@mogan: There is so much character development and story that is told in the gameplay and not in cutscenes, which people will definitely miss if they just watch cutscenes on youtube. I doubt that haters are willing to dedicate 30 hours to a game just so they can rip on it. Besides, it might change their opinion and they don't want that. I fully hated Abby after Ellie's Day 3 and by the end of Abby's Day 3, I lightweight wanted to kill Ellie (sorta) in the theater. I felt where Abby was coming from, especially since she basically had no idea who or why all her friends were being killed. As a player, we know everything about these 2 characters, but they don't actually know anything about each other which is why they're so hellbent on revenge and kept escalating the situations. I love talking about the game with people who are willing to be open-minded but it's tough on the internet.
@vagabond2k: Yeah I didn't like Shadow of the Tomb Raider either. I'd play TLOU2 12 times before I play that game again once. The story was just dull and uninteresting, especially compared to the first 2. And I'm a sucker for treasure hunting games with lots of mythology. Even if I hate the decisions of TLOU2 (which I don't) it just had so much heart, emotion, and passion in the performances and the worldbuilding is absolutely unmatched (for a non-RPG).
@gleencross: It must suck to be so cynical about everything. You probably don't like "misery porn" because you seem pretty miserable. I wouldn't wanna play TLOU2 if I was depressed either. I'd seek help.
@boshlonavish: All the ND employees said they love working there... except when crunch hits and then its rough. That's nothing surprising. CDPR and Rockstar are the same way.
@laurenriley3332: Yeah, I don't know what it was about R3 but I didn't like that game at all. I thought 2 was the best and the MP/coop was the best of its era imo.
@monkeyporn: I'm glad they didn't go the safe route because what we got was great and unique. Playing as Abby was a watershed moment because I did not want to like her but by the end I couldn't help but like her, almost more than Ellie since she went so far off the deep end.
@gleencross: I can disprove practically everything you said but I just don't have the energy anymore. You likely won't listen to me anyways. Your mind is set. I played it twice and enjoyed it even more the second time (mostly because Survivor is brutally satisfying). You didn't like it. Let's both just move on.
And just so you know, every piece of media has had some part of it taken from a previous work. It's not plagiarism if it just has some similar plot elements. TLOU1 was a lot more like The Road if anything, which ND mentioned up front as a strong inspiration. You could apply that logic to literally any movie ever made, which means that you should theoretically (if your logic is not biased) not be able to enjoy anything at face value.
