Revenge of The Fallen(s) [UPDATED]

Today I got the game AND I saw the movie. First, I'll discuss the latter.

It was terrific. What can I say, Bay has nailed the balance between everyday humor and merciless action. The botfights are so amazing that I literally had my jaw open everytime Optimus ripped someone's face(Literally, again) off(And what's with him becoming so cruel suddenly, anyway?), Devastator was just unbelievable(No ball jokes), and all those different factions they used for the film was also impressive: Apart from standard transformers, we get a Pretender, Insecticons, Constructicons, animal-like decepticons(Skorponok and Ravage), one Seeker, a handful of kitchenbots from hell, and flashbacks showing the times of ancient Primes. Bay also listened to fans and introduced the long-awaited Soundwave as a satellite. The action was just nonstop; The prologue featured an intense battle in Shanghai with Demolishor and Sideways, the famed forest fight left crowds cheering in the cinema, and the last battle would have made my head hurt if it wasn't so awesome. A popcorn movie, 130%. Origins: Wolverine and Salvation are not even close to the level TF2 got to.

About the game, well, my lousy internet had problems with the multiplayer, which is weird really. Insatead on working on it I just started a campaign(I was having an after-hype from the movie). The controls were a little hard on learning, but soon enough it became clear that the game deserved it's 7.5 from Gamespot and that it's definitely better than the first one. No details yet, as I'm planning on writing a review as soon as I complete the Autobot campaign(Decepticons are beaten already).

From other news, I succesfully passed my English test(30/30; Not trying to be modest, but it wasn't even as hard as I expected. Questions were overwhelming in numbers but easy(Some from literature, most purely grammatical). There was an essay to write at the end, we even got a few choices of the topic.

Update: Review posted.

My apologies and a new system for my reviews

About apologies, well, it's concerning my Prototype review where I had severe grammar mistakes in the last few paragraphs, sorry for that one guys :| I'll do my best to correct them as soon as I can!

And I've also come up with a new way of posting reviews. In the union, my reviews will be posted in full length, accompanied with my own screenshots and a general chart noting the overall quality of visuals, audio, gameplay, storyline, interface and controls, and replay value. Also, the link to the contribution will be gone, as the post will basically provide even more info. I'm not planning on re-making any of my older reviews like this, but all my new ones will bear the new formula. I'll probably post my Mass Effect review in a week or so, I'll play through it one more time, capture a few screens and freshen the already-written text.

It is here!

The review for Prototype :D I have KILLED myself over playing it. A completely gorgeous game, I was so freaked I had to skip a dozen or so side-missions, but still managed to get the most out of it and write a decent review, I think. As soon as it gets posted I'll contribute it to the Union, who obviously think I've abandoned them. Well, sorry guys, but exams are almost over, only English left(Piece of cake), so I can return to my normal routine. :|

And now there's my brother crawling on his knees asking me to buy the new Transformers game when it comes out. He is a huge fan(7 years old, but still :D), and I just don't know. Buying the first one was probably the greatest mistake in my life, currently I'm trying to find arguments but the kid's unshakable. Advice anyone? :S

Update

Been a long time since I was to the site, exams are eating my time... so I'm just posting to let you guys know that I'm alive :D

Got Prototype today, gonna finish studying and start playing right on, probably 3-4 hours... I'm crazed about it. A review coming as soon as I finish the main storyline!

Left 4 Dead Review

A game I reinstalled a while ago, just to replay the campaign. God,if only I had time for the multiplayer. It odd really, how I found the time to review something amidst the horrid exams. But there you are, Left 4 Dead review.

And I guess I'll recover somehow from my inactivity at the union. I'll try to post a review per two or three days, before the exams are over(That's 2 more weeks). So sorry again.

Non-gaming news: I went to Terminator: Salvation yesterday. Well, what can I say, it was spectacular, but usually for formulating an opinion of a cinema-film I need a day or two. So that's what I can say: McG tried, he really tried to bring back all of the key trademarks of the series, while doing a complex mix of characters and quality action. I understand why most of the fans disliked the movie, the spirit of The Terminator is gone. Don't listen to the PR, the first movie is actually something this film is very far from. It's hollywood-ish, 100%. However, it left a great base for sequels, real sequels that are likely to come if the box office doesn't continue dropping. So good luck next time, McG.

P.S. But I liked it. Hush-hush....

General E3 thoughts and other stuff

So everyone has a blog post about E3, I may be a little late but I guess 2 days past and 2 days left is a nice time to actually discuss what have we seen and what yet awaits us.

The biggest thrill for me, personally, was Assassin's Creed II. Yes, the core gameplay remains unchanged, even the nuances(Bench-kill, Haystack-kill, Double-kill, all kinds of kills) are not that impressive. It's just that seeing one of the most atmospheric games getting a new worthy setting is somehow pleasant. The flying sequences were great, really, nicely balanced by the fires, but this way or another they seem scripted. Let's hope we get to glide in freeroam mode.

Another surprise was that Ubisoft actually seems to care about Splinter Cell: Conviction, and they have actually worked hard on re-working the game. The gameplay is fresh, new fisher looks less beggar more badass, but still, the older concept was somehow more original, and living the life of a criminal suspect hiding in the street would have been more interesting, personal opinion.

Enough about Ubisoft. Sony did a Wowed thing announcing MGS for the Box. It will severely impact PS3, that's obvious, but things like Gran Turismo, Uncharted and LittleBigPlanet are always there to help. To be honest, I'm not really into console gaming, so that's basically all that was interesting for me in there. Well, almost.

Speaking of GT, Racing games did their thing. Shift, Forza 3, Gran Turismo 5 and Gran Turismo PSP, were great. All in their right places, at last. And absolutely all of them looking promising. Forza 3 needs a little bit more to get to GT-s level, but witht he right angle of approach from the devs, just enough innovations and originality can grant a steady Xbox 360-exclusive status.

The cinematic debuts we saw, like ACII or Star Wars: The Old Republic really lit my interest. I would like to separately note their excellence.

A sudden announce, Left4Dead 2, was truly sudden and that's it. The game was not freshened, or added to. I'm scared to say but Valve may have been right to not making sequels(almost). The game looks like an outdated LFD mod, no offence. Time will tell the truth.

I'm really looking forward to the final part of the conference, I'm sure some smarter devs have the best kept for the last. I can't really make accurate predictions, I just hope for sequels like Portal 2, and strange to hear this from me but some more Indie games would be great. Those things are the top stuff these days.

About electronics, the PSP Go! was a great announce, at last a handheld I might get: It looks cool, it has an online marketplace, the most powerful portable visuals and my favourite slider design. Looking forward!

Now I know this isn't much, I don't really remember everything I've watched in E3 coverages, if I remember something important I'll edit this entry.

And now some "Myself" updates. The bad news: Mass Effect review is delayed, yet again(Call me GSG, but it's the honest truth) because I decided to get that 2-disc edition, and include Bring Down The Sky in the review. No offence guys, just need some time ;)

And the pleasant surprise, the E3 Day 2 emblem. I just tuned in for a few minutes, wanted to get a glimpse. Thanks to Gamespot for the generous award!

About the union and my inactivity for the last few days, sorry guys. Really. It's the damn exams, they'll be over in a few week and I'll get back to systematic contributions by that time.

My First Two Videos

And no, unfortunately not video reviews yet. I posted the gameplay vids of the final boss battle from X-Men Origins: Wolverine, the showdown with Deadpool. Seriously, what was hard in that? The stats with which I was playing are visible at the start, but just in case I was level 36, with 2 lvl2 and 1 lvl3 mutagens, X-force suit etc, but those advantages play little role actually. Just block him, and counterattack. It devastates his health. And some other tricks, which you can see in the vids themselves.

Now, since I'm a free member(Not for long I hope), I had to compress the vids so that they were no bigger than 100MB. And that was hard, so expect crappy quality. And since my PC is also utter crap, in the second vid there's a slight lag for thefirst 30 seconds or so. If you're still reading, feel free to watch and comment.

Oh I know I know, the Mass Effect review. Well, I'm still working on it, hopefully I'll find some time soon to just finish it and then make corrections, which will take some hours, which are hard to find. So no more false promises, but it will be posted. :)

My Review Guide

Okay, time for my first contribution to the Reviewers Union. Well, not the first technically, as all my reviews will be posted there(When the poll ends), but all the same I wanted to do something now. So I wrote a review guide, describing my writing technique, you can check it out here. Be sure to comment this one, because it's my first tutorial-ish work so far. And that means I'm interested... if it was worth it :D

Also, I've almost finished my Mass Effect review, looks still bad in terms of size(Way to big), but my compression is progressing. I need to write another few paragraphs about presentation and the conclusion, then I'll shorten it and eventually it'll see light someday soon.

Great things tend to happen lately.

So, my long anticipated Reviewers' Union is up, and I hope it will become popular and correct the mistake of the Reviewers Legion. I really look forward to how things will unfold, I'll contribute my every single review to you guys :D And thanks again to SGTiD1NG0, HE made it happen.

Also, I'm level 10, that's kind of cool. Round number. Just thought I would write this. Oh, and I may start making video reviews now that I can upload them. I'll think about that.

And last but not the least, I started my Mass Effect review yesterday, and damn it's hard. I remember writing the one for Transformers in a few minutes. But ME... I just can't seem to squeeze everything in a few paragraphs. Formulating the story aspect of my review was hard, but the hardest is probably yet to come... Lets hope it doesn't come up as gigantic and stupid as the one I wrote for Fallout 3.

Expect it anytime tomorrow or the day after tomorrow.
