it's only $85 at newegg after rebate, it's not on tomshardware to compare how it runs, the 4850 and 4870 are tho. I was wondering what kind of fps / settings / cpu / ram / OS you have with it and how it runs crysis maxed...ncderek

I have a 4830 with an e5200 oc'ed to 3.5, 4gb corsair 800, with windows 7 beta, and so far, it runs Fallout 3 and Left 4 Dead completely maxed out at 1280x1024 at 30+ fps, I'm not sure about Crysis though, I don't feel like installing it on that comp. I would definitely say it's worth the money for every game but Crysis. If you NEED to play Crysis on high settings, I would atleast go for a 4850 if you're running a resolution below 1680x1050.

Avira is nice, usually rates pretty high when compared to others. If you get it, make sure to look up how to disable the popup. It's pretty annoying, but easily resolved.

You could always go for the E5200 and/or use the free Windows 7 beta. It's good til August.

Do you know if your mobo will support an X2 processor? You could get a nice X2 processor for under $80, either an HD 4830 or 4850, depending on your budget, and just switch out that 1gb of ram, which is probably slower ram, with like 4gb of ddr2 800 ram. Just make sure you have a 64bit os if you do decide to get 4gb of ram. If you're still running XP, 2gb will do fine.

Prices have really shot up on Newegg in the past week or so. If you do plan on getting the E5200, it can be found for under $80 if you wait a little. The difference in cache in the E5200 and the E7000s really doesn't make much of a difference in gaming, I'd say just go for the E5200 if you're on a budget. You'll still get amazing overclocking performance out of it.

I don't know if you'd get much performance gain out of upgrading just one component.

I just recently bought an E5200 with a Freezer 7 Pro, and easily oc'ed it to 3.5ghz on a Asus P5QL Pro board. Prime stable for 22hrs, 1.25 vcore, idle at 37, max load temps around 53. I actually just looked around some forums and noted some other peoples settings with the E5200 and P5QL Pro, tried out one of the settings, and it worked perfectly.

If you're using Firefox, download the add-on DownThemAll for it. It works pretty well. Also, try downloading WoW patches from websites like filefront or something instead of the blizzard downloader. Sometimes you can get better speeds.

Yeah, the PSU, the case, the motherboard and the proccesor come in one package. I am looking for the package deals, that come with the Proccesor already installed onto the motherboard, because as i said, me and my friend are just begginers, so we don't want to delve into the world of thermal paste and heatsinks just yet.

in response to the comment that the proccesor is "outdated", i think that i will not start worrying to much about what "QXXXXXX" it is but if theres a deal that has a better proccesor, i'm all for it. I think the main thing for my friend is to have a quad-core, because i have already pulled him away from the i7 line.

The GPU on this is selling for $150, which i don't believe is that bad, but when I compared it to a similarly priced Videocard (the SAPPHIRE 100245L Radeon HD 4850 512MB 256-bit GDDR3) i saw that the 9800GTX has only 128 stream proccesors, yet the 4850 (going for $130) has 800. In the ATI card the number 800 is followed by "Stream Proccesing Units" which may change the numbers is a deceptive way. Never the less, they look the same other then the stream.... conflict, so I am not worried about the GPU.

If you don't wanna mess with thermal pastes and stuff, the Artic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro is only like $35, and it comes with the thermal paste already applied, and it's a really good heatsink. Installing a cpu is nothing more than putting the cpu on the motherboard, it doesn't get any easier. Here would be my recommendations...

Mobo-Asus P5QL Pro - $86.99

Case-Antec 300 - $64.95

CPU-Q6600 - $194.99

PSU-Thermaltake Purepower 500W - $49.99 ($29.99 after MIR)

HS-Arctic Cooling Freezer 7 Pro - $36.99

GPU-Sapphire HD4850 - $144.99 ($129.99 after MIR)

RAM-Crucial Ballistix 4gb ddr2 800 - $47.99

HD-WD 640gb 7200rpm 32mb cache - $72.99

DVD Drive-LG 22x - $24.99

Total = 724.87 ($689.87 after MIR)

What mobo? Does that power supply come with the case? If not, 800w is a little overkill for that system.
