The Wii is a great console, but I agree that the type of games evolving on Nintendo's recent systems don't really appeal to the "hardcore" audience. Games like Brain Age took very little time, effort, and money to create but turned huge profits. The Wii itself is a simple, cheap, and easy to market system and if it becomes a huge success I don't see what would stop MS and Sony from following suite. Right now, though, I don't care so much since gamers are getting a choice. In the future though, as games become more complex and risky to create I think we will see an even greater number of simple games that are relatively safe bets for profit.

It's 'well'....not 'good'.

Anyways, it's a mix of things. Price is certainly a factor. It's not that it's cheap per say, it's that the competition is so exspensive.

Also, games. Wii has only been out 4 months and has 3 killer apps and a slew of AA and A titles.

Also there is the media hype. Being on south park, the colbert report, opera, dr. phil, conan, the news and so on really grab people's attention.

And lastly is the wiimote. you would be insane to overlook that as a selling point.

IMHO, I feel the media hype is the biggest reason. Nintendo has done a lot of advertising.

Anyway, not 'anyways!' =P

The Wii is doing so well since it received a lot of hype from the media, and "casuals" are going crazy for it. Seriously, there was a girl at my school who bought the Wii and hardly knew what a video game was.

The PSP is indeed a great system. I think the problem lies with Sony's marketing. They keep pressing to grab the, "Cool kids," who want the system for its sleek look and mostly music capabilities. This in turn means low software sales, and even with 20+ million PSP users developers are finding it hard to make a game that sells.

There are still plenty of great games on the system, and the idea that the PSP has no good games needs to fade away. Yes, at launch and for a while afterwards there were few games, but times have changed and now the PSP's game library is quite strong. The outlook for PSP games is very good, too, with God of War, Final Fantasy, Ghost Recon, and Oblivion already announced.

The best thing to do is just turn your back towards all of the PSP hate, and just enjoy the system that you know is great.

Just tried it! It works! Man, think of how well the PSP would be selling if Sony just told consumers that stuff like this was possible. Great tip! Thanks!

Nice to see that the PSP isn't as "dead" as people say. Its a great handheld, just a tad expensive.

Just picked up Spiderman 2 (never got the chance to see it) and Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon as the free movie. Great deal, and the quality of the movies is really impressive!

I thought I'd also point out that the 360 obviously isn't the most unreliable console in history. The NES (well mine at least), and a bunch of those Atari systems were war worse. It still however is the most unreliable of this "gen".

this is stupid, go onto XBL and ask how many people have sent in their 360 to be fixed.  You'll quickly learn the whole thing is blown way out of proportion.jrhawk42

It might be a bit exaggerated, but the console is the most unreliable of the current 3. Many of my friends have 360s, and all but one of them still have their original 360. Of the one person who's 360 has not broken, the console did scratch his brand new copy of Gears of War on day one for unknown reasons.

I don't want to sound unpatriotic or anything, but it seems that just about everything that's American made these days is unreliable...especially when concerning electronics. (Automobiles is probably the most notable example.)
