Really nice to hear this in the middle of a frantic gaming industry that has developers that are rather focusing on profit than quality and satisfaction of the gamers who made them famous in the first place.
Team ICO was always a group of perfectionists and they really put a lot into their games, making sure they're the absolute best. A big shame we don't see many developers like these anymore; many gaming developers are too focused the "We gotta kill CoD" concept and by trying to make Hollywood-action wannabe games. I'm just sick of the shooters and sick of the action.
What I like about Team ICO is how they do something different every time. It's what makes all of their games special. I could even wait until 2013 for this game; if they're going to spend this much time to put in the extra effort to make sure this is a stellar title, then by all means do so. Hopefully they take their time and hopefully everyone's patient on this.
I'm looking forward to this title and it looks like it can be a good game provided Square Enix and Crystal Dy execute this carefully and efficiently. Thing is, Tomb Raider is a game where the player can climb their way tombs and find artifacts and treasures, not go through a bunch of action-Hollywood type sequences.
Sure, the action part can work well but I hope it doesn't become the core of the game. Look at what happened with Ace Combat: Assault Horizon; the Dogfighter Mode took away from all of the challenge and it becomes repetitive and boring fast.
I just hope the developers don't go overboard with how "good" or "hot" Lara is supposed to look; this is supposed to reveal the grittiness and the hardships in Lara's past, after all. I'll still be keeping an eye on this title, but I'll be pretty skeptical on how they'll pace the plot.
I find them okay and enjoyable. Some of my first PS2 games were Midnight Club 1 and Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2. Midnight Club was an open-world kind of racer and Need for Speed was a linear racing game. I liked them both.
