Just wondering if it is possible that my CPU is now TOO powerful for my GPU...I currently have a TERRIBLE ATI Radeon HD 4290 (on board) (also i just ordered a 6870) and was wondering if it is possible that my CPU overclocked to 4.1 ghz has become too powerful for this card. Everything is running stable and at good temps seeing how i just tested for the past 12 hours. But when i went into WoW i noticed that the game was running much better but it almost made it laggty and i was wondering if that had anything to do with my GPU?Starbucks732

no the clocks of your cpu are fine and when you get your 6870 you will a noticible improvement...

[QUOTE="fishing666"]so i tried using my oc genie button on my msi motherboard and this is what it suggested. safe or no? swehunt

Why not doing it manually to be sure? Be a good boy/girl and refuse the button, OC like a champ instead! (thru bios) :P

I recomend OC'ing in a way that you know every parameter and variable, with a button press you really don't know what your doing and it could potentially harm your PC.

^ i agree with this also, btw have you stress tested it??

[QUOTE="Nick3306"]I dont see a need for water cooling when a heatsink like the hyper 212+ should be good for your overclocking needs.Nick3306

i saw the need for it being my Cpu needed 1.32V just for 4.2 with HT/Turbo :P

I'm just curios, what do you do that requires you i7 to be at 4.2 GHz?

gaming but i also do like to O'c, my gpu is the last thing i need to Add to my loop before i decide to overclock that as well. Also i have had so many Air cooled Rigs i became tired and bored of air cooling so i went to the next best thing Watercooling.

I like the rig posted above. I'd choose an EVGA card over PNY and go with a cheaper power supply. Nothing wrong with Corsair but it does seem to be a bit much for what you get. I'd recommend this Kingwin instead.

ChubbyGuy40

Meh i say Corsair/Thermaltake tough power series or Enermax

I would go with air, water is nice and can do the job better, unless noise is an issues, i would go with air

James161324

true but it also depends on the volts needed for your oc some need more then others, but air cooling is fine depending on the OC your trying to get to but for 4.0+ depending on what volts your cpu desires watercooling is a must only if you are running high volts but then again watercooling isn't for the weak hearted :p
