[QUOTE="gameguy6700"]Thing is, college is useless if you're not going for one of the following careers/majors: - Business - Law - Medicine - Engineering - Programming - Science And keep in mind that half of those (law, medicine, and science) are virtually inaccessible until you get a professional degree or PhD. Undergrad is vastly overrated, mostly thanks to the fact that back in the 60s, 70s, and early 80s having a bachelor's degree in ANYTHING made you competitive for most jobs. These days employers actually want your degree and experience to be relevant, and as a result college is no longer useful to most people. Unfortunately our economy is also set up in a way that you basically get two general options for jobs: Easy to find dead-end, low paying jobs or hard to find, extremely competitive jobs with good opportunities and pay, so really if you aren't interested in/good at the above six things you're pretty much SOL.

. No one political persuasion can ever be called by all as the one that makes sense. Abd modern liberals arn't are about freedoms like the defenition might say. That'd be Libertarian.

mingmao3046
Modern libertarians aren't for freedoms either. Look at Ron Paul.

you always say this but the only example you give is abortion, and even if some states banned abortion you could just go to another state. ron paul is pro freedom

That just means people will be less happy

Liberal? No. They tend to want to restrict my freedom by making me pay taxes to provide for things that individuals should provide for themselves. Moderate is the way to go.....LJS9502_basic
More freedoms make people less happy....

[QUOTE="SpartanMSU"]

The fact that you view people in this country based on race is, quite honestly, disgusting. Aren't we supposed to be past that? Aren't we supposed to look at people by the content of their character? Isn't this a society based on indvidualism and protecting the indvidual?

EntropyWins

1) I find the fact that you think the United States government can be racist against blacks (especially considering the severity of slavery) for hundreds of years (they have been racist longer than they haven't been) and then not have to do anything to help those who they commited crimes against absolutely appalling.

2) We can't be past that because society is still feeling the affects of this extended, institutionalized racism today. You can't just give them the lable of "free" (which didn't really happen until 40 years ago) and expect the problem to go away. That is like beating a man within an inch of his life and then instead of taking him to the hospital to heal, you leave him on the side of the road and say he should just be thankful you stopped beating him.

3) No, you like to pretend this is a society based on individualism, but the fact that there was a provision in our original constitution claiming that blacks only counted for 3/4 of a person seems to say otherwise.

1) Everybody who was ever a slave, a slave owner, or alive in the era where slavery was legal is dead, as is their children and grandchildren. You are advocating rewarding or punishing people who had nothing to do with it. 2) And white people who are in hard times don't count for anything right? Black people have basically had 50 years of equality since the racial equality movement, and honestly if you haven't improved yourself over 50+ years, that's on you. 3) It was 2/3, and again this was the past, we learned from our mistakes, why pretend that we didn't?

An extremist of any kind is as annoying/ dangerous as the next. Their beleifs don't matter.

Militant atheists didn't destroy the world trade center, nor have they ever taken part in any kind of extreme violence....

Never mentioned militant atheism.

That would be the extremists of atheism....

[QUOTE="forgot_it"]Didn't read the entire thread because it's clear religious arguments will never conclude. I agree with the opening post for the most part though, there are good Athiests (i.e. You do your own thing and I'll do mine) and there are bad Athiests (i.e. All religious people are terrorists who are better off dead)...just like there are good religious people (i.e. You do your own thing and I'll do mine) and there are bad religious people (i.e. Everyone who doesn't believe what I do are better off dead). I wish we could all get along peacefully but it's clear that there are people who wont let that happen, especially in the comments section of anything that's even vaguely related to religion :P.Mordred19

I really do want to know who is saying that.

I think in order to justify personal thoughts, people get it in their head that people on the opposing side are thinking thoughts that are just as bad, with or without justification.
