Pretty much. The middle east, and a handful of other, equally backwards, parts of the world. It's not a religious thing. It's a cultural thing. People living in a culture of savages, understandably, become savages.

Crime happens all over the world. There are evil people everywhere who commit heinous crimes. The police have captured the people involved and will put them on trial. Why do you feel the need to bash entire groups of people for the crimes of a few?

I've already gifted several games to my nephews on their birthdays. I made it through the steam gift system.

They enjoyed my digital gift more than any of the physical gifts their friends and parents gave them.

About the controls:

1. *Always* jump with Ctrl + Space. There's no use in jumping just with space, and you can even hold Ctrl before pressing Space. You'll be gliding around the level traversing obstacles in no time.

2. The ladder mechanic is probably the most simple in any game, once you know how to use it. If you want to get off a ladder just look where you want to go and *hold* E until you're pushed off the ladder. If you want to hold unto a descending ladder, just aim at it and press E.

I agree about the soldier AI, it's absolute crap. They should be as inaccurate as me and not total aimbots.

It's a masterpiece and GameSpot should officially review it.

I played the original HL when it first came out 14 years ago, and I can honestly say this version is better than the original in almost every way (except maybe the soldier AI, it's a bit clunky). Valve should take notes from these guys.

The Xen levels were the worst thing about HL1, completely counter climatic to the whole experience. I'm glad they released the earth section alone. It's perfect that way.

Now if they could do Opposing Force...
