@Kevin-V @slimskelter To be fair Edge chose Dishonored, Far cry was 10th but they started the countdown with number 10. I liked the rest of the post, though.
@AhnFire @TheAgingGamer You also have to get the numbers of how many people who find violent games to be a stress relief as well for this to have any merit, since robbing them of the games will mean they will become an increased threat. The road to hell is paved with good intentions, and if anything this would ultimately have had the opposite effect but as I already mentioned it would actually have zero effect. They would pirate it and that's that, there's absolutely no chance they would not. It would be about thousand times less effective than the the war on drugs. I can only strongly suggest that you look elsewhere if you are really interested in solutions, video games are a dead end - in absolute all aspects.
@analgrin Our minds have potential for infinite violent and perverse fantasies, someone must stop the madness and save us all! People can't be allowed to enjoy this! IMAGINE WHAT THEY MIGHT DO!
@TheAgingGamer @AhnFire You might as well suggest a study that postulates "Is human stupidity the reason some people see the need to kill us?" You are just picking out some politically correct scapegoat element, suggesting it as a viable basis, and promoting further research on the issue. But that's the core of almost all current morally-oriented academic research, thanks to controversial research being a career killer now.
@TheAgingGamer I understand why you think this makes sense, you have this suspicion that violent entertainment leads to violence IRL but it's just not a relevant factor. In fact, it is more likely to act as a stress relief. This does not mean that an individual can't be influenced by violent media to be violent, almost anything can be a trigger factor in someone. But the focus on a connection between violent entertainment/real life violence is just tempting scapegoat material and some people desperate to look for solutions will bite.
You are just running the errand of hysterical politicians when you entertain this notion, and people with serious mental illnesses do not need any sort of logical reasons to act. A recent case here involved a mentally ill guy living with his mother, whom he loved above everything, and then suddenly stabbed her to death one day. He has no explanation for it and he is just devastated. You can't stop this or look for any remotely simple explanations, this is just a part of life. The shooter in this case was just a hateful suicide case. If you decide to kill yourself and take as many with you as possible a free society cannot stop that, it's just not possible.
@TheAgingGamer @AhnFire You would deny people with mental illnesses the right to enjoy adult entertainment so you could feel you had made an effort, completely ignoring the fact that any actual real life element can trigger these people if ENTERTAINMENT can? And, of course, since they would just pirate the content it would have zero effect as well and be one of the most useless laws in existence throughout history? You must be a politician.
