For $229, you can get the 4890 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102841 It also has vapor x cooling. this is assuming you told him to get the 2gb card that was $250 on the top of the list?

Hi all, I'm starting college soon and I want to build my first PC. This is what I have put together so far. Any advice and tips are much appreciated!

Case - Cooler Master CM690

Mobo - EVGA nForce 750i Sli FTW

CPU - e8400 3ghz Wolfdale

GPU - EVGA GTX 260

Memory - 4gb Corsair 800mhz

PSU - Corsair 650 watt

HD - Western Digital 500gb

Optical drive - Light On Blu-ray player

I've been out of the loop with computers for the past year or so, so if I've put together anything that isn't compatible or if there are name brands here that I should avoid please tell me. I'm trying to not go over 1000$ on the build so keep that in mind if there is anything I could change. This will also be my first time ever putting a computer together so any advice in that area would be appreciated also.

Thanks

~JM

Swapped out the memory for this one. My only concern is that I'm looking for memory with some decent room to overclock my Phenom II. Also, would AM2+ CPU fans still be able to be used with the AM3 sockets?

If you are talking about a processor Heatsink, I believe the only real difference between AM2+ and AM3 is a couple of internal pins. I believe it will fit but it is dependent on the heatsink itself.

Download Puppy Linux, burn to Iso, boot from CD and see if you can back up anything: http://www.puppylinux.org/ (OFF TOPIC - charrr1234 forfeit is spelled wrong in the "EA notice" lol.... just in case you didn't notice)

PSU is not necessary: Get this PSU instead use that one for cheaper (700w) and GET THIS COMBO: Antec 900 and 955 Processor Combo remove the antec 900 and processor(yours is sold out anyway) from your cart and add this combo. Great deal.

OR you could get THIS COMBO which has the Motherboard you picked out and is $80 a processor that is normally $225. Taking the money you save by switching PSU's and applying to the $15 difference between processors.... Man I AM ON A ROLL!!! (sorry I am just owning your prices and finding great deals)

As for RAM, if you are running a 64bit OS, Get 6gb DDR3 just because DDR3 is triple channel that runs best at intervals of 3 (or something like that...)

Go to Bestbuy and pick one up. If you don't like it, return it (30 day return policy opened or unopened) assuming you live in America.

thanks bro sorry i had to resize every image because they were huge pictures and im going to throw my GPU in this mother board just to see what i get....all i need now is to find a good set of ram

What type of ram does it use? DDR2 or DDR3? Well heres some good DDR2 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820145241 - 4Gb Corsair DDR2

Better DDR2 RAM - Used in 2 builds
