In 2019 I'm looking forward to the Subnautica standalone expansion: Below Zero. I'm also interested in Gears of War 5, and the Civ VI expansion Gathering Storm. Then on a more general level, the expected updates and additions to current games like Kerbal Space Program, No Man's Sky, etc... Thank you developers that stand by your games!

Lastly, waiting for sales of games I could not afford to buy this year. Sooner or later they will all be mine. ;-)

I'm viewing this "trailer" differently. I don't think Punisher will be streaming in January though I wish it was. I think it's coming soon after January...

Echo VR reminded me very much of the battle school in Ender's Game. I think that would be an interesting story to build a VR game around.

Due to the lack of a coherent story from day one, I'm just worried this episode will be a sloppy attempt to tie up loose threads, try and introduce something new, but also wrap that up... augh. I just get a feeling of messiness.

I'll see it of course. Sorta of a "let's just get this out of the way." Then I'll hope for a better planned story for whatever follows. I hope they start over, no matter where in the timeline and tell a tighter story with some control versus letting each director do their own thing.

> It is mind-blowing that this is actually getting released.

Why? It's a great re-imaging of the story that as I understand is closer to the book. (I have not read it.) I really liked this movie. CGI was great, everyone played their roles well. I liked the darker and grittier look. Netflix nailed it in getting this.

If you have very small children you might want to watch it first before exposing them. Otherwise just explain to them that life is a jungle and it's a dog eat dog world. Or in this case, a tigers eat the weak world...

@gleencross: Thanks for all your insight, you have definitely played more in this area than me. On Civ's weather system, I'm not thinking it will improve the game, but will just add some nice additions if done right. That's the biggie here, how is it implemented? I'll just have to wait and see.

I read one article where the developers said they wanted it to be more than "everyone" trying to stop global warming... That you could play differently, working to have flooding take out an opponent if they are on the coast line for example...

My one concern and I feel it now, there could be so much to do that you don't have time to take out an opponent. I feel many times I need to put each turn and city towards improving something else. Now we'll have canals and dams... Civ has always been a bit of a game where you have to pause improvements if you get into a war, which is fine to a point. But a long war pretty much bogs one down to where you can find yourself too far behind afterwards.

Again, I'll just need to wait and see how this goes. Should be interesting, I hope.

@gleencross: You are correct, a religious victory is tough. Plus, in my current game I just don't have enough cities to create enough religious units. It is frustrating to know near mid-game that I'm doomed.

I usually go for the science victory. My military is to hold the others off, but I just churn away internally to gain that win. But religion... I need to go forth and well... I think I'm destined for the has-beens in the history of my current world. ;-) But I was curious about this path as it's been used against me by other civs.

I agree with you that combat is the same. City building (districts!) very different. Overall though, yes, I can see why you sense a repetitive feel to it all. In some ways it is a Civ game so the core will always be there.

Galactic Civilization 3. I play that also, though not good at it. (Goodness, I have my own theme going on here. I'm not terribly good at these games I like. Lol) I see that they just pushed out this year another update. I'm planning on once I finish my current Civ game to start up a new GalCiv game to see what has changed.

I have not played the Warhammer games, but with what you have written here, I'm interested.

I've looked at Stellaris and Endless Space 2 but have held off for exactly the reason you list here, the learning curve. Years back I bought Sins of a Solar Empire and I had trouble getting into it enough to have a fun time gaming. I'll blame myself, I should have devoted more time to it.

I do find it interesting to see what the various developers are trying to keep it all fresh and original. I won't say they pull it off perfectly each time, but there are some interesting ideas being attempted. More of an evolutionary rate of change versus anything revolutionary that would remake the genre from my experience. Though maybe others will disagree and can name a game that does that, that I might not have tried or really clicked with.

@gleencross: It's fair if you feel the game doesn't work for you. Sorry to hear... I personally am really enjoying this iteration. Example, in my latest game I'm playing for a religious victory to try that path out. I find it a different way to play. I'm also going to lose but that's another issue... Lol.

I like the eras they have added. So as I play during an era besides the standard push on science and expansion, I'm trying to get myself to a golden age. The bonuses help. I like the latter's game "Emergencies" I think they are called. In some games I've had to fight off those Civs that tried to stop me from taking a city I needed. Or another time I joined with the world to stop another civ doing the same. What I liked about this was it reflected a "troubled corner of the world" which seems to reflect our real world.

It's not for everyone. But I think they have kept the game fresh. Each iteration changes the game enough that there are plenty of reasons to keep past versions installed as they do play differently. I think that's great, IMO.

@sagittarius476: Yea, hope 76 does well. I have nothing against it. But I'm more interested in the list you have here for what's coming from them: Starfield, ES6 and Fallout 5! Those are the games I want to see. Though from I understand they are all years away.

So your point is well made. 76 is to keep the fans busy...

I love Fallout but I won't be playing this version of the game. But I have to say I liked this segment. Very interesting and great guest. I smiled at the fact that a lathe can be used to create itself. I think I first learned that fact in S.M. Sterling's Island in the Sea of Time. A great trilogy if you are interested in another take on rebuilding civilization from scratch.
