PS3 Methodology:

I look at GameSpot first. If it gets a good score, it's worth a buy. If not, I go to IGN, see what they have to say. IGN inevitably loves it. I look on metacritic, see what other people thought, buy it if it's good.

Definitely IGN. Once you get your eyes past the hideous design, you see a well-written 5 page review with a proper analysis, scores given in increments of 0.1, and justification of those scores.

I remember when all review sites were like this.

GameSpot users have a higher average IQ than metacritic. Hooray! :D

MGS4 is like the only PS3 exclusive which has a higher GameSpot score than Metascore. I'll leave it at that.

Even EUROGAMER gave it higher than GameSpot.

The scoring system needs work. You write a great, detailed review that basically screams 9/10 and then give it a 7.5. Same with Tools of Destruction.

I mean, giving TOD a 7.5 and giving Braid a 9.5. Do you know what that means? It means:

Braid is an excellent game with some minor bugs which can easily be overlooked and a small thing missing

Tools of Destruction is a good game, with the positives slightly outweighing the negatives.

Who agrees with these?

Well, I got a reply. This is quoted from the email:

So I've paid for a 40GB PS3 and gotten a 26GB?

It's the second best selling PS3 game- what do you expect?

If one in 10,000 people with the game were playing at the same time, there would be around 350 people online. I'm sure it's the same for GTA4.

And I am dismissing World at War for two reasons:

1) Treyarch

The only COD they made (COD3) got the lowest GameSpot score of the lot.

2) Most importantly, it's a WORLD WAR 2 FPS! Have they not learnt their lesson? COD4 was the only game in the series not set in WWII, and look how good it was! How everyone liked it! The World War 2 genre is over. It's too limiting, to old-fashioned, too overdone!

I'll wait for COD6 when IW comes back. I doubt they'll make it a WW2 game.

The words "Call of Duty" used to make me cringe. They don't anymore solely because of Modern Warfare. It's also worth noting that on PS3 and 360 combined, COD4 sold 10 million copies. That's more than twice the total number of COD3 sales.

MGS4 is definitely one of the best (if not the best) looking games this generation, so that's one

Uncharted has amazing graphics

DMC4 has mind-blowing visual design but the game isn't great. Better graphics than Sigma, but worse gameplay.

Oblivion looks amazing, amazing game as well.

Lair looks incredible but it is an awful game. Not recommended.

Burnout Paradise has really good graphics but only buy if you like the series.

Basically, 80% of the games on PS3 look amazing. MGS4, Oblivion and Uncharted are among the best of the best.

Big Boss would own Solid Snake. He invented CQC!

Yes, Snake won twice, but... he was cheating...

I would hate it and call it another awful kiddy game.

It's not a system seller, it's just a game for people who own the system.
