Someone needs to tell your government that a high minimum wage creates unemployment and hurts low skilled and young workers.

This isn't an economics thread, but the minimum wage is high because the cost of living is high. They balance each other out.

The cost of living is high because minimum wage is high.

Enjoy your 100 dollar games and 16/hr minimum wage.

@NailedGR

If that was the case, then what's the difference between forward and rear? Lets pretend that left ear hears it 1 second sooner (obviously made up values). How does that get interpreted into front/back? I bet if i placed a person in a symmetrical sound room, blind folded them and immobilized their head, they would not be able to hear if a sound was in front or back. I think the moment you move your head just a tiny bit, then the positioning kicks in because then your brain can compare the angles/timings and all and figure out the position.

There are a ton of specials on how we hear on the science channel and national geographic.

There are videos on youtube that, if you are wearing headphones completely trick your brain into thinking sounds are coming from very specific places.

^ this is probably the best one I came across, I listened to it probably once a day for a week due to the novelty of it.

Duh.. if i'd only look at the other tabs of the link i provided the other day:
http://www.dolby.com/us/en/consumer/technology/home-theater/dolby-headphone.html

In the How it works tab, it explains how Dolby Headphone interpreds DD or DDPL II - read this.. this is good stuff

@NailedGR

I remember thinking that before :) And i agree that it would make sense that these small speakers would be crappy. I'm not really sure how humans interpret front/back (i think its probably shape of ears or more likely the fact that our head can rotate on all axes thus pint point the sond). I think its interesting how they can reproduce the end result quite realistically.

polishpaul

Its because the sound hits our ears at slightly different times that allows us to pinpoint the direction.

[QUOTE="jonleeprice"] LOL fast and furious did NOT start the craze of modding cars be it japanese or any other make ricers/boy racers what ever you wish to call them have been around for years and years and actually influenced the films..........

jonleeprice

Where did I say it didn't exist before the films? I said the films started the craze, i.e. made putting lights under the car popular.

But it didnt, maybe in the us or where ever you are from but in the uk it has been going for years and years before the films, tbh since the films came out it has died of alot due to massive insurance hikes for young drivers. I remember going to the motor show in earls court , hummmm must have been around 20 years ago as i was with my parents, and they had a Max Power area with fully "pimped" cars under car neons massive ice installs, crazy colours.

I guess your youngish and have just never noticed it before.

I'm 45.

There weren't even japanese performance cars worth driving until the late 90's.

I'm still not convinced...

If i'm not getting a digital signal.. how am i really getting surround sound? Even if my sound card can emulate SS, the output is still to a stereo jack. So although my sound card is 7.1, it only works if:

  1. I plug in each speaker to its respective jack.
  2. I hook it up digitally with a fiber optic cable.

How would one get stereo headphones to do surround sound with a sound card? Is it a special feature (software?)

Has anyone here used the PX5 or equivalent? Is it just me or do they sound really amazing (at least when it comes to positioning)...

polishpaul

one good speaker on each side in headphones >>>> lots of crappy little surround sound speakers inside headphones.

Think about it, you have 2 ears yet you can very accurately detect where sound is coming from. You can do this with stereo headphones also Surround sound only has a legitmate use when it is a legit speaker setup.

OK.. FOLKS... First, please stop quoting.It junks up the hose. Especially if there are multiple quotes within. Second of all, where did the $450 tag come in to play? What exactly costs this much? Not sure what you were comparing there pricewise... As for me, yes i care about quality, but not over the top. I was very impressed with the PX5's sans mike. So a step up for me. But i have nothing else to compare them with. @ferret-gamer: Did you hear a buzz or a hiss? I noticed that the headphones i've tried had a constant gentle hiss... as if the 'world was on'. Once sound comes in its not noticeable. So what's the verdict?? Which ones are the best?polishpaul

[QUOTE="ShadowsDemon"][QUOTE="guynamedbilly"] And what's your minimum wage? Here, it's 7.25.guynamedbilly
It's about $6.20 here I think, but I never got paid that low.
