o

that makes sense

And if I remember correctly, Senator Obama was one of those who voted against the 'illegal' Iraq war.

He now wants to strike Syria with no UN legal backing.

Well thank god he's not senator anymore because then it would get awkward.

It does not follow from your line of reasoning that the US is hypocritical WRT legality.

and that's sad b/c it is something p.easy to do

coolbeans90

Many democrats who voted against the Iraq war said it was 'illegal' when there was actually a UN mandate to go because Saddam broke a UN resolution.

Those same democrats are going along with Obama's strike and there is no legal backing behind it terms of the UN.

That's called hypocrisy.

That is, like, probably the nicest way you could put it.

coolbeans90

The point is Assad didn't violate any international law. And many of those who were against the Iraq war are now in favor of this attack. Saddam actually violated UN resolutions by refusing chemical weapons inspectors. Assad violated no international law.

American political hypocrisy at its finest.

Oh and the guy pushing for the strike is John 'anti-war activist' Kerry.

[QUOTE="Person0"][QUOTE="KC_Hokie"] Yes and no. Only illegal if you signed the treaty involving white phosphorus. You can only violate a treaty if you sign it.

That's why Assad didn't break any international laws by using chemical weapons....never signed the treaty.

Sure but not any laws. That's why Obama and his people are pushing this as a 'moral' thing and Pelosi said it was the "world's red line". They can't make it a legal issue.

How do you that those people are actually serving military members?

I would so laugh if they turned out to be Syrian gov't propaganda vids.

On the otherhand, there seems to be an astonishing number of people who actually believe that the US is going to deploy ground forces in Syria, so I guess I can believe that there actually are military members that are this stupid.

SUD123456
If we get involved this whole thing escalates. Then it will take hundreds if not thousands of troops to secure all of Syria's chemical weapons after the regime falls.

Not true in either case. Think you all are thinking of white phosphorus.

Isn't it illegal to use that?

Nope. If you don't sign the treaty it's not.

That's why Assad technically didn't violate UN treaty either. Never signed the treaty.

[QUOTE="killzowned24"][QUOTE="NoSpeakyEnglish"] While that is horrifying, I find it disgusting that the U.S. is saying that using chemical weapons is "wrong" when the U.S. itself has used chemical weapons in Iraq. sherman-tank1

BS. we used nothing like what was used in this case which is illegal.

Good for them. I can only see this Syria thing escalating if Obama decides to attack.
