MrBoGaNgLes Blog

Another Blog, sorry, but it's about JEFF!

So I may not be the most involved in the inner-workings of Gamespot. I may not watch all the episodic content this website has to offer. I may not know every single editor's name. I'm pretty busy, and I'm not the biggest cpu guy out there, so I'm not always on the Internet. I go to about 4-6 regularly and I don't stay on there for long periods of time. But I do know Jeff, and I have heard rumors in the past that Gamespot may be receiving payment for good feedback in reviews for advertised games on the website. This may be incident that proves those rumors to be true.

Jeff Gerstman (I hope that's spelt right, to tired to go and check) has been an editor here at Gamespot as long as there has been a Gamespot. Recently, if you haven't heard, he was supposedly terminated from Gamespot's services for the tone of his Kane and Lynch review. Though it's nothing official, people close to the Gamespot staff, and many websites have said that Jeff was let go.

While this whole situation isn't pulling that hard on my heart strings, I'm pretty disappointed in what the higher management here at Gamespot and Cnet has done. How can we, the people who rely on reviews to help us decide what games we may purchase trust this site if this is true? I have a problem with reviews as it is, (check out my Thanksgiving special for more on my thoughts on the reviewing system) and now, if people are being let go for expressing their opinion they way they want to, what's next? Firing for a bad score? Last time I checked the U.S. Constitution it said the Government didn't have the right to control our speech. Who does Gamespot think they are, letting someone go due to pressure from a game developer? This is outlandish, stupid, and above all, uncalled for. This is shady business, and I don't like it.

Gamespot should have stood up for their man. They should have stood behind Jeff's review, or they should never have let him post it if they thought it would cause problems. This site is going to lose a lot of business from the common gamer who pays for the site's premium services. They made a mistake if they really let Jeff go. They made a big mistake. I'm anxious to see this story unfold.

Comments? What do you think about the Jeff situation?

Not a hefty list, but hey, no PS3 to enjoy Ratchet. What else could I do? The awards show should be in 2 weeks, so there, you have something to look forward too.

I just beat...

Mass Effect! YAY! It was a fun, enjoyable experience, and the story was superb. It's a really fun game if you're into RPG's and Sci-Fi. If you're like EightBitWarrior, who's more into Sci-Fi than Bioware RPG's then steer clear or it. I found that the driving portions while no where close to perfect, aren't as bad as the reviews say it is. The texture pop was insanely bad. Oh man. Anyway, full review on this weekend's brand new installment of AWESOMENESS.

I might not be too happy during filming though. SAT's earlier that day... 5 hours... test... unenjoyable...

Thanksgiving, with a side of Awesomeness!!!

Hey everyone! Happy Thanksgiving, and if you don't celebrate this holiday, then Happy November 22nd. Since gamespot still seems to have this uploading video processing problem, I've posted the Thanksgiving Special on youtube. In this special I talk tell the story of Squanto's return. Plus, Mass Effect reflections and a little note about the current scoring system here on gamespot. Happy Holidays!

Mass Effect! Game of the...8.5???

Photo Sharing and Video Hosting at Photobucket

I don't get it. Most review sites are giving this game upwards of 9 and saying that it's the next big step for video games. But yet, the Gamespot review (click the picture to get to the review) gives it a 8.5. I guess they're just numbers, but what's the deal with this site rating certain games lower then almost everywhere else. Mass Effect is the next big RPG, that may change the way RPG's are crafted from now on, and this website gives it an 8.5? Just like Ratchet and Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, this rest of the critical response is way more positive. Is this website taking small problems and blowing them out of proportion? No matter what the score, I'll have to craft my own opinion.

EDIT: In response to some of the comments, I have no problem with the written review itself, it's just that the first thing many people look at when they see a review is the score. What I'm saying here is that I think Gamespot reviewers are being a little nit-picky when it comes to giving and taking away points. I miss the old days where this game could've earned an 8.6-8.9. I think it might've scored a little higher. Anyway, again, I have to wait till tomorrow until I can have my own opinion.

Awesomeness Volume 4 - Awesomeness's Creed

Sorry it's a day late, but I'll tell you this. It's definitely not a dollar short. It's actually my longest volume of Awesomeness yet. It includes Assassin's Creed reflections, answers to questions and even a new outro! So, while this may be the longest installment yet, I'll keep this intro as short as I can. Enjoy!

Volume IV: Awesomeness's Creed

In the newest installment of Awesomeness, I give my impressions of Assassin's Creed for the 360. Plus a mini-review of Call of Duty 4, answers to questions, and much much more.

Did I bite the bullet and purchase Assassin's Creed after all?
