The Dreamcast became a cult hit because it had a plethora of awesome titles that fans could still discover way after the system's demise. The Gamecube, you can probably name all the "Must Have" titles on one hand.[QUOTE="Hulabaloza"]The DC is a cult hit in large part cause it's so hackable and it's very accessible for people to develop their own stuff for it - homebrew. It's based on WinCE and executable disks can be burned on a standard CD burner. The Gamecube is going to fade to obscurity pretty quick. The original XBOX is close behind it.snickerscd
That, and the DC has a plethora of awesome titles, that fans could still explore after the system's demise, as opposed to the Cube, which sadly didn't have the kind of titles it needed.

Yeah, but 60% of the Dreamcast's best titles were released for Gamecube.

(Sonic Adventure 1&2, Phantasy Star Online, Skies of Arcadia Legends, Resident Evil: Code Veronica, Crazy Taxi, Evolution Worlds....and so on)

I agree. Simply because I have most of these games and I play them on my Gameboy Player on my Gamecube. Combine this library with the Gamecube's library, and you have enough decent games to last a lifetime.

My favorite is the Gamecube, but I'm surprised more people didn't pick the NES. Guess I'm too old.

Lots of people chose the SNES. I loved that system, but I was bored for most of it's life. After launch was great, but late 1992 and most of 1993 was a horribly dead time for the SNES. Most of 1994 was the same up until the fall. It's a great system...but if you were there, you spent most of your time waiting for new releases.

Cult hit? I'm not so sure. It was the massive support that the the DC still had in Japan when Sega announced it's intention to leave the console market that caused Japanese support long after it's demise. In Japan, the plug was pulled on the Gamecube Fall 2005. Twilight Princess wasn't even released in stores, and Japanese department stores sold off all their overstock in August 0f 2006.

If it is to become a cult hit, the continuing support will probably have to come from publishers in America. TH*Q, Ubisoft and whatever publisher that is releasing Radio Allergy are releasing Gamecube games in 2007, a bold move indeed. If you want the Gamecube to become a cult hit, there are only two possibilities in which this can happen:

1. There is a demand for traditional control schemes and Gamecube software among the Wii installed base

2. Games released for Gamecube sell well enough to turn a profit

3. Gamecube installed base doesn't decline

With all the clowns out there selling their Cubes to gameshops for $20 so that they can get a few bucks off a Wii game.....the installed base may have tumbled.

Who knows? It would be nice to see games continued to be released for the Cube, especially quirky niche titles. I'd buy them if that happened. Unfortunately, I think we are few and far between....

Cause it didn't for me. Not saying that it sucked though, it's my 3rd personal favorite out of the Zelda batch, but to me, the game just seemed too easy.Legendaryscmt

It went well beyond my expectations. It took me 90 hours to see everything. Great game.

And if getting hot girls wasn't a rare event for you, you wouldn't be proclaiming it in your signature. Just thought you might want to know how transparent that is.

The GBA allows me to play all the great NES and SNES games I enjoyed back when I was your age. It helps me get through those long train rides to work.

Twilight Princess. Ocarina was great and will rank higher on a greatest games of all time list, but Twilight Princess was the right step in a new direction.

I wasn't going to buy a Gamecube. The GBA player came out and I couldn't resist. My first GC game was Metriod Prime. Those were good days.

I still don't get what the appeal to SSBM is. I've played it once of twice since with people...it's good multiplayer action but I feel it's so out of control, as far as fighting games go. I'm used to Street Fighter and Soul Caliber, so maybe that why it's hard for me to wrap my head around. Anyway, I'll probably buy it, just to have a complete Gamecube collection. When that happens, I hope I finally "get it".
