Because a 24 inch monitor that is 1080p will be 16:9 ratio while x1200 will be 16:10.
Just like a really old crt 32 inch 4:3 would be taller but narrower than a 32inch 16:9 hdtv.

wrong, a 1920x1080 monitor is not wider than a 1920x1200 monitor.
It's actually shorter, not wider.
If you have 2 monitors with the same size screen, IE diagonal measurement, one in 16:9 and one in 16:10, the 16:10 will be taller but the 16:9 will be wider. It's not complicated. Resolution will be the same horizontally, but inches will not.no
