This topic is about the changes to the Gamespace other than the review system. I'd still like to hear feedback on that topic, since we're still actively working to improve the initial roll-out of the new design.

There are plenty of other topics focused on the review system changes.

SamP

It wasn't until you changed it, and since we have been discussing the changes how about you deal with our complaints instead of changing the subject?

Look at it this way:

You're having a pizza party and 51% want large crust and 49% want thin crust. Do you just get large crusted pizzas, or do you get 2 of both kinds?

Some people like this system but there's an equal amount of a majority to hate it as well.

AJMarra

Is it just me or did that make no sense? What's "an equal amount of a majority"?

Many people are adverse to change and take time to adjust, but in this instance people know what they want. The fact so many people have taken the time to post here and voice their disapproval should send a clear message to GameSpot. They will refuse to see it though and be blinded by their own vision. If only for once they could admit that just maybe they got it wrong, they won't of course and the whole of GameSpot will suffer as a result.

AJMarra

Amen.

I can see it now, there will be a response along the lines of "there are loads of users who are happy that just don't respond, people only post to complain". Of course this isn't true though, just look at the new search engine thread. Loads of positive replies and praise for a job well done!

When you get something right, you will know about it and be able to bask in the glory. But equally when you get something wrong, you should be able to swallow your pride and give people want they want.

Now GameSpot Employees, most of the people who have posted an opinion in this thread are veteran GameSpot lovers, and pretty much all of the opinions are negative. We're the ones who really care, our opinions should be noted. Can't we please bring back the old reviewing system? It would make so many people happy.

AJMarra

Indeed, but don't kid yourself into thinking that GameSpot care about what the users want for one minute. Just look at all the excellent ideas and suggestions already kicking around in here that are completely ignored in favour of this unwanted and unwelcome change. Over the last month I've seen GameSpot in a whole new light, and it's not pretty!

They will rally together and defend the decisions made until everyone gets fed up arguing at which point they can tell themselves they were right all along. It's sad really, but that seems to be the way things are done.

I think as it is, making pages percentage-based (aka 'liquid') would probably break a lot of site. Game, user, and union banners are all fixed with, so they'd have to find a way to make that not look weird if you make the page wider. Plus they'd have to find a way to make the top navigation and everything above that still work.gakon5

errmmm.... yes..... but isn't thay what they are paid for? Didn't say it would be easy, but the site looks terrible on most modern PCs. This should be a top priority for them!

I agree, change is normally a good thing... but it would seem not to be the case if GameSpot are involved. Every "improvement" they have made in the last month or so has just dragged the whole site down.

The latest change to a new review system is a perfect case in point. We are now going to be inundated with loads more 9's or 8.5's with little to distinguish between them. Then there are the medals, what's the point of them? You have to know what they mean for a start, and there could potentially be dozens of the things for each game. The old system game you all the info you needed at a quick glance, not any more!

It just seems like change for the sake of it, a very well known saying applies yet again: "If it ain't broke, don't fix it"

Bring back Greg Kasavin! This would never have happened while he was at the helm, I get the impression that GameSpot is a sinking ship now it's captain has departed.

Agreed 100%, it's time GameSpot stopped fiddling with the little layout issues such as navigation and sorted out this fixed width issue!

It should be possible to make everything scale nicely using CSS, at the moment you try and make the font bigger and it trashes the layout and all the text collides. I thought GameSpot was supposed to be run by proffesionals? I think it's time they got to work and brought this site up to date!

Why can't we have a option to set the resolution GameSpot?

The new menu is okay I guess, but a few niggles I have:

1) Can the three articles actually refer to the platform I'm browsing? At the moment there are PS3 articles linked to in the Xbox360 section. It would be more beneficial to have relevant articles displayed.

2) Not keen on the way the menu bar is now dis-jointed, with the forums / videos etc. being shifted up when you go to a gamespace. It makes the navigation inconsistent, and that's bad practise in any design book!

3) Why does Sport have it's own category? Seems a bit pointless, why not FPS, or driving? To be honest it doesn't need to be listed independently at all. Just get rid of it!

4) Cheat Codes, again, does this really need a menu choice all of it's own when Cheat codes are also listed in the platform sub-menu? My advise, dump it!

What's with the banner ads to "Amazon" and "SwapGame" in the Gamespace? Please don't tell me they aren't ads, they have refferal information!

Total Access is supposed to be free from adverts, but yet again GameSpot try sneaking them in! Please remove them, I pay for ad free access to your site, these are without question, adverts.
