Interpreting scientific reports is a skill that must be learnt and I think what is happening here is people are misinterpreting the "could desensitise" quote from the report. I'd have to read the whole report to get a better idea of what they meant by the quote but from their finding I sincerely doubt meant "violent games can desensitise".

I agree that the gameplay didn't change much but I honestly don't believe it should have. People who buy a sequel are expecting the game to basically feel the same but with slight improvements. Bungie did this quite well.

Halo 2 - Matchmaking and more flexible ally AI (Although the AI was never great)
Halo 3 - Forge and Theatre
ODST - Firefight
Reach - Didn't revolutionise but did improve upon existing game aspects

I must admit I'm pretty burnt out on Halo but I don't think it's fair to put it down for not changing core game mechanics, if they did then it wouldn't be Halo anymore. If Destiny fails to bring in it's own mechanics then I feel such accusations are fair.

@JRLennis "If you regulate one aspect of free speech, you invariably put yourself in a position to regulate all aspects of free speech."

This is the kind of brainwashing that is keeping the US back. Basically every other country in the world has clauses to the right to freedom of speech and these countries haven't become authoritarian dictatorships. The constitution was written over 200 years ago, the world has changed too much to still consider it gospel.

The Westboro Baptist Church have the right to spread hate speech thanks to the US constitution, the Paparazzi have the right to photograph non-consenting children thanks to the US constitution. These are just things that have cropped up in the local media in the last couple of weeks, there many other example too.

More harm than good is coming from having such a black and white view on constitutional freedoms and America will be a better place once people come to realise this.

In the past scanning your own character into the game has looked awful, it'll be interesting to see if next gen technology can improve upon it.

@ClaudiusCaesar I'd argue that WoW is a bigger rip off. Other MMOs with the same subscription fee claim they only need 500 000 subscribers to be profitable, you'd think having 20x that would mean that you could lower the subscription fee or make the expansions free. Then again why would they do this? They're in this industry to make money and I expect them to price things in a way that maximises profit. It's the same for Microsoft.

@telaros "Always online and a required camera? Call me paranoid, but that still sounds like a stupid idea."

No more naked gaming for you.

I agree with you about the single player games. Ever since the 360 came out I've noticed the toll that having a multiplayer component has had on games campaigns. Unfortunately gamers want too much. How often have you seen someone on this forum say "If I pay $60 for a game I expect X and Y". Stop being selfish people, be happy with a games that does something great rather than a game that does lots of stuff. Personally I'd prefer a 12+ hour campaign over a 6 hour campaign and multiplayer component I won't play. Surely the reverse is true too. Wouldn't you multiplayer gamers prefer twice as many maps than a campaign you might play once?

Dianne could you please point me to the reputable scientific paper that supports this claim? What's that, you can't? This is just your own, unfounded opinion. Well by all means base your political policies on what you think rather than what people smarter than you know, it's what the American people would want.

@golden_ashen @BradPoynor @MALMSTEEN4774 Some people, unfortunately we are the minority, play Halo for the storyline. I tried to play the MW2 campaign but found the story that I played to be shallow and the playing of it to be a chore. My point is there are Halo players who will go out and buy other games the aren't just multiplayer FPS.

This seems rather unlikely but then again it wouldn't be the first time a company like Microsoft showed just how out of touch they are with the consumer. I'd personally prefer not to pay as much and get the console without Kinect and while always online wouldn't be a deal breaker for me it could get annoying. It would add a con for the Xbox in the Xbox v PS4 stakes.
