STADIUM: Target Smash!

A target-breaking mode has appeared in every game in the Smash series. It's a mode that challenges you to break ten targets within a given time limit-basically, a game for those who salivate at the thought of speed runs.

Break the targets!

It's outdoors now, giving it a refreshing visual appearance. This time, there are five different maps of varying difficulty-challenges you can take on with your favorite character.

Each of the five maps is distinctive.

Some levels have items as well, so you may be able to use them to cut your time even more.

Use all of your character's skills to beat your own personal records!

This is the pause screen.

If you fail, you can pause the game and try again. You can also confirm the overall layout by pausing.

There is another announcement I'd like make simultaneously...

This time, you can view replays. What this means is, the game records what you did in brawls or in Target Smash and lets you review it.

You can record about three minutes worth of replay data.

And it's even possible to send replays of your most amazing times to Wii Friends! If you compete against each other, things will surely heat up.

Fire it off!

It feels great to use all of your knowledge and techniques to shave off a hundredth of a second. But you don't have to do that to enjoy these features, so I hope you'll give it a try regardless.

PictoChat

There are only a few nonsense stages in the only "slightly" nonsensical Smash. But there isn't any stage more nonsensical than this.

PictoChat?! What is THIS?!

It's a fun little sketch-and-chat software with wireless functionality that's built into the Nintendo DS!

And if you turn it into a stage, it looks like this! BAM!

At first, there's nothing there. It's just flat.

If you wait a bit, terrain gets drawn in with a few stylus strokes!

Of course, you can climb up on the doodles.

You may get knocked about by side winds.

There may be things you want to ride on moving around.

Hot! HOT! Are these flames?

This looks solid! But it's also flat?!

Wow! A whale!

The doodles that appear will disappear after a while, and then something else will get drawn.

Oh, and on this stage, you'll also be able to enjoy Mii Channel music and Wii Shop Channel music, too.

Oh! That's just divine.

Peach: Final Smash

Somehow, Princess Peach always seems go at her own pace. Her Final Smash will lure you into her world.

She's got the Smash Ball and she's ready!

Wh-what is this? This screen frame?!

Peach dances. Mario suddenly gets sleepy.

At the end, a plethora of peaches!

The closer you are to Peach, the deeper you sleep. And all around you is a mountain of peaches that replenish your health when you eat them.

Are you just going to eat peaches?!

Or are you going to launch your foes?!

The flowers bloom. The peaches pour down. Yes. It's so elegant.

Little Mac

Little Mac

Once there was a legendary man. He knocked heavyweight boxers many times his own size to the mat en route to a W.V.B.A. title.

Little Mac appears from Punch Out!

I can do it! I'm the one!

... But isn't he a little small?

Don't take him too lightly just because he's small. There's an authentic fighter in him.

A fierce dash!

One! Two! Powerful jabs!

And his special move is his uppercut!

Resurrecting this legend for the current generation is something we can all enjoy just a bit. He is an Assist Trophy.

Meowth

Meowth. It's considered a major Pokémon, but it did not show up in Melee. It now makes its first appearance since the original Smash Bros.

Meowth appears!

It unleashes a slow coin barrage!

They call this Pay Day, but it's not like it's getting any coins out of it.

It doesn't appear to be throwing the coin on its forehead.

Huh? That definitely appears to be a coin on its forehead, but what do you suppose they call it in Japan?

Maybe if you check the Japanese version of Smash Bros. Dojo you can find out...

How to use the Wii Remote

Believe it or not, but you can use four controller types with this game! But everyone seems to wonder the most about how the Wii Remote works when held sideways.

Please allow me to explain.

+Control Pad : Move

Press left or right to walk and press up to jump.

If you're in a real hurry, press twice. Press left or right twice to run and press down for a short time to fall through some floors.

Press sideways twice to dash!

2 Button : Basic Moves

Just press the button for a standard attack. Press it while pressing a direction on the +Control Pad for a strong attack.

You can perform smash attacks in one of the following ways:

1 Press the 1 Button and the 2 Button at the same time.

2 Press any direction on the +Control Pad and the 2 Button at the same time.

Just pick whichever one is easiest for you!!

Press the 2 Button at the same time you press up,
sideways, or down!

1 Button : Special Moves

The direction you press will determine what kind of special move you do.

You have four special moves depending on the direction you pick: neutral, up, sideways, and down.

B Button : Shield

This is in a kind of hard-to-press area, but the button for your shield is near your left index finger.

To dodge, hold down the B Button and press in a direction.

To grab, hold down the B Button and press the 2 Button.

To throw an item, hold down the B Button and press the 2 Button.

Using the - Button is the same as pressing B Button and 2 Button. Grab away!

A Button : Taunt

That's all!

Right now, to grab a Smash Ball, you have to beat on it-not just touch it. Don't forget!

Be the first to pummel it!

When you get a Smash Ball, try a standard special move. In other words, just press the button for your special move without a direction. You will then perform your Final Smash.

This is the same for all control schemes, so keep that in mind.

On October 18 at the E for All (Entertainment For All Expo) in Los Angeles, people will be able to play Brawl. And (perhaps boldly), it will be available for play with the Wii Remote. Is that really going to be OK?

No need for concern-I bet you can play it quite smoothly and simply...maybe. How about a little mental training before the time comes when you actually control it?

STADIUM: Home-Run Contest

What is the Home-Run Contest? It's a competition to see who can hit Sandbag the farthest in just ten seconds!

You see Sandbag and a character on the platform.

At the start, it's just you and Sandbag.

Then you just beat Sandbag silly, filling up his damage meter.

There's only a 10-second time limit!

Before time runs out, grab the Home-Run Bat on the ground and do a smash attack with it!

PWANG! You launch him!

Fly! Flyyy!

Compete for longest distance.

Flight distances are recorded for each character. Go! Break the record! Set your own!!

But this time... there are four differences!

1: The stadium platform is protected by a shield.

Whoa! This nice feature keeps you from falling.

If you don't put some force into it, you won't break through the shield, so you can pummel Sandbag to your heart's content. Surely this will allow you to string together new combos.

2: Two players can play together.

Incredible! Two can enjoy it!

As a tag team, you can challenge yourselves to set even greater records. You'll have to work perfectly together, though.

3: Two-player alternating play.

Compete for distance in two matches!

Ah, competition-that's what the Stadium is all about. Players compete to see who can hit the farthest.

4: Online competitions.

You can't tell from this shot, but this is an online match.

This option can be found under With Friends. And it supports both the two-player cooperative and two-player alternating modes.

This is some rather rich functionality. You'll be able to play just this mode quite a bit. Amazing, isn't it?

New Pork City

The scale of this stage is one of the grandest in the Smash Bros series. The scale is, say, about as same as that Temple stage-you know the one I'm talking about?

It's New Pork City.

It is a city of chaos.

It's too detailed to fully understand...

The buildings are like...billboards?

At any rate, it's big, so if all someone does is run away, there will be no end to it. But with so much freedom, it becomes a giant playground.

There's quite a lot of freedom.

Also, a monster known as the "Ultimate Chimera" appears on this stage.

The-there it is!

If this guy sinks his teeth into you, it will launch you off in one blow. It's pretty much certain that if you get hit, you'll lose a life. But there's nothing you can do. I mean, it IS the Ultimate Chimera.

I'm no maaaaaaaatch...

New Launch and E for All

Today I have some good news and some bad news. Let's get the bad part out of the way first, shall we?

As many of you may have already heard, we have had to delay the launch of Super Smash Bros. Brawl by just a little bit-it will now be launching on February 10th in the Americas. I know that many of you will be disappointed by this news, but please understand that the extra development time will enable us to make the game the best it can be. It is my earnest hope that you will all be enjoying this game for many years, and we are all working very hard toward that goal.

Phew. Now for some good news to tide you over.

The forthcoming E for All event will be held at the Los Angeles Convention Center beginning October 18.

And it appears that this event will display the first ever public playable version of Super Smash Bros. Brawl! I am planning on having people play the game-but with limited character selection.

The problem is Sonic. What to do... I suppose if we're going to all this trouble, perhaps we should make him playable.

Oh, yes. And for those of you who come to play, please remember-you tap the Control Stick to do Smash attacks.

Have fun!

Taking Snapshots

While playing the game, you might encounter an interesting situation. At times like this, you must PAUSE!

Stop the action and look at the scene from all different directions.

If that pause in the action makes for an interesting shot that you wish you could keep, then by all means, do so. Take a SNAAAAAAAPSHOT!

If you're on the pause screen, you can snap a photo anytime!

Like this.

Take funny snapshots...

As often as you like!

You can take snapshots like the images we've shown here on Smash Bros. Dojo.

We had a snapshot mode in the past, but you couldn't take a snapshot anytime in the middle of a match. And they were saved to a GameCube Memory Card-it wasn't like you could save several dozens of photos.

However! This time there are SD cards! With those, you'll have room to save plenty of snapshots!

Just give it a name and save it to either location.

But wait! There's more!

"Send"???

This feature allows you to send your snapshots to people you've registered as Friends for Nintendo WFC play. So you can give them funny little screenshots as presents. You can view them in the Album.

Don't you think you'd be happy to suddenly get a funny photo from a friend? Perhaps online brawling isn't the only way to compete.

Uh, as for that thing that's blurred out, that's still a secret. We're still in development, so I apologize in advance if it gets dropped, but we are thinking of one more trick for this mode.
