace I thought it was over, but, perhaps the future, with it's Myriad possibilities, holds a true successor to the throne. What am I?"

When it Rains, it Pours...

 Hello All,

Now the title, "when it rains, it pours" generally describes my life very well. I seldom only face one problem in life, and normally I'm pitted against so many, that taking them one at a time isn't an option. While I still am pitted currently against far too many obstacles right now, I have long since learned to deal with them, and if I didn't have something to face I'd probably get restless.

However, this isn't a ranting blog, this is one about good things. As of late I've been a happier person, less sharp in tongue, more helpful, and happier about doing things in general. I've been listening to more music, lifting my weights more, having better luck in gaming (and still having lots of fun if I lose), and I've actually been getting my rather massive load of work done before the last second (I have literally turned work in online at 11:29 when the deadline is 11:30 allot).

Now I'm supposed to say this is because of less time spent on Gamespot, however saying that would be complete and total bull. I'd like to thank those around me, both on Gamespot and elsewhere, for turning (corrupting) me into a happier, nicer, person. Though I've already thanked, several times, the one person who has really changed how I've been feeling lately. You know who you are!

I'm thinking about the end of the semester and the vacations that are already planned for it, and I'm throwing darts at a map thinking about taking a vacation that will take me very far away for a short time, sans the family. Though it probably won't happen this summer...So far I've managed to hit lots of water, Cuba, the northernmost part of Canada, and the rear end of one of my dogs.

In the vein of traveling off to whoknowswhere land here is a link to a very fitting song on youtube. Link And a backup for glitchspot. :D http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0Yl0aV8xzPU

Apparently I should not spin around ten times before I throw blindly. :D So watch out! Because for all you know I could come to your town, or hit you with the dart. Run while you can!

The mod, for those that are wondering, is coming along so amazingly well I can hardly believe it, and the next update will have some truely mind-blowing models to it. Come to the forums and you can ask questions that might be answered in the next update. I'm the writer of all of them by the way.

Level 20 is passing with astounding speed, with 30 percent already done and gone. Told you I'd race you gamer_girl. Thanks to all my friends, and the people at Kontraband, for helping the evil level pass quickly, especially to amward2001 for bull****ing with me seemingly endlessly. Also I now have an amazing 4050 profile views, who in heck is looking at me so often I don't know, but hope you all enjoy the blog.

On the 22nd, read tomorrow for the west coast, a theater within 40 miles of me will finally be showing the movie 300, so from 12-ish to I'm not sure-ish, so I won't be in if you happen to call on me. Yes it has taken them a darn long time, but I wasn't driving a hundred miles one way to see it.

So, right now, life for me doesn't suck, sure I have allot of things that can improve and that aren't fair, but thats life. I plan on keeping it this way, or improving upon it, for a long time. I'll let you go now, after all I don't want to keep you here forever. :P

Mangled Thoughts

Hello All,

You might have noticed that I uploaded a heck of allot of videos lately, trying to get percentage so level 20 goes fast, I'm not a leveler, but I'm not sure I like the title "metal slime"...

Anyways, I uploaded a really cool video from Blur Studios, it really was great, and it got around 10-20 views over a few days. However, an old spider-man Lego thing got a crazy amount more in just one day...right now it has 779 views!

I'm going to be taking it down and putting the old one up so I can embed it in this blog, maybe then somebody will watch it...

[video=cHdikDuv5b4OuzPW]

I'm also rather concerned about how many people have been here...I don't tag my blogs anymore, therefore they don't show up in searches, however 3819 is allot of views for the blog of a crazy person. :D Mind that you cannot you me as an excuse if you go insane. :P

In the latest craze of cutting down friends lists I eliminated near ten percent of my list, so now I only have 34 friends. The others I had not spoken to in a long time, if ever, so they will not miss me. Now my list is one of the hard to get on ones. You lucky people you.

If you noticed I've been a bit distracted as of late, its a combination of many things, here on Gamespot, other places online, and in the real world, that is making it happen. However its far beyond my power to change most of the things that are doing it, so I'll continued to be distracted for some time now, which means I'll likely forget more things than normal and not be quite as sharp as you all are used to me being.

This is enough random rambling for now, but I might add, or detract, from it later. :D

Lets all laugh at my past...

Hello All,

Remember when I said I had a story with a bit of humor in it for you? Yeah, I completely forgot it...:P Just kidding, I'll tell you it and see if you get a chuckle at the absurdity of it. I'm also going to follow up with some unrelated questions.

Well lets see, this rather odd happening went down when I was in the sixth grade...back when I was in a religious school. The students were out at one of those merry-go-round things (that are now banned at most schools), and I was there because I was the only one capable of spinning it fast enough to throw people off. (always fun :D) I made a comment at the new guy that apparently offended him and he jumped off. (while it was going darn fast)

He picked himself up off the ground and pulled out a knife. (here I must interject, I call it a knife merely because that is what the manufacturer calls it, it was about 1-1.5 inches long in the blade, not a knife in my thoughts) He then wanted me to pull mine so we could have a good, old, knife-fight. :?

Now for the funny part, how it looked. I've never been small, and back then I was a good 5' 5'' and probably 150+ pounds. Now this little bugger who wanted to fight me was probably 3 and a half to four feet tall, and around 60-80 pounds. At this point in time try to picture it. I mean, this was basically David and Goliath, except David was psychotic and constantly wired...

Now, I never, unless by accident, brought my knife to school and he was rather surprised at this and kind of looked lost when I told him...however he still wanted to cut me. I was now plagued by choices. I could have struck him first, my reach was way bigger than his, even with the knife. I could have waited for him to slash and then beat the **** out of him. Or I could have talked him down.

Now I heavily disliked this guy, for many reasons, so I really did want to beat the tar out of him, but I remembered something from my past...When two people of such different size fight the big guy cannot win. If he wins it turns into, "That big guy bullied the little one." and if he loses, "That big guy got his *** handed to him." Therefore I did the sensible thing and talked him out of it. However, don't think I didn't get to whack the little freak, we played tackle football (American kind) later on, and he ended up on the other team.

 Now some completely unrelated questions.

 1. Why would a person wake up feeling like somebody kicked them hard in the chest?

 2. Why is it so surprising to people when I hold a door open for a woman.

 3. is different, its an opinion. I keep being called sweet on here by several different people. I would like a show of virtual hands of your opinion so I can prove them wrong.

Yes this is a random pile of junk, now answer the questions. :P

A Wonderful Start

Hello All,

I originally was going to share with you all a story from my past that I was reminded of, roundaboutly, yesterday. While a funny story to me I decided to share the start to my day with you. :D

My string of "luck" started last night around 10:40. I had just turned off the computer, and I could swear that I was forgetting something. :? I stared at the wall for a few minutes thinking about what it could be and then I had a small "Oh, ****..." moment.

You see, monday directly proceeds Tuesday, and on Tuesdays I get up around 6:30 to go to an Algebra class. While it was not exceedingly late for a normal day, it was getting late for a day before Algebra, and I nearly forgot to set my alarm...the only reason I would have woken up today.

So I ran around, got ready for bed and fell asleep some time between 12 and 1 in the morning. Barring some nightmares, waking up for about a half an hour at three, and then hearing *BEEP BEEP BEEP* far too soon, my night wasn't bad. :D

For breakfast I decided to have a pastry that was laying around in the kitchen...that turned out to be a bad idea as it had apparently gone bad...have a nasty taste in my mouth, and a hole in my belly, I started the 35-40 minute drive to school. I was half asleep for the first half of class, and for the second half the pastry, the part I swallowed, nearly made me vomit...which would have been oh so fun since I own my 90 dollar math book...

Coming back home I nearly stopped to chum the road several times, but I managed to keep it down, and now it feels partly better. Everyone who has had a day today that was better than this, be happy, everyone who has had a worse day, you have my sorrow.

                                                                         -John

Yes, umm, it seemed like the time for a new blog...

Hello All,

This is at least the second time I've re-written this blog, I just haven't been able to get it right...

I had a direction I was going to take this blog in, but a combination of forgetfulness and changing things in my head has made me scrap my original idea. However it is plain that I could use a new entry for all the utterly crazy people who read this...

I guess I'll just start with rambling, and see where that takes me, though the last time I did this I went into something that I'm not even going to blog about.

I started today off with a rousing round of report generation for my crazy teacher, with some of the most boring business related subjects yet. Those took me a long time because of how UNGODLY boring the subject was, I'm a good writer, but only if I give a damn..

Then I ended up mucking around online, and doing a few other things for the rest of the day. After the better portion of the day had passed, and evening had come on, I started in on a match of Dark Crusade with a few buddies. Shockingly my side wiped the other guys darn quickly, and I earned a new respect for music in my matches. You see I've been using songs to get my blood running before DC lately, and its improved my performance greatly, thank you youtube and the Eagles.

After this I've gotten quite lost for the rest of the night, I ate dinner and then started to follow my plans, but I've just been drifting along since I got online...

Now we meet the akward point, the point where I started to write this blog. I'm not sure what I'll do with the rest of tonight. I do have a secret thing I'm planning, but the only person that will find out what it is, is the person I'm doing it for.

O' Take Me Out To The Ballgame...

 Hello All,

As a few of you might know I'm not a child person. I can't stand my little brother for long periods of time, and many little kids look like monsters to me...Because of this, a recent offer I am in the process of making is even more odd. :o

My little brother has started T-ball, baseball when the ball sits on a stick (as little kids can't hit a zogging moving ball). His coach is a woman who knows VERY little about baseball. Because of the "reports" I've heard from my parents about how great she is at coaching I've offered to lend my aid for their practices.

I'm not great at baseball, I don't watch it very often, and I haven't played for awhile now, but at least I know what to do...like teaching the kids to catch balls rolling on the ground (90% of t-ball hits and throws).

Why am I doing this? Good question! I want his team to NOT get floored by one with an overbearing coach, I want the kids to actually learn a little bit about playing ball, and I feel her teaching is a mockery of the great national pasttime of baseball.

So, because of this, I might be spending even more time around five-year-olds. :|  But at least it should be good exercise.

New Bloggish Thing

 Hello All,

Not much new news today, at least in my life, but I do have a little something to share.

Apparently I have had a "space" page because of MSN for some time now. I decided to possibly use it for something, just not sure what yet. At the very least it gives me a fallback if I get banned from GS. :D

You can find it here, for what it's worth.

 http://john191819.spaces.live.com

It's where you will find me when I run out of continues on Gamespot.

I would also like to personally curse the moderators and administrators that banned g-stuart from gamespot. He seemed a nice young man, and yet he was disposed of by the cruel things.

Epic Commander Mod Update

Hello All, I finally penned this update yesterday for the mod. Hope you enjoy.

State of the Mod Address

The Epic Commander Mod, while at times silent, has made astounding leaps and bounds from the last full update that was released. When we last left our team we were still firmly grounded in the, ifs, ands, and whys of the mod making process, but now we have begun to move on into a territory many mods do not reach, the territory of results!

Mind most of the models in these pictures have already had much more work done on them by the time this update was ready.
Firstly we now have formed an international team of modders, all with a variety of pasts and reasons to join the mod. Let me introduce them, briefly, in the order they joined. Obviously Seagoon, our leader, and myself, John1918, the PR dude, were the first two on the team. However at that time there was little that warranted the term.

One of Seagoon's many early models, this one of the Chimera.

Early on we were approached by a large number of candidates, all of whom had to pass rigorous inspection from both Seagoon and myself in order to join the team. The first person to meet our high standards was Cultrarius, with the first of our finished models. While his first production was not very exceptional, his second was a very high-quality model.

Cultrarius' Baneblade model.

Our second team member was recruited not to produce work for the mod. Cagarner was instead recruited because of his exceptional skill at making both art for web pages and the web pages themselves. He is responsible for the current work being done behind the scenes to ready an entire website for our use. Not only is he skilled with web design, he has also proven to be a great asset to the team in his creation of high-quality models.

The Earthshaker emplacement, lovingly crafted by the aforementioned modeler.

Our third, and for the moment, last official team member is Diablo_sv21. While originally viewed in our assessments as another modeler, he also has great skill in texturing, coding, and other, all encompassing, modding knowledge.

Scott's early Leman Russ

We currently have several people performing their part of the application process, and they are in various stages of completion. If you are interested in helping you can contact Seagoon, or myself, on the GPG forums, the official forums, or you can email me directly at concerned_citizen1918 [at] hotmail.com Do not be afraid to contact us, we are both more than happy to answer any questions about applying yourself, and I for one check my mail very nearly daily. We especially are looking for animators and texture artists, but we are interested in everyone who is interested in us.

For quite some time now we have used the GPG forums as our base of operations, however, in light of the great usefulness of official forums, I have created our new forums at http://z6.invisionfree.com/Epic_Commander_Mod/ Here you can find new releases of information; talk about the mod, Warhammer, and Epic in general; ask questions and get answers; and see releases of graphics from the mod, ranging from renders and WIPS to full screenshots.

Come and join us, it lets us know that the community is interested, and it lets us get your feedback concerning the direction of the mod. I also have several plans to get the community involved in the shaping of the mod, come join us and you can help us to mold the future of modding itself!

-The Epic Commander Team

(P.S. This is a work in progress and all contents and subjects may, and probably will, change. It's not concrete till you have your hands on it.)
