[QUOTE="Neoyamaneko"][QUOTE="LJS9502_basic"]Topic called for a numeric value. How many times......please be more specific. It's ironic that you pick on grammar mistakes.;)

LJS9502_basic

Did you think your parents saying, "How many times......" was literal, too?

They never used that phrase...

So you're the one!

Irony isn't too well defined, especially when we get into literary terms. Then there's three types of irony. And the examples you used for irony are coincidences, just thought I'd point that out. soldier-dark

Actually, yes they are, and I already explained why. And the "Dead End" example is a quasi-popular example of cosmic irony.

[QUOTE="jointed"][QUOTE="Neoyamaneko"][QUOTE="jointed"]Explain how that classifies as irony please.LJS9502_basic

Which case?

Both your examples.

Case #1: Situational irony. They called it "The Phantom", a supernatural creature known for being immaterial, and the product never materialized on store shelves.

Case #2 : Cosmic irony. Having a fatal wreck in a place where it can be used as a term for the end of your life.

They get very little crime in Oregon. I imagine this is the first time the Bomb Squad has had work in that berg for like.....ever. And it's probably not even their 1st job....probably all really firefighters or something.

In the words of Rick Moranis in Club Paradise, "We better score by Tuesday, or those scrags are gonna start to look pretty good." Put em on the backburner. There's gonna come a time when you are drunk and need to have a quick hit one night stand and all the girl needs is 2 legs, 2 breasts, and a heartbeat.

Far too many people keep mistaking coincidence or meeting a similar fate for irony.

Infinium Labs making a game system called "The Phantom" only for it to become Vaporware.....that's irony.

Being fired from a job exactly a year after being hired.....not irony.

Someone having a fatal car wreck near a "Dead End" sign....that's irony.

The "Irony" achievement in Bioshock.....not irony.

And they have to be exclusive to the game, which leaves out games like Madden, Saints Row, etc.

Tatsunoko vs. Capcom - Across the Border. This song is just plain awesome.

Parasite Eve

Mega Man 2

Double Dragon (NES)

[QUOTE="jointed"]I completely fail to see how loosing weight is so hard for some people. I'm in perfect weight and I'm not even trying. I'll have to go out of my way to gain weight. To answer the TC, I don't think that it's OK to make fun of people because they weigh too much or too little...but people who complain about thei fatness I have no sympathy for.Funky_Llama
It depends on metabolism. It's not the same for everyone.

There were commercials in the 40s for supplements to *gain* weight. Metabolism doesn't have as much to do with it as obese people would want you to believe. A good deal of why people are overweight is because of the lifestyle they lead, but they don't want to hear that.
