I have always bought EVGA's Nvidia cards. And before that it was 3dfx which is Nvidia if I remember right. Nvidia seems to always have decent mid-range cards with easy driver support.

roulettethedog

i dont think 3dfx were anything to do with nvidia.

Nvidia bought out 3dfx. So yea you are right.

A lot of the 3dfx technology went to nvidia, so it is understandable to see them as part of nvidia. Hell even SLI has the same name (it's a totally different way of doing multiple graphics cards though), and their headquarters were really close too.

Neither, because spending $100+ on a mobo in the hope that Piledriver works out and AMD prices a worthwhile FX chip in your range is moderately insane (that said, the Gigabyte makes more sense for Crossfire -- the Asus's PCIe 2.0 slots only run at x16/x4, while the Gigabyte is x16/x8/x4). At least wait until you're ready to order your GPU, and even then you're probably going to be better off with a new GPU than buying another 5830.

ionusX

while i endorse other opinions id like to point out that i can find pretty nice used deals on a 2nd 5830's or better (ill take my chances) and i thank you also for pointing out the x16/x4 and x16/x8/x4 difference i failed to notice. id also like to point out that piledriver will be a while off so staying in my current cpu will probably not be set in stone unless in fact next gen console ports turn out to be a joke and yeah only way would be up. i have no problem buying less budgeted parts, but i want to make it worth my while and get use out of it.. not drop 350 bucks to play a game @ 60fps unlike some folks. i also dont want the world. i just want to play what i am currently playing better. new games that i do want probably wont exceed what im playing anyway

so thank you ill be getting the gigabyte board remember dude i bought a 5830 basically @ launch.. back then i was called insane as well.

16/4 isn't that huge of a bottleneck, I think it really only shows up at 6970/570 crossfire/sli. I don't really recall, the last time I read anything on the subject was a while ago.

really now, how general is "Does my 4850 bottleneck an i5-2500k?" straight forward question either you know or don't.

ossama224

that's exactly my point, you don't even know why your question is worthless. the equivalent would be like asking on a 4x4 enthusiast forum "how long will it take my f-150 4x4 get to 100 mph?" or "Is my suspension holding my engine in my truck back?"

In what conditions? while offroading? While towing? with cargo in the bed?

So what situation are you thinking of?

Web browsing? Looking up porn? e-mail? gaming? posting stupid questions on the forums?

So what he did was guess which question you were actually asking which was "Will my 4850 bottleneck my performance in games?" and the answer to that is yes.

Next time you want a good answer, ask a good question.

Okay, what kinds of forums are these?

And i wasn't referring to his answer, i was referring to all of his pointless trolling that you overlooked.

Hardware forums on a gaming website, his guess was probably the most logical to draw.

I don't see any trolling? Trolling is purposely misleading people and purposely going off-topic, which I don't really see any of, as what he said was technically correct given the information he had.

Quadro does not help video editing. It helps 3D & filter effect rendering. Unless your transcoding using a program that utilizes CUDA . But, most mid to high end Geforce cards have multiple the amount of CUDA cores than the best Quadro card.. And as long as the Geforce card has equal or better amount of memory along with bandwidth and more cuda cores then a Geforce card will be generally better.

04dcarraher

That isn't necessarily true. It's all about how they write their software, there may be a function that they have that uses something that only the quadro has support for.

At what point did I turn this into a blog post? Your post did not sound like a joke, but if it was then sorry for what I said. I just posted my situation, and wanted advice on what exactly to do. LordsLoss

Do you see the emoticon? What do you think that is there for?

- This isn't a System Wars post

- I've posted in the PC section for a reason

So I was at my local EB Games today. I went to exchange my XBOX360 for a PS3 since all my friends play FIFA12 on PS3.

I started talking to the guy there and he said we wouldn't see a PS4 until late 2014. The thing is he said, that right now the PS3 is only pushed to 70% from it's maximum performance. Most games, he said, don't push the PS3 past the 50% mark and some go to 60%-70%.

So I started wondering, could this be true?

Could games not push the hardware as hard as it would go? Same as most games don't push PC Hardware?

Is this why the graphics on PS3 are lower compared to PC?

Thoughts?

PS: off-topic, but does anybody know if it's possible to chat with PS3 friends on Windows?

FelipeInside

Since this guy is working retail we can safely assume he has no clue about what he is talking.

Well, I'm downloading the 30 day trial now, so we can see how this goes. Nailed, maybe some people were not gifted with having a family to help pay for everything, and seeing how she is still in high school, she is not free of her parental grasp. I came from a wealthy family and can afford to help her on her career path, so shut up.

LordsLoss

You asked for a critique of the situation when you decided this was a blog.

Also I was joking around, of course your girlfriend wants you to buy her stuff, that's how girlfriend work.

Oh please don't tell me you work and contribute on what the rest of the world uses, because if you do we are all f*cked.

ossama224

Why is that? His was a pretty typical response of someone who works in IT. User asks a question, but it is pretty clear they don't understand what they are asking so he answered the question that you probably meant to ask instead of explaining to you that your question was actually pretty worthless.

Honestly, your OP was not very clear and just about as general as is possible.
