What you are trying to do is illogical.

to get a motherboard that supports your current cpu is to upgrade to a motherboard with a dead socket. So you wouldn't be able to get the faster i7s at a later date anyway without upgrading your motherboard again

Also, let's say that isn't a dead socket (which it is) upgrading your motherboard will net you about ZERO performance improvement but going from a 950 to a 2500k or an ivybridge is a much more significant upgrade than that.

Those won't work on your motherboard anyway though.

If you have 350 dollars to throw into the wind, I would get:

1) a new graphics card

2) Nothing else

I need a bit of help in terms of proper order to go in. My last GPU, 8800GT, died on me so I had ordered a 6850 as well as Windows 7. I'm unsure of what the proper order of installations and steps I have to take. I obviously want to back up stuff on my computer, but with the 8800GT Windows XP won't load. Do I install the 6850 first, back up everything, and then install Windows 7?

EVOLV3

Dont have to install the drivers of the 6850, just need the card in there, when you install windows 7 that is when you install the 6850 drivers.

In the old days you could. Now nope.

tell us your system though, it sounds like you don't have a lot of system ram, which is what your integrated graphics is taking its ram from.

I was going to do a full upgrade a few months ago but I have held off. I don't mind waiting to see if Haswell is a big jump forward. I don't mind spending $120 on a CPU if it's going to be a significnat boost for gaming from my 6000+.

jakes456

It will be a huge boost. I went from a 6000+ to a 955.

ECS is typically pretty bad, I had a few of them and they gave me issues ranging from slight stability problems to constant crashes.

I think it might have something to do with the quality of the firmware.

Ever since I went to Abit and then Asus never had any issues.
